¹Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

¹Die Kinder Ruben aber und die Kinder Gad hatten sehr viel Vieh und sahen das Land Jaeser und das Land Gilead, und siehe, es war ein geeignetes Land für ihr Vieh.

²The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

²Da kamen die Kinder Gad und die Kinder Ruben und redeten mit Mose und Eleasar, dem Priester, und mit den Hauptleuten der Gemeinde und sprachen:

³Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

³Atarot, Dibon, Jaeser, Nimra, Hesbon, Eleale, Sebam,

⁴Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

⁴Nebo und Beon, das Land, welches der HERR vor der Gemeinde Israel geschlagen hat, ist geeignet für das Vieh; nun haben wir, deine Knechte, viel Vieh.

⁵Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

⁵Und sie sprachen: Haben wir Gnade vor dir gefunden, so gib dieses Land deinen Knechten zu eigen und führe uns nicht über den Jordan.

⁶And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

⁶Und Mose sprach zu den Kindern Gad und zu den Kindern Ruben: Sollen eure Brüder in den Streit ziehen, und ihr wollt hier bleiben?

⁷And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?

⁷Warum macht ihr doch das Herz der Kinder Israel abwendig, daß sie nicht hinüberziehen in das Land, das ihnen der HERR geben will?

⁸Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

⁸Also taten auch eure Väter, als ich sie von Kadesch-Barnea aussandte, das Land zu beschauen;

⁹For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

⁹als sie bis zum Tal Eskol hinaufgekommen waren und das Land sahen, machten sie das Herz der Kinder Israel abwendig, daß sie nicht in das Land ziehen wollten, das ihnen der HERR gegeben hatte.

¹⁰And the LORD's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,

¹⁰Und der Zorn des HERRN entbrannte zu derselben Zeit, und er schwur und sprach:

¹¹Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

¹¹Fürwahr, die Männer, die aus Ägypten gezogen sind, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber sollen das Land nicht sehen, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen habe, weil sie mir nicht gänzlich nachgefolgt sind;

¹²Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

¹²ausgenommen Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, der Kenisiter, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns; denn sie sind dem HERRN gänzlich nachgefolgt.

¹³And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

¹³Also entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN über Israel, und er ließ sie in der Wüste hin und herziehen vierzig Jahre lang, bis das ganze Geschlecht, das vor dem HERRN übel gehandelt hatte, aufgerieben war.

¹⁴And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

¹⁴Und siehe, ihr seid an eurer Väter Statt aufgekommen, eine Brut von Sündern, den Zorn und Grimm des HERRN wider Israel noch größer zu machen.

¹⁵For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

¹⁵Denn wenn ihr euch von seiner Nachfolge abwendet, so wird er auch sie noch länger in der Wüste lassen, und ihr werdet dieses ganze Volk verderben!

¹⁶And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

¹⁶Da traten sie zu ihm und sprachen: Wir wollen nur Schafhürden hier bauen für unser Vieh und Städte für unsere Kinder.

¹⁷But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

¹⁷Wir aber wollen uns rüsten und eilends voranziehen vor den Kindern Israel, bis wir sie an ihren Ort bringen; unsre Kinder sollen in den verschlossenen Städten bleiben um der Einwohner des Landes willen.

¹⁸We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

¹⁸Wir wollen nicht heimkehren, bis die Kinder Israel das Land eingenommen haben, ein jeder sein Erbteil.

¹⁹For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

¹⁹Denn wir wollen nicht mit ihnen erben jenseits des Jordan und weiterhin, sondern unser Erbe soll uns diesseits des Jordan, gegen Morgen zufallen.

²⁰And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,

²⁰Mose sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ihr das tun wollt, daß ihr euch vor dem HERRN zum Streit rüstet,

²¹And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,

²¹so zieht, wer unter euch gerüstet ist, über den Jordan vor dem HERRN, bis er seine Feinde vor seinem Angesicht austreibe.

²²And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

²²Wenn dann das Land vor dem HERRN unterworfen ist, dann erst sollt ihr umkehren; so werdet ihr vor dem HERRN und vor Israel unschuldig sein, und dieses Land soll euer Besitztum werden vor dem HERRN.

²³But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

²³Wenn ihr aber nicht also tut, siehe, so habt ihr euch an dem HERRN versündigt und werdet erfahren, was für eine Strafe euch treffen wird!

²⁴Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

²⁴So baut euch nun Städte für eure Kinder und Hürden für eure Schafe, und tut, was ihr versprochen habt.

²⁵And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.

²⁵Die Kinder Gad und die Kinder Ruben sprachen zu Mose: Deine Knechte wollen tun, wie mein Herr geboten hat.

²⁶Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:

²⁶Unsre Kinder, unsre Weiber, unsre Habe und all unser Vieh sollen hier in den Städten Gileads bleiben;

²⁷But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith.

²⁷wir aber, deine Knechte, alle die zum Heereszug gerüstet sind, wollen in den Streit ziehen vor dem HERRN, wie mein Herr geredet hat.

²⁸So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:

²⁸Da gebot Mose Eleasar, dem Priester, und Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, und den Familienhäuptern der Stämme der Kinder Israel;

²⁹And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:

²⁹und Mose sprach zu ihnen: Wenn die Kinder Gad und die Kinder Ruben mit euch über den Jordan ziehen, alle, die zum Streit gerüstet sind vor dem HERRN, und das Land vor euch eingenommen ist, so gebt ihnen das Land Gilead zu eigen.

³⁰But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

³⁰Ziehen sie aber nicht gerüstet mit euch, so sollen sie unter euch im Lande Kanaan erben.

³¹And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

³¹Da antworteten die Kinder Gad und die Kinder Ruben und sprachen: Wie der HERR zu deinen Knechten geredet hat, also wollen wir tun!

³²We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.

³²Wir wollen gerüstet in das Land Kanaan ziehen vor dem HERRN und unser Erbe diesseits des Jordan besitzen.

³³And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

³³Also gab Mose den Kindern Gad und den Kindern Ruben und dem halben Stamm Manasse, des Sohnes Josephs, das Königreich Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, und das Königreich Ogs, des Königs von Basan, das Land samt den Städten im ganzen Gebiet ringsum.

³⁴And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

³⁴Und die Kinder Gad bauten Dibon,

³⁵And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,

³⁵Atarot und Aroer, und Atarot-Sophan, Jaeser und Jogbeha,

³⁶And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.

³⁶auch Beth-Nimra, und Beth-Haran, befestigte Städte und Schafhürden.

³⁷And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

³⁷Die Kinder Ruben aber bauten Hesbon,

³⁸And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.

³⁸Eleale und Kirjataim; desgleichen Nebo und Baal-Meon, deren Namen verändert wurden, und Sibma, und sie gaben den Städten, die sie erbauten, andere Namen.

³⁹And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.

³⁹Und die Kinder Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, zogen nach Gilead und gewannen es und vertrieben die Amoriter, die darin wohnten.

⁴⁰And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

⁴⁰Da gab Mose dem Machir, dem Sohne Manasses, Gilead; und er wohnte darin.

⁴¹And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.

⁴¹Jair aber, der Sohn Manasses, ging hin und gewann ihre Dörfer und hieß sie Jairs-Dörfer.

⁴²And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

⁴²Nobach ging auch hin und gewann Kenat samt ihren Dörfern und hieß sie nach seinem Namen Nobach.
