¹Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

¹Sen tähden et voi mitenkään puolustautua, ihmisparka, sinä joka tuomitset muita, kuka sitten oletkin. Tuomitessasi toisen julistat tuomion myös itsellesi, koska sinä, toisen tuomitsija, teet itse samoja tekoja.

²But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

²Me tiedämme, että Jumala on oikeassa tuomitessaan ne, jotka tekevät tällaista.

³And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

³Kuvitteletko sinä välttäväsi Jumalan tuomion, kun teet itse sellaista, mistä tuomitset muita?

⁴Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

⁴Halveksitko sinä Jumalan suurta hyvyyttä, kärsivällisyyttä ja pitkämielisyyttä? Etkö ymmärrä, että Jumalan hyvyys johtaa sinut kääntymiseen?

⁵But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁵Mutta sinä olet kova etkä sisimmässäsi tahdo kääntyä. Näin kartutat vihaa, ja se kohtaa sinut vihan päivänä, jolloin Jumalan oikeudenmukainen tuomio tulee julki.

⁶Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

⁶Silloin Jumala maksaa jokaiselle hänen tekojensa mukaan.

⁷To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

⁷Niille, jotka uupumatta hyvää tehden etsivät kirkkautta, kunniaa ja katoamattomuutta, hän antaa ikuisen elämän,

⁸But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

⁸mutta niitä, jotka ovat itsekkäitä ja tottelevat totuuden sijasta vääryyttä, kohtaa ankara viha.

⁹Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

⁹Tuska ja ahdistus tulee jokaisen osaksi, joka tekee pahaa, ensin juutalaisen, sitten myös kreikkalaisen.

¹⁰But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

¹⁰Kirkkaus, kunnia ja rauha taas tulee jokaisen osaksi, joka tekee hyvää, ensin juutalaisen, sitten myös kreikkalaisen,

¹¹For there is no respect of persons with God.

¹¹sillä Jumala ei tee eroa ihmisten välillä.

¹²For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

¹²Ne, jotka ovat tehneet syntiä lakia tuntematta, myös tuhoutuvat laista riippumatta. Ne taas, jotka ovat lain tuntien tehneet syntiä, myös tuomitaan lain nojalla.

¹³(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

¹³Ei Jumala hyväksy vanhurskaiksi niitä, jotka vain kuulevat lain sanoja, vaan vanhurskaiksi julistetaan ne, jotka myös noudattavat lakia.

¹⁴For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

¹⁴Pakanakansatkin, joilla ei ole lakia, saattavat luonnostaan tehdä, mitä laki vaatii. Silloin pakanat, vaikkei heillä lakia olekaan, ovat itse itselleen laki.

¹⁵Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

¹⁵Näin he osoittavat, että lain vaatimus on kirjoitettu heidän sydämeensä. Siitä todistaa heidän omatuntonsakin, kun heidän ajatuksensa syyttävät tai myös puolustavat heitä.

¹⁶In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

¹⁶Tämä tulee näkyviin sinä päivänä, jona Jumala minun julistamani evankeliumin mukaisesti tuo ihmisten sisimmätkin salaisuudet Kristuksen Jeesuksen tuomittaviksi.

¹⁷Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

¹⁷Kuinka siis on? Sinä sanot itseäsi juutalaiseksi, sinä luotat lakiin ja ylpeilet Jumalastasi.

¹⁸And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

¹⁸Laista sinä opit tuntemaan hänen tahtonsa ja erottamaan sen, mikä on tärkeää.

¹⁹And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

¹⁹Sinä uskot olevasi sokeiden opastaja ja pimeydessä elävien valo,

²⁰An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

²⁰ymmärtämättömien kasvattaja ja kokemattomien opettaja, kun sinulla on tieto ja totuus hallussasi lakiin kirjoitettuna.

²¹Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

²¹Kun siis opetat muita, etkö opetakaan itseäsi? Varastatko itse, vaikka julistat, ettei saa varastaa?

²²Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

²²Teetkö itse aviorikoksen, vaikka kiellät muita tekemästä? Anastatko itsellesi temppelien aarteita, vaikka inhoat epäjumalia?

²³Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

²³Kuinka sinä, joka ylpeilet laista, häpäiset Jumalaa rikkomalla lakia?

²⁴For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

²⁴On kirjoitettu: "Teidän vuoksenne pakanakansat pilkkaavat Jumalan nimeä."

²⁵For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

²⁵Ympärileikkaus on kyllä hyödyksi, jos noudatat lakia. Mutta jos olet lainrikkoja, ympärileikkauksesi on mitätön.

²⁶Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

²⁶Jos ympärileikkaamaton noudattaa lain säännöksiä, eikö häntä silloin tule pitää ympärileikattuna?

²⁷And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

²⁷Ulkonaisesti ympärileikkaamaton, joka noudattaa lain käskyjä, on tuomitseva sinut, joka lain kirjaimesta ja ympärileikkauksesta huolimatta rikot lakia.

²⁸For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

²⁸Oikea juutalainen ei ole se, joka on juutalainen ulkonaisesti, eikä oikea ympärileikkaus ole se, joka on ulkonaisesti näkyvänä ruumiissa.

²⁹But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

²⁹Oikea juutalainen on se, joka on juutalainen sisimmässään, ja oikea ympärileikkaus on sydämen ympärileikkaus, jota ei saa aikaan laki, vaan Henki. Tällainen juutalainen saa kiitoksen Jumalalta, ei ihmisiltä.
