¹And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

¹Das ist es aber, was die Kinder Israel im Lande Kanaan geerbt haben, was Eleasar, der Priester, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns, und die obersten Väter der Stämme der Kinder Israel unter sie ausgeteilt haben,

²By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

²als sie es durch das Los unter sie teilten, wie der HERR durch Mose geboten hatte, es den neunundeinhalb Stämmen zu geben.

³For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

³Denn den zwei Stämmen und dem halben Stamm hatte Mose ihr Erbteil jenseits des Jordan gegeben; den Leviten aber hatte er kein Erbteil unter ihnen gegeben.

⁴For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.

⁴Denn die Kinder Joseph bildeten zwei Stämme, Manasse und Ephraim. Darum gaben sie den Leviten keinen Teil am Landbesitz, sondern nur Städte, um darin zu wohnen, und ihre Weideplätze für ihr Vieh und ihre Güter.

⁵As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

⁵Wie der HERR dem Mose geboten hatte, also taten die Kinder Israel und teilten das Land.

⁶Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea.

⁶Da traten die Kinder Juda zu Josua in Gilgal, und Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, der Kenisiter, sprach zu ihm: Du weißt, was der HERR zu Mose, dem Mann Gottes, meinet und deinetwegen zu Kadesch-Barnea gesagt hat.

⁷Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.

⁷Ich war vierzig Jahre alt, als mich Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, von Kadesch-Barnea aussandte, das Land auszukundschaften, und ich brachte ihm Bericht, so wie es mir ums Herz war.

⁸Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

⁸Aber meine Brüder, die mit mir hinaufgezogen waren, machten dem Volk das Herz verzagt; ich aber folgte dem HERRN, meinem Gott, gänzlich nach.

⁹And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

⁹Da schwur mir Mose an demselben Tag und sprach: Das Land, darauf du mit deinem Fuß getreten bist, soll dein und deiner Kinder Erbteil sein ewiglich, weil du dem HERRN, meinem Gott, gänzlich nachgefolgt bist!

¹⁰And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

¹⁰Und nun siehe, der HERR hat mich leben lassen, wie er geredet hat. Und es sind nunmehr fünfundvierzig Jahre, seit der HERR solches zu Mose sagte, als Israel in der Wüste wandelte. Und nun siehe, ich bin heute fünfundachtzig Jahre alt

¹¹As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

¹¹und bin noch heute so stark, wie ich war an dem Tage, als mich Mose aussandte; wie meine Kraft damals war, also ist sie auch jetzt, zu streiten und aus und einzuziehen.

¹²Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

¹²Und nun, so gib mir dieses Gebirge, davon der HERR geredet hat an jenem Tage; denn du hörtest an demselben Tage, daß die Enakiter darauf wohnen und daß es große und feste Städte hat; vielleicht wird der HERR mit mir sein, daß ich sie vertreibe, wie der HERR geredet hat!

¹³And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

¹³Da segnete ihn Josua und gab also Kaleb, dem Sohn Jephunnes, Hebron zum Erbteil.

¹⁴Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

¹⁴Daher ward Hebron das Erbteil Kalebs, des Sohnes Jephunnes, des Kenisiters, bis auf diesen Tag, weil er dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, gänzlich nachgefolgt war.

¹⁵And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

¹⁵Aber Hebron hieß vor Zeiten Kirjat-Arba. Der war der größte Mann unter den Enakitern. Und das Land ruhte aus vom Kriege.
