¹Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

¹Darum bist du nicht zu entschuldigen, o Mensch, wer du seist, der du richtest! Denn indem du den andern richtest, verdammst du dich selbst; denn du verübst ja dasselbe, was du richtest!

²But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

²Wir wissen aber, daß das Gericht Gottes dem wahren Sachverhalt entsprechend über die ergeht, welche solches verüben.

³And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

³Oder denkst du, o Mensch, der du die richtest, welche solches verüben, und doch das Gleiche tust, daß du dem Gerichte Gottes entrinnen werdest?

⁴Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

⁴Oder verachtest du den Reichtum seiner Güte, Geduld und Langmut, ohne zu erkennen, daß dich Gottes Güte zur Buße leitet?

⁵But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁵Aber nach deinem verstockten und unbußfertigen Herzen häufst du dir selbst den Zorn auf den Tag des Zorns und der Offenbarung des gerechten Gerichtes Gottes,

⁶Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

⁶welcher einem jeglichen vergelten wird nach seinen Werken;

⁷To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

⁷denen nämlich, die mit Ausdauer im Wirken des Guten Herrlichkeit, Ehre und Unsterblichkeit erstreben, ewiges Leben;

⁸But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

⁸den Streitsüchtigen aber, welche der Wahrheit ungehorsam sind, dagegen der Ungerechtigkeit gehorchen, Zorn und Grimm!

⁹Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

⁹Trübsal und Angst über jede Menschenseele, die das Böse vollbringt, zuerst über den Juden, dann auch über den Griechen;

¹⁰But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

¹⁰Herrlichkeit aber und Ehre und Friede jedem, der das Gute wirkt, zuerst dem Juden, dann auch dem Griechen;

¹¹For there is no respect of persons with God.

¹¹denn es gibt kein Ansehen der Person bei Gott:

¹²For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

¹²Welche ohne Gesetz gesündigt haben, die werden auch ohne Gesetz verloren gehen; und welche unter dem Gesetz gesündigt haben, die werden durch das Gesetz verurteilt werden.

¹³(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

¹³Denn vor Gott sind nicht die gerecht, welche das Gesetz hören; sondern die, welche das Gesetz befolgen, sollen gerechtfertigt werden.

¹⁴For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

¹⁴Denn wenn die Heiden, die das Gesetz nicht haben, doch von Natur tun, was das Gesetz verlangt, so sind sie, die das Gesetz nicht haben, sich selbst ein Gesetz;

¹⁵Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

¹⁵da sie ja beweisen, daß des Gesetzes Werk in ihre Herzen geschrieben ist, was auch ihr Gewissen bezeugt, dazu ihre Überlegungen, welche sich untereinander verklagen oder entschuldigen.

¹⁶In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

¹⁶Das wird an dem Tage offenbar werden, da Gott das Verborgene der Menschen richten wird, laut meinem Evangelium, durch Jesus Christus.

¹⁷Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

¹⁷Wenn du dich aber einen Juden nennst und dich auf das Gesetz verlässest und dich Gottes rühmst,

¹⁸And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

¹⁸wenn du seinen Willen weißt und verschiedenartige Dinge zu unterscheiden verstehst, weil du aus dem Gesetz unterrichtet bist;

¹⁹And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

¹⁹wenn du dir zutraust, ein Leiter der Blinden, ein Licht derer zu sein, die in der Finsternis sind,

²⁰An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

²⁰ein Erzieher der Unverständigen, ein Lehrer der Unmündigen, der den Inbegriff der Erkenntnis und der Wahrheit im Gesetze hat:

²¹Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

²¹nun also, du lehrst andere, dich selbst aber lehrst du nicht? Du predigst, man solle nicht stehlen, und stiehlst selber?

²²Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

²²Du sagst, man solle nicht ehebrechen, und brichst selbst die Ehe? Du verabscheust die Götzen und begehst dabei Tempelraub?

²³Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

²³Du rühmst dich des Gesetzes und verunehrst doch Gott durch Übertretung des Gesetzes?

²⁴For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

²⁴wie geschrieben steht: «Der Name Gottes wird um euretwillen unter den Heiden gelästert.»

²⁵For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

²⁵Denn die Beschneidung hat nur Wert, wenn du das Gesetz hältst; bist du aber ein Übertreter des Gesetzes, so ist deine Beschneidung schon zur Unbeschnittenheit geworden.

²⁶Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

²⁶Wenn nun der Unbeschnittene die Forderungen des Gesetzes beobachtet, wird ihm nicht seine Unbeschnittenheit als Beschneidung angerechnet werden?

²⁷And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

²⁷Und wird nicht der von Natur Unbeschnittene, der das Gesetz erfüllt, dich richten, der du trotz Buchstabe und Beschneidung ein Übertreter des Gesetzes bist?

²⁸For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

²⁸Denn nicht der ist ein Jude, der es äußerlich ist; auch ist nicht das die Beschneidung, die äußerlich am Fleisch geschieht;

²⁹But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

²⁹sondern der ist ein Jude, der es innerlich ist, und das ist eine Beschneidung, die am Herzen, im Geiste, nicht dem Buchstaben nach vollzogen wird. Eines solchen Lob kommt nicht von Menschen, sondern von Gott.
