¹Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

¹Tämän tähden, te pyhät veljet, te, jotka olette saaneet taivaasta kutsun, kiinnittäkää katseenne Jeesukseen, joka on tunnustuksemme apostoli ja ylipappi.

²Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

²Hän on herransa luottamuksen arvoinen, niin kuin Mooses oli "kaikissa hänen huoneensa asioissa",

³For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

³mutta hänet on katsottu suuremman kunnian arvoiseksi, yhtä paljon suuremman kuin rakentajan kunnia on rakennuksen kunniaa suurempi.

⁴For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

⁴Jokainen talo on jonkun rakentama, mutta Jumala on rakentanut kaiken.

⁵And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

⁵Mooses oli kyllä uskottu "kaikissa hänen huoneensa asioissa", mutta silti vain palvelija, elävä todiste siitä, mitä Jumala oli myöhemmin puhuva.

⁶But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

⁶Kristus sen sijaan on Poika, jonka haltuun on uskottu Jumalan koko rakennus. Tämä rakennus olemme me, kunhan loppuun saakka säilytämme rohkeutemme ja luottavaisin ja iloisin mielin tuomme julki toivomme.

⁷Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

⁷Sen tähden, niin kuin Pyhä Henki sanoo: -- Jos te tänä päivänä kuulette hänen äänensä,

⁸Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

⁸älkää paaduttako sydäntänne niin kuin silloin, kun nousitte kapinaan, kun koettelitte minua autiomaassa.

⁹When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

⁹Siellä isänne panivat minut koetteelle -- ja saivat neljäkymmentä vuotta kokea, mitä heille tein.

¹⁰Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

¹⁰Minä vihastuin heidän sukupolveensa ja sanoin: "Aina he sydämessään kulkevat harhaan." He eivät tahtoneet seurata minun teitäni,

¹¹So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

¹¹ja niin minä vihassani vannoin: "Ikinä he eivät pääse minun lepopaikkaani."

¹²Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

¹²Varokaa siis, veljet, ettei kukaan teistä ole sydämessään paha ja epäuskoinen ja näin luovu elävästä Jumalasta.

¹³But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹³Rohkaiskaa toinen toistanne joka päivä, niin kauan kuin tuo sana "tänä päivänä" on voimassa, ettei kukaan teistä lankeaisi synnin viettelyksiin ja paatuisi.

¹⁴For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

¹⁴Mehän olemme osalliset Kristuksesta, kun vain loppuun asti pidämme kiinni siitä todellisuudesta, jonka yhteyteen jo alussa olemme päässeet.

¹⁵While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

¹⁵Kirjoituksissa siis sanotaan: -- Jos te tänä päivänä kuulette hänen äänensä, älkää paaduttako sydäntänne niin kuin silloin, kun nousitte kapinaan.

¹⁶For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

¹⁶Ketkä tekivät näin: kuulivat mutta nousivat kapinaan? Kaikki ne, jotka Mooseksen johtamina olivat lähteneet pois Egyptistä.

¹⁷But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

¹⁷Keille Jumala oli vihoissaan neljäkymmentä vuotta? Niille, jotka lankesivat syntiin ja joiden ruumiit sitten jäivät autiomaahan.

¹⁸And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

¹⁸Keille hän vannoi, etteivät he pääse hänen lepopaikkaansa? Niille, jotka eivät totelleet.

¹⁹So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
