¹These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

¹Solches habe ich zu euch geredet, damit ihr keinen Anstoß nehmet.

²They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

²Sie werden euch aus der Synagoge ausschließen; es kommt sogar die Stunde, wo jeder, der euch tötet, meinen wird, Gott einen Dienst zu erweisen.

³And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

³Und solches werden sie euch tun, weil sie weder den Vater noch mich kennen.

⁴But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

⁴Ich aber habe euch solches gesagt, damit, wenn die Stunde kommt, ihr daran denket, daß ich es euch gesagt habe. Solches aber habe ich euch nicht von Anfang an gesagt, weil ich bei euch war.

⁵But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

⁵Nun aber gehe ich hin zu dem, der mich gesandt hat, und niemand unter euch fragt mich: Wohin gehst du?

⁶But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁶Sondern weil ich euch solches gesagt habe, ist euer Herz voll Trauer.

⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁷Aber ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Es ist gut für euch, daß ich hingehe; denn wenn ich nicht hingehe, so kommt der Beistand nicht zu euch. Wenn ich aber hingegangen bin, will ich ihn zu euch senden.

⁸And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

⁸Und wenn jener kommt, wird er die Welt überzeugen von Sünde und von Gerechtigkeit und von Gericht;

⁹Of sin, because they believe not on me;

⁹von Sünde, weil sie nicht an mich glauben;

¹⁰Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

¹⁰von Gerechtigkeit aber, weil ich zum Vater gehe und ihr mich hinfort nicht mehr sehet;

¹¹Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹¹von Gericht, weil der Fürst dieser Welt gerichtet ist.

¹²I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

¹²Noch vieles hätte ich euch zu sagen; aber ihr könnt es jetzt nicht ertragen.

¹³Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

¹³Wenn aber jener kommt, der Geist der Wahrheit, wird er euch in die ganze Wahrheit leiten; denn er wird nicht von sich selbst reden, sondern was er hören wird, das wird er reden, und was zukünftig ist, wird er euch verkündigen.

¹⁴He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁴Derselbe wird mich verherrlichen; denn von dem Meinigen wird er es nehmen und euch verkündigen.

¹⁵All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁵Alles, was der Vater hat, ist mein; darum habe ich gesagt, daß er es von dem Meinigen nehmen und euch verkündigen wird.

¹⁶A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

¹⁶In kurzem werdet ihr mich nicht mehr sehen, und wiederum in kurzem werdet ihr mich sehen, denn ich gehe zum Vater.

¹⁷Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁷Da sprachen etliche seiner Jünger zueinander: Was bedeutet das, daß er sagt: In kurzem werdet ihr mich nicht mehr sehen, und wiederum in kurzem werdet ihr mich sehen, und: Ich gehe zum Vater?

¹⁸They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

¹⁸Sie fragten nämlich: Was bedeutet das, daß er sagt: In kurzem? Wir wissen nicht, was er redet!

¹⁹Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

¹⁹Jesus merkte, daß sie ihn fragen wollten, und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr befraget einander darüber, daß ich gesagt habe: In kurzem sehet ihr mich nicht mehr, und wiederum in kurzem werdet ihr mich sehen?

²⁰Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²⁰Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, ihr werdet weinen und wehklagen, aber die Welt wird sich freuen, ihr aber werdet trauern; doch eure Traurigkeit soll in Freude verwandelt werden.

²¹A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

²¹Wenn eine Frau gebiert, so hat sie Traurigkeit, weil ihre Stunde gekommen ist; wenn sie aber das Kind geboren hat, denkt sie nicht mehr an die Angst, um der Freude willen, daß ein Mensch zur Welt geboren ist.

²²And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

²²So habt auch ihr nun Traurigkeit; ich werde euch aber wiedersehen, und dann wird euer Herz sich freuen, und niemand wird eure Freude von euch nehmen.

²³And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

²³Und an jenem Tage werdet ihr mich gar nichts fragen. Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, was irgend ihr den Vater bitten werdet in meinem Namen, er wird es euch geben!

²⁴Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁴Bis jetzt habt ihr gar nichts in meinem Namen gebeten; bittet, so werdet ihr nehmen, auf daß eure Freude völlig werde!

²⁵These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

²⁵Solches habe ich euch in Gleichnissen gesagt; es kommt aber die Stunde, da ich nicht mehr in Gleichnissen zu euch reden, sondern euch offen vom Vater Kunde geben werde.

²⁶At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

²⁶An jenem Tage werdet ihr in meinem Namen bitten, und ich sage euch nicht, daß ich den Vater für euch bitten wolle;

²⁷For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁷denn der Vater selbst hat euch lieb, weil ihr mich liebet und glaubet, daß ich von Gott ausgegangen bin.

²⁸I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

²⁸Ich bin vom Vater ausgegangen und in die Welt gekommen; wiederum verlasse ich die Welt und gehe zum Vater.

²⁹His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

²⁹Da sagen seine Jünger: Siehe, jetzt redest du offen und brauchst kein Gleichnis!

³⁰Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³⁰Jetzt wissen wir, daß du alles weißt und nicht nötig hast, daß dich jemand frage; darum glauben wir, daß du von Gott ausgegangen bist!

³¹Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

³¹Jesus antwortete ihnen: Jetzt glaubet ihr?

³²Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³²Siehe, es kommt die Stunde, und sie ist schon da, wo ihr euch zerstreuen werdet, ein jeglicher in das Seine, und mich allein lasset; aber ich bin nicht allein, denn der Vater ist bei mir.

³³These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

³³Solches habe ich zu euch geredet, auf daß ihr in mir Frieden habet. In der Welt habt ihr Trübsal; aber seid getrost, ich habe die Welt überwunden!
