1For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
1Me tiedämme, että vaikka tämä meidän maallinen telttamajamme puretaankin, Jumalalla on taivaassa meitä varten ikuinen asunto, joka ei ole ihmiskätten työtä.
2For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
2Täällä ollessamme me huokailemme ja kaipaamme päästä pukeutumaan taivaalliseen asuumme,
3If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
3sillä sitten kun olemme pukeutuneet siihen, emme jää alastomiksi.
4For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
4Me, jotka vielä asumme tässä majassamme, huokailemme ahdistuneina. Emme haluaisi riisuutua vaan pukeutua uuteen asuun, niin että elämä kätkisi sisäänsä sen, mikä on kuolevaista.
5Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
5Juuri tähän Jumala on valmistanut meidät, ja vakuudeksi hän on antanut meille Hengen.
6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
6Olemme siis aina turvallisella mielellä, vaikka tiedämmekin, että niin kauan kuin tämä ruumis on kotimme, olemme poissa Herran luota.
7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
7Mehän elämme uskon varassa, emme näkemisen.
8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
8Mutta mielemme on turvallinen, vaikka haluaisimmekin muuttaa pois ruumiistamme, kotiin Herran luo.
9Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
9Siksi myös pyrimme noudattamaan hänen mieltään, olimmepa jo perillä hänen luonaan tai vielä sieltä poissa.
10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
10Meidän kaikkien on tultava Kristuksen tuomioistuimen eteen, jotta kukin saisi sen mukaan, mitä ajallisessa elämässään on tehnyt, hyvää tai pahaa.
11Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
11Kun siis tiedämme, mitä Herran pelko on, me koetamme saavuttaa ihmisten luottamuksen. Jumala kyllä näkee, millaisia me olemme, ja toivon teidänkin sisimmässänne näkevän sen.
12For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
12Emme me ryhdy taas suosittelemaan itseämme teille. Haluamme vain antaa teille aihetta olla ylpeitä meistä, niin että pystytte vastaamaan niille, jotka kerskuvat sillä, mikä näkyy ulospäin, eivätkä piittaa siitä, mitä on sydämessä.
13For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.
13Jos olemmekin olleet suunniltamme, se on tapahtunut Jumalan tähden. Jos taas esiinnymme hillitysti, teemme niin teidän tähtenne,
14For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
14sillä Kristuksen rakkaus pakottaa meitä. Me näet päättelemme näin: Kun yksi on kuollut kaikkien puolesta, niin kaikki ovat kuolleet.
15And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
15Ja hän on kuollut kaikkien puolesta, jotta ne, jotka elävät, eivät enää eläisi itselleen vaan hänelle, joka on kuollut ja noussut kuolleista heidän tähtensä.
16Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
16Niinpä emme enää arvioi ketään pelkästään inhimilliseltä kannalta. Vaikka olisimmekin ennen tunteneet Kristuksen pelkästään inhimilliseltä kannalta, emme enää tunne.
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
17Jokainen, joka on Kristuksessa, on siis uusi luomus. Vanha on kadonnut, uusi on tullut tilalle!
18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
18Kaiken on saanut aikaan Jumala, joka Kristuksen välityksellä on tehnyt meidän kanssamme sovinnon ja uskonut meille tämän sovituksen viran.
19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
19Jumala itse teki Kristuksessa sovinnon maailman kanssa eikä lukenut ihmisille viaksi heidän rikkomuksiaan; meille hän uskoi sovituksen sanan.
20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
20Me olemme siis Kristuksen lähettiläitä, ja Jumala puhuu teille meidän kauttamme. Pyydämme Kristuksen puolesta: suostukaa sovintoon Jumalan kanssa.
21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
21Kristukseen, joka oli puhdas synnistä, Jumala siirsi kaikki meidän syntimme, jotta me hänessä saisimme Jumalan vanhurskauden.
