¹But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

¹Sina räägi aga seda, mis on kohane tervele õpetusele!

²That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

²Vanad mehed olgu kained, väärikad, mõõdukad, terved usus, armastuses, kannatlikkuses.

³The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

³Niisamuti käitugu vanad naised pühalikult: ärgu olgu keelepeksjad, ärgu orjaku liigselt veini, vaid õpetagu head,

⁴That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

⁴et nad suudaksid mõistlikult juhatada noori naisi armastama mehi ja lapsi.

⁵To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

⁵Nad peavad olema mõõdukad, puhta meelega, virgad majatalituses, head, alistunud oma meestele, et Jumala sõna ei teotataks.

⁶Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

⁶Niisamuti manitse nooremaid mehi olema mõõdukad igas suhtes,

⁷In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

⁷näidates iseennast heade tegude eeskujuna ja pakkudes rikkumatut, väärikat õpetust,

⁸Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

⁸tervet vastuvaidlematut sõna, et vastane häbeneks, kui tal pole meist rääkida midagi halba.

⁹Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

⁹Orjad alistugu oma peremeestele kõiges, olgu nende meele järgi, ärgu rääkigu vastu,

¹⁰Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

¹⁰ärgu näpaku, vaid osutagu kõigiti ustavust, et nad ehiksid igati Jumala, meie Päästja õpetust.

¹¹For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

¹¹Jah, Jumala arm on ilmunud päästvana kõigile inimestele

¹²Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

¹²ja kasvatab meid, et me, öeldes lahti jumalakartmatusest ja ilmalikest himudest, elaksime praegusel ajal mõõdukalt ja õiglaselt ja jumalakartlikult,

¹³Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

¹³oodates õndsa lootuse täitumist ning suure Jumala ja meie Päästja Jeesuse Kristuse kirkuse ilmumist.

¹⁴Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

¹⁴Tema on loovutanud iseenda meie eest, et meid lunastada kõigest ülekohtust ja puhastada endale pärisrahvaks, innukaks headele tegudele.

¹⁵These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

¹⁵Seda räägi ja manitse ning veena nõudlikult! Ükski ärgu alahinnaku sind!
