¹And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

¹Und Rehabeam zog gen Sichem; denn ganz Israel war gen Sichem gekommen, um ihn zum König zu machen.

²And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)

²Als aber Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, solches hörte, da er noch in Ägypten war (denn dahin war er vor dem König Salomo geflohen), kehrte er aus Ägypten zurück.

³That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

³Und man sandte hin und ließ ihn rufen. Da kamen Jerobeam und die ganze Gemeinde Israel und redeten mit Rehabeam und sprachen:

⁴Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

⁴Dein Vater hat unser Joch zu hart gemacht; so mache du nun den harten Dienst deines Vaters und das schwere Joch, welches er uns aufgelegt hat, leichter, so wollen wir dir untertänig sein!

⁵And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

⁵Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Geht hin für drei Tage, alsdann kommt wieder zu mir! Und das Volk ging hin.

⁶And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

⁶Da hielt der König Rehabeam einen Rat mit den Ältesten, die vor seinem Vater Salomo gestanden, als er noch lebte, und sprach: Wie ratet ihr, daß wir diesem Volk antworten sollen?

⁷And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

⁷Sie sprachen zu ihm: Wirst du heute diesem Volk einen Gefallen tun und ihm zu Willen sein und sie erhören und ihm gute Worte geben, so werden sie dir dienen dein Leben lang!

⁸But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

⁸Aber er verließ den Rat der Ältesten, den sie ihm gegeben hatten, und hielt Rat mit den Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren, die vor ihm standen.

⁹And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?

⁹Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was ratet ihr, daß wir diesem Volk antworten, welches zu mir gesagt und gesprochen hat: Mache das Joch leichter, welches dein Vater auf uns gelegt hat?

¹⁰And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

¹⁰Da sprachen zu ihm die Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren: Du sollst dem Volk, das zu dir gesagt hat: Dein Vater hat unser Joch zu schwer gemacht, du aber mache es uns leichter, dem sollst du so antworten: «Mein kleiner Finger ist dicker als meines Vaters Lenden!

¹¹And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

¹¹Und nun, hat mein Vater ein schweres Joch auf euch geladen, so will ich euch noch mehr aufladen! Hat mein Vater euch mit Geißeln gezüchtigt, so will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen!»

¹²So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

¹²Als nun Jerobeam samt dem ganzen Volk am dritten Tage zu Rehabeam kam, wie der König gesagt hatte: «Kommt am dritten Tag zu mir!»

¹³And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;

¹³da gab der König dem Volk eine harte Antwort und verließ den Rat, welchen ihm die Ältesten gegeben hatten,

¹⁴And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

¹⁴und redete mit ihnen nach dem Rat der Jungen und sprach: Mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln gezüchtigt, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen!

¹⁵Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

¹⁵Also willfahrte der König dem Volke nicht; denn es ward so vom HERRN gefügt, auf daß er sein Wort erfülle, welches der HERR durch Achija von Silo zu Jerobeam, dem Sohne Nebats, geredet hatte.

¹⁶So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

¹⁶Als nun ganz Israel sah, daß der König ihnen kein Gehör schenkte, antwortete das Volk dem König und sprach: Was haben wir für Anteil an David? Wir haben nichts zu erben von dem Sohne Isais! Israel, auf zu deinen Hütten! Und du, David, sieh zu deinem Haus!

¹⁷But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

¹⁷Also ging Israel in seine Hütten, und Rehabeam regierte nur über die Kinder Israel, die in den Städten Judas wohnten.

¹⁸Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

¹⁸Als aber der König Rehabeam den Fronmeister Adoram hinsandte, bewarf ihn ganz Israel mit Steinen; der König Rehabeam aber sputete sich und stieg auf seinen Wagen, um nach Jerusalem zu fliehen.

¹⁹So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

¹⁹Also fiel Israel ab vom Hause Davids bis auf diesen Tag.

²⁰And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

²⁰Als nun ganz Israel hörte, daß Jerobeam wiedergekommen sei, sandten sie hin und beriefen ihn in die Volksversammlung und machten ihn zum König über ganz Israel, und niemand folgte dem Hause Davids als allein der Stamm Juda.

²¹And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

²¹Als aber Rehabeam nach Jerusalem kam, versammelte er das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin, etwa 180000 junge Männer, um wider das Haus Israel zu streiten und das Königtum wieder an Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos, zu bringen.

²²But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

²²Aber das Wort Gottes erging an Semaja, den Mann Gottes, also:

²³Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

²³Sage zu Rehabeam, dem Sohne Salomos, dem König Judas, und zum Hause Juda und zu Benjamin und dem übrigen Volk und sprich:

²⁴Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

²⁴So spricht der HERR: Ihr sollt nicht hinaufziehen, um wider eure Brüder, die Kinder Israel, zu streiten! Jedermann gehe wieder heim; denn solches ist von mir geschehen! Und sie folgten dem Worte des HERRN und kehrten um, wie der HERR gesagt hatte.

²⁵Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

²⁵Jerobeam aber baute Sichem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim und wohnte darin und zog aus von dort und baute Pnuel.

²⁶And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

²⁶Jerobeam aber gedachte in seinem Herzen: Das Königreich wird nun wieder dem Hause Davids zufallen!

²⁷If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

²⁷Wenn dieses Volk hinaufgehen soll, um im Hause des HERRN zu Jerusalem zu opfern, so wird sich das Herz dieses Volkes zu ihrem Herrn, zu Rehabeam, dem König von Juda, wenden, und sie werden mich töten und sich wieder Rehabeam, dem König von Juda, zuwenden!

²⁸Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

²⁸Darum hielt der König einen Rat und machte zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zum Volk: Es ist zu viel für euch, nach Jerusalem hinaufzugehen! Siehe, das sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus Ägyptenland geführt haben!

²⁹And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

²⁹Und er stellte das eine zu Bethel auf und tat das andere nach Dan.

³⁰And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

³⁰Aber diese Tat ward Israel zur Sünde; und das Volk lief zu dem einen Kalbe bis gen Dan.

³¹And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

³¹Er machte auch ein Höhenheiligtum und bestellte aus dem ganzen Volk Leute zu Priestern, die nicht von den Kindern Levi waren.

³²And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

³²Ferner setzte Jerobeam ein Fest an, am fünfzehnten Tag des achten Monats, wie das Fest in Juda, und opferte auf dem Altar. Also tat er in Bethel, indem er den Kälbern opferte, die er gemacht hatte, und er bestellte zu Bethel die Priester der Höhen, die er gemacht hatte.

³³So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.

³³Und er opferte auf dem Altar, den er in Bethel gemacht hatte, am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, des Monats, welchen er aus eigenem Herzen erdacht hatte; und er veranstaltete den Kindern Israel ein Fest und opferte auf dem Altar und räucherte.
