¹The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

¹Weissagung wider Damaskus: Siehe, Damaskus wird keine Stadt mehr sein, sondern eine verfallene Ruine werden.

²The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

²Verlassen sind die Städte Aroer, den Herden werden sie zuteil, die lagern sich daselbst ungestört.

³The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

³Aus ist's mit der Wehrhaftigkeit Ephraims, und die Damascenerherrschaft ist zu Ende; was aber noch übrigbleibt von Syrien, wird der Herrlichkeit der Kinder Israels gleich sein, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen.

⁴And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

⁴Zu jener Zeit wird die Herrlichkeit Jakobs gering sein und das Fett seines Fleisches hinschwinden.

⁵And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

⁵Es wird gehen, wie wenn der Schnitter Halme faßt und sein Arm Ähren abmäht, ja, wie wenn einer im Tale Rephaim Ähren liest.

⁶Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.

⁶Es wird nur eine Nachlese von ihnen übrigbleiben, wie beim Abschlagen der Oliven: zwei oder drei Beeren im Wipfel des Baumes bleiben hängen, höchstens vier oder fünf in den Zweigen des Fruchtbaums, spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels.

⁷At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

⁷Alsdann wird der Mensch nach seinem Schöpfer schauen und seine Augen auf den Heiligen Israels richten.

⁸And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

⁸Und er wird nicht mehr nach den Altären sehen, welche ein Werk seiner Hände sind, und wird nicht mehr nach dem blicken, was seine Finger gemacht haben, nach den Ascheren und Sonnensäulen.

⁹In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

⁹Zu jener Zeit werden ihre festen Städte sein wie die verlassenen Waldeshöhen und Berggipfel, welche man einst vor den Kindern Israel verließ; zu Ruinen sollen sie werden!

¹⁰Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

¹⁰Denn du hast vergessen des Gottes deines Heils und nicht gedacht an den Felsen deiner Stärke; darum hast du dir liebliche Pflanzungen angelegt und sie mit fremden Reben besetzt.

¹¹In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

¹¹Am Tage, da du sie pflanztest, hast du sie eingezäunt, und frühe wirst du deine Saat sprießen sehen; die Ernte aber wird dahin sein am Tage der Krankheit und des unheilbaren Schmerzes.

¹²Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

¹²Wehe, ein Toben vieler Völker, welche toben wie das Meer, und ein Rauschen von Völkern, welche wie mächtige Wasser rauschen!

¹³The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

¹³Die Völker rauschen gleich den großen Wassern; wenn er sie aber schilt, so fliehen sie weit davon und werden dahingejagt wie Spreu auf den Bergen vor dem Wind und wie wirbelnder Staub vor dem Sturm.

¹⁴And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

¹⁴Siehe, zur Abendzeit ist Schrecken da; ehe es aber Morgen wird, sind sie nicht mehr vorhanden! Das ist das Teil derer, die uns berauben, und das Los derer, die uns plündern.
