¹Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.

¹Darnach wandten wir uns und brachen auf nach der Wüste auf dem Wege zum Schilfmeer, wie der HERR zu mir gesagt hatte, und umzogen das Gebirge Seir eine lange Zeit.

²And the LORD spake unto me, saying,

²Und der HERR sprach zu mir also:

³Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

³Ihr habt nun lange genug dieses Gebirge umzogen; wendet euch gegen Mitternacht!

⁴And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:

⁴Und gebiete dem Volk und sprich: Ihr werdet durch das Gebiet eurer Brüder, der Kinder Esau ziehen, welche in Seir wohnen, und sie werden sich vor euch fürchten, aber nehmt euch wohl in acht,

⁵Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.

⁵daß ihr sie nicht bekrieget; denn ich werde euch von ihrem Lande nicht einen Fußbreit geben; denn ich habe das Gebirge Seir dem Esau erblich zu besitzen gegeben.

⁶Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.

⁶Ihr sollt die Speise, die ihr esset, um Geld von ihnen kaufen, und ihr sollt das Wasser, das ihr trinket, um Geld von ihnen kaufen;

⁷For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

⁷denn der HERR, dein Gott, hat dich in allen Werken deiner Hände gesegnet. Er hat achtgehabt auf deine Reisen durch diese große Wüste; und der HERR, dein Gott, ist diese vierzig Jahre bei dir gewesen, so daß dir nichts gemangelt hat.

⁸And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

⁸Als wir dann aber an unsern Brüdern, den Kindern Esau, die in Seir wohnen, vorüberzogen, auf dem Wege durch die Ebene von Elat und von Ezjon-Geber, wandten wir uns und betraten den Weg nach der Steppe Moab.

⁹And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.

⁹Da sprach der HERR zu mir: Du sollst die Moabiter nicht befehden, noch zum Streite reizen; denn ich will dir ihr Land nicht zu besitzen geben; denn ich habe Ar den Kindern Lot zu besitzen gegeben.

¹⁰The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;

¹⁰(Die Emiter haben vor Zeiten darin gewohnt; das war ein großes, starkes und hochgewachsenes Volk wie die Enakiter;

¹¹Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims.

¹¹sie wurden auch zu den Rephaitern gerechnet wie die Enakiter, und die Moabiter hießen sie Emiter.

¹²The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.

¹²In Seir aber wohnten vor Zeiten die Horiter; aber die Kinder Esau vertrieben und vertilgten sie vor sich her und wohnten an ihrer Statt, wie Israel dem Lande seiner Besitzung tat, das ihm der HERR gab.)

¹³Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

¹³So macht euch nun auf und zieht über den Bach Sared! Und wir zogen über den Bach Sared.

¹⁴And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.

¹⁴Die Zeit unserer Wanderung, von Kadesch-Barnea an bis zur Überschreitung des Baches Sared, betrug achtunddreißig Jahre, bis alle Kriegsleute aus dem Lager aufgerieben waren, wie der HERR ihnen geschworen hatte.

¹⁵For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.

¹⁵Die Hand des HERRN war auch wider sie gewesen; daß sie im Lande umkamen, bis sie völlig aufgerieben waren.

¹⁶So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

¹⁶Als nun alle diese Kriegsleute aufgerieben und gestorben waren inmitten des Volkes,

¹⁷That the LORD spake unto me, saying,

¹⁷da redete der HERR zu mir und sprach:

¹⁸Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:

¹⁸Du kommst heute an der Grenze der Moabiter bei Ar vorüber

¹⁹And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.

¹⁹und wirst nahe zu den Kindern Ammon kommen; die sollst du nicht befehden, noch bekriegen, denn ich will dir von dem Lande der Kinder Ammon nichts zu besitzen geben; denn ich habe es den Kindern Lot zu besitzen gegeben.

²⁰(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;

²⁰(Auch dieses gilt für ein Land der Rephaiter, und es haben auch vor Zeiten Rephaiter darin gewohnt; und die Ammoniter hießen sie Samsummiter.

²¹A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:

²¹Das war ein großes, starkes und hochgewachsenes Volk wie die Enakiter. Und der HERR vertilgte sie vor ihnen, und ließ die Ammoniter dieselben vertreiben, daß sie daselbst an ihrer Statt wohnten,

²²As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:

²²wie er getan hat mit den Kindern Esau, die in Seir wohnen, als er die Horiter vor ihnen vertilgte und sie ihr Land einnehmen ließ, daß sie daselbst an ihrer Statt wohnen bis auf diesen Tag.

²³And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

²³Und wie es den Avvitern erging, die in Dörfern bis gen Gaza wohnten; die Kaphtoriter, welche von Kaphtor ausgezogen waren, vertilgten sie und wohnten daselbst an ihrer Statt.)

²⁴Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

²⁴So macht euch nun auf, zieht aus und überschreitet den Bach Arnon! Siehe, ich habe Sihon, den König zu Hesbon, den Amoriter, samt seinem Land in deine Hand gegeben: hebe an einzunehmen und fange den Krieg gegen ihn an!

²⁵This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

²⁵Von diesem heutigen Tage an will ich Furcht und Schrecken vor dir auf das Angesicht der Völker unter dem ganzen Himmel legen, daß, wenn sie von dir hören, sie erzittern und sich vor dir ängstigen sollen!

²⁶And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

²⁶Da sandte ich Boten aus der östlichen Wüste zu Sihon, dem König zu Hesbon, mit einer Friedensbotschaft und ließ ihm sagen:

²⁷Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

²⁷Ich will durch dein Land ziehen und will dabei der Straße folgen; ich will weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken abweichen.

²⁸Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;

²⁸Du sollst mir Speise um Geld verkaufen, daß ich esse; und du sollst mir Wasser um Geld geben, daß ich trinke. Ich will nur zu Fuß hindurchziehen,

²⁹(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.

²⁹wie mir die Kinder Esau getan haben, die zu Seir wohnen, und die Moabiter, die zu Ar wohnen; bis ich über den Jordan ins Land komme, das der HERR, unser Gott, uns geben wird.

³⁰But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.

³⁰Aber Sihon, der König zu Hesbon, wollte uns nicht durch sein Land ziehen lassen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, hatte seinen Geist hartnäckig gemacht und sein Herz verbittert, daß er ihn in deine Hand gebe, wie es heute der Fall ist.

³¹And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.

³¹Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich habe angefangen, Sihon samt seinem Lande vor dir hinzugeben; hebe an sein Land einzunehmen und es zu besitzen!

³²Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.

³²Und Sihon zog aus, uns entgegen, er und sein ganzes Volk, zum Streit bei Jahza.

³³And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.

³³Aber der HERR, unser Gott, gab ihn vor uns hin, daß wir ihn samt seinem Sohne und seinem ganzen Volke schlugen.

³⁴And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:

³⁴Und wir gewannen zu der Zeit alle seine Städte, Männer, Weiber und Kinder, und ließen niemand übrigbleiben.

³⁵Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.

³⁵Nur das Vieh raubten wir für uns, und die Beute von den Städten, die wir gewannen.

³⁶From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:

³⁶Von Aroer an, die am Ufer des Arnon liegt, und von der Stadt im Tale bis gen Gilead war uns keine Stadt zu fest; der HERR, unser Gott, gab alles vor uns hin.

³⁷Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbade us.

³⁷Aber zu dem Lande der Kinder Ammon, zu allem, was am Jabbok liegt, kamst du nicht, auch nicht zu den Städten auf dem Gebirge, noch zu irgend etwas von dem, was uns der HERR, unser Gott, verboten hatte.
