¹These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

¹Dies sind die Worte, die Mose zu ganz Israel redete diesseits des Jordan in der Wüste, auf der Ebene gegenüber von Suph, zwischen Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazerot und Disahab:

²(There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)

²elf Tagereisen weit vom Horeb, am Wege vom Gebirge Seir nach Kadesch-Barnea.

³And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;

³Und es geschah im vierzigsten Jahre, am ersten Tage des elften Monats, daß Mose mit den Kindern Israel redete, alles, wie ihm der HERR für sie geboten hatte;

⁴After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:

⁴nachdem er Sihon, den König der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon wohnte, geschlagen hatte, dazu Og, den König zu Basan, der zu Astarot und zu Edrei wohnte.

⁵On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

⁵Diesseits des Jordan, im Lande der Moabiter, fing Mose an, dieses Gesetz auszulegen, und er sprach:

⁶The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:

⁶Der HERR, unser Gott, redete zu uns am Berge Horeb und sprach: Ihr seid lange genug an diesem Berge gewesen!

⁷Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁷Wendet euch nun und ziehet weiter, daß ihr zu dem Gebirge der Amoriter kommet und zu allen ihren Nachbarn in der Ebene, auf den Bergen und in den Tälern, gegen Mittag und gegen das Gestade des Meeres, in das Land der Kanaaniter und zum Berge Libanon, bis an den großen Fluß, den Fluß Euphrat!

⁸Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

⁸Siehe, ich habe euch das Land, das vor euch liegt, gegeben; geht hinein und nehmt das Land ein, von dem der HERR euren Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen hat, daß er es ihnen und ihrem Samen nach ihnen geben wolle.

⁹And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:

⁹Da sagte ich zu euch zu jener Zeit und sprach: Ich kann euch nicht allein tragen;

¹⁰The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

¹⁰denn der HERR, euer Gott, hat euch gemehrt, und siehe, ihr seid heute wie die Sterne des Himmels an Menge.

¹¹(The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)

¹¹Der HERR, eurer Väter Gott, mache euch noch viel tausendmal zahlreicher als ihr seid, und segne euch, wie er euch versprochen hat!

¹²How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

¹²Wie kann ich aber allein eure Beschwerden, eure Klagen und eure Streitigkeiten tragen?

¹³Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.

¹³Schaffet euch weise, verständige und erfahrene Männer von euren Stämmen her, so will ich sie an eure Spitze stellen!

¹⁴And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.

¹⁴Da antwortetet ihr mir und sprachet: Das ist ein gutes Ding, davon du sagst, daß du es tun wollest!

¹⁵So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.

¹⁵Da nahm ich Häupter eurer Stämme, weise und erfahrene Männer, und setzte sie zu Oberhäuptern über euch, zu Obersten über tausend, über hundert, über fünfzig, über zehn, und zu Amtleuten für eure Stämme.

¹⁶And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

¹⁶Und ich gebot euren Richtern zu derselben Zeit und sprach: Verhöret eure Brüder und richtet recht zwischen den Brüdern und Fremdlingen;

¹⁷Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

¹⁷keine Person sollt ihr im Gericht ansehen, sondern ihr sollt den Kleinen hören wie den Großen und euch vor niemand scheuen; denn das Gericht ist Gottes. Wird euch aber eine Sache zu schwer sein, so lasset sie an mich gelangen, daß ich sie höre!

¹⁸And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

¹⁸So gebot ich euch zu jener Zeit alles, was ihr tun solltet.

¹⁹And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.

¹⁹Da zogen wir aus von Horeb und wanderten durch die große und schreckliche Wüste, die ihr auf dem Wege nach dem Hügelland der Amoriter gesehen habt, wie uns der HERR, unser Gott, geboten hatte, und kamen bis Kadesch-Barnea.

²⁰And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.

²⁰Da sprach ich zu euch: Ihr seid an das Gebirge der Amoriter gekommen, das uns der HERR, unser Gott, geben wird.

²¹Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.

²¹Siehe, der HERR, dein Gott, hat dir das Land, das vor dir liegt, gegeben; ziehe hinauf und nimm es ein, wie der HERR, deiner Väter Gott, dir versprochen hat; fürchte dich nicht und erschrick nicht!

²²And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.

²²Da kamet ihr alle herbei zu mir und sprachet: Laßt uns Männer vor uns hersenden, die uns das Land erkundigen und uns Bericht bringen über den Weg, den wir ziehen, und die Städte, darein wir kommen sollen.

²³And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:

²³Das gefiel mir wohl, und ich nahm von euch zwölf Männer, aus jedem Stamme einen.

²⁴And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.

²⁴Die wandten sich und bestiegen das Gebirge und kamen bis in das Tal Eskol und kundschafteten es aus

²⁵And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.

²⁵und nahmen von den Früchten des Landes mit sich und brachten sie herab zu uns und berichteten uns und sprachen: Das Land ist gut, das der HERR, unser Gott, uns gibt!

²⁶Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:

²⁶Aber ihr wolltet nicht hinaufziehen, sondern lehntet euch gegen das Wort des HERRN, eures Gottes, auf,

²⁷And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

²⁷und ihr murrtet in euren Hütten und spracht: Der HERR hat uns aus Haß aus Ägypten geführt, daß er uns in die Hände der Amoriter gebe, uns zu vertilgen.

²⁸Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.

²⁸Wohin sollen wir ziehen? Unsere Brüder haben unser Herz verzagt gemacht, indem sie sagten: Das Volk ist größer und höher gewachsen als wir, die Städte sind groß und bis an den Himmel befestigt; dazu haben wir Enakskinder daselbst gesehen!

²⁹Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.

²⁹Ich aber sprach zu euch: Entsetzet euch nicht und fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen;

³⁰The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

³⁰denn der HERR, euer Gott, zieht vor euch her und wird für euch streiten, wie er mit euch vor euren Augen in Ägypten getan hat

³¹And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.

³¹und in der Wüste, wo du gesehen hast, wie dich der HERR, dein Gott, getragen hat, wie ein Mann seinen Sohn trägt, auf allen Wegen, die ihr zurückgelegt habt, bis ihr an diesen Ort gekommen seid.

³²Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,

³²Aber in dieser Sache wolltet ihr dem HERRN, eurem Gott, nicht vertrauen,

³³Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.

³³der doch vor euch herging auf dem Wege, euch die Lagerstätten auszusuchen, bei Nacht im Feuer, daß er euch den Weg zeigte, darauf ihr gehen solltet, bei Tag in einer Wolke.

³⁴And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,

³⁴Als aber der HERR die Stimme eurer Worte hörte, ward er zornig und schwur und sprach:

³⁵Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers.

³⁵Keiner von den Männern dieses bösen Geschlechts soll das gute Land sehen, das ich ihren Vätern zu geben geschworen habe!

³⁶Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.

³⁶Nur Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, soll es sehen; und ich will ihm und seinen Kindern das Land geben, das er betreten hat, weil er dem HERRN völlig nachgefolgt ist.

³⁷Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.

³⁷Auch über mich ward der HERR zornig um euretwillen und sprach: Du sollst auch nicht hineinkommen!

³⁸But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³⁸Aber Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der vor dir steht, der soll hineinkommen; denselben stärke, denn er soll Israel dieses Land zum Erbe austeilen.

³⁹Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

³⁹Und eure Kinder, von denen ihr sagtet, daß sie zum Raub werden müßten, und eure Söhne, die heute noch nicht wissen, was gut und böse ist, die sollen hineinkommen; denselben will ich es geben, und sie sollen es einnehmen.

⁴⁰But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

⁴⁰Ihr aber, wendet euch und ziehet in die Wüste auf dem Weg zum Schilfmeer!

⁴¹Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.

⁴¹Da antwortetet ihr und sprachet zu mir: Wir haben wider den HERRN gesündigt, wir wollen hinaufziehen und streiten, ganz wie uns der HERR, unser Gott, geboten hat! Und ihr alle gürtetet eure Kriegswaffen um und hieltet es für leicht, auf den Berg zu steigen.

⁴²And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them. Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

⁴²Aber der HERR sprach zu mir: Sag ihnen: Ihr sollt nicht hinaufziehen und nicht streiten; denn ich bin nicht unter euch; daß ihr nicht vor euren Feinden geschlagen werdet!

⁴³So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

⁴³Das sagte ich euch; aber ihr gehorchtet nicht, sondern lehntet euch auf gegen das Gebot des HERRN und waret vermessen und zoget auf das Gebirge hinauf.

⁴⁴And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

⁴⁴Da rückten die Amoriter aus, die auf demselben Gebirge wohnten, euch entgegen, und jagten euch, wie die Bienen tun, und schlugen euch zu Seir bis gen Horma.

⁴⁵And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.

⁴⁵Da kehrtet ihr wieder um und weintet vor dem HERRN; aber der HERR wollte eure Stimme nicht hören und neigte seine Ohren nicht zu euch.

⁴⁶So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.

⁴⁶Also bliebet ihr in Kadesch eine lange Zeit, so lange, wie ihr dort bleiben mußtet!
