¹In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.

¹Pada tahun kedua belas pemerintahan Raja Ahas atas Yehuda, Hosea anak Ela menjadi raja Israel, dan ia memerintah di Samaria sembilan tahun lamanya.

²And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.

²Ia berdosa kepada TUHAN, tetapi dosanya tidak sebanyak dosa raja-raja Israel yang memerintah sebelumnya.

³Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.

³Ia diperangi dan ditaklukkan oleh Salmaneser raja Asyur, sehingga setiap tahun ia harus membayar upeti kepadanya.

⁴And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

⁴Tetapi pada suatu ketika, Hosea mengirim utusan kepada So raja Mesir untuk minta bantuannya. Lalu Hosea berhenti membayar upeti tahunan kepada Asyur. Ketika Salmaneser mengetahui tentang perbuatan Hosea itu, ia menangkap Hosea dan memasukkannya ke dalam penjara.

⁵Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

⁵Kemudian Salmaneser raja Asyur menyerang Israel dan mengepung Samaria. Pada tahun ketiga dari pengepungan itu,

⁶In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

⁶--yang merupakan tahun kesembilan pemerintahan Hosea--Salmaneser merebut Samaria. Lalu orang Israel diangkutnya sebagai tawanan ke Asyur. Sebagian dari mereka ditempatkannya di kota Halah, sebagian di dekat Sungai Habor di wilayah Gozan, dan sebagian lagi di kota-kota di negeri Madai.

⁷For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

⁷Samaria jatuh karena orang Israel berdosa kepada TUHAN, Allah mereka, yang telah menyelamatkan mereka dari raja Mesir, dan membawa mereka keluar dari negeri itu. Mereka menyembah ilah-ilah lain

⁸And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.

⁸dan mengikuti kebiasaan bangsa-bangsa yang telah diusir TUHAN pada waktu bangsa Israel maju memerangi bangsa-bangsa itu. Bangsa Israel menuruti adat istiadat yang ditetapkan oleh raja-raja Israel,

⁹And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

⁹dan melakukan hal-hal yang tidak diperkenankan oleh TUHAN, Allah mereka. Mereka mendirikan tempat-tempat penyembahan dewa di semua kota mereka, baik di kota kecil maupun di kota besar.

¹⁰And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:

¹⁰Di atas setiap bukit, dan di bawah setiap pohon yang rindang, mereka mendirikan tugu-tugu dan patung-patung Dewi Asyera.

¹¹And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger:

¹¹Mereka juga membakar dupa pada semua mezbah untuk dewa, seperti kebiasaan bangsa-bangsa yang telah diusir TUHAN dari negeri Kanaan. Mereka menyembah berhala, meskipun TUHAN telah melarangnya. Segala perbuatan mereka yang jahat membangkitkan kemarahan TUHAN.

¹²For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.

¹²(17:11)

¹³Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

¹³TUHAN mengirim utusan-utusan dan nabi-nabi-Nya kepada umat Israel dan Yehuda untuk menyampaikan peringatan ini: "Berhentilah berbuat jahat dan taatilah segala perintah dan hukum yang Kuberikan kepada leluhurmu dan kepadamu melalui para nabi, hamba-hamba-Ku itu."

¹⁴Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.

¹⁴Tetapi Israel dan Yehuda tidak mau mendengar. Mereka keras kepala seperti leluhur mereka yang tidak percaya kepada TUHAN, Allah mereka.

¹⁵And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.

¹⁵Israel dan Yehuda tidak mau mentaati perintah-perintah TUHAN dan tidak setia kepada perjanjian yang telah dibuat-Nya dengan leluhur mereka. Mereka tidak menghiraukan teguran-teguran-Nya, melainkan beribadat kepada berhala-berhala yang tak berguna, sehingga mereka sendiri pun menjadi tidak berguna. Mereka mengikuti teladan bangsa-bangsa di sekeliling mereka, meskipun TUHAN telah melarangnya.

¹⁶And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

¹⁶Mereka melanggar semua hukum TUHAN, Allah mereka, dan membuat dua sapi dari logam untuk disembah. Mereka membuat patung Dewi Asyera, menyembah bintang-bintang dan beribadat kepada Dewa Baal.

¹⁷And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁷Mereka mempersembahkan anak-anak mereka sebagai kurban bakaran kepada dewa. Mereka memakai ilmu gaib dan meminta petunjuk dari dukun-dukun yang dapat berhubungan dengan roh-roh. Mereka begitu giat melakukan hal-hal yang tidak menyenangkan hati TUHAN

¹⁸Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

¹⁸sehingga Ia marah sekali kepada mereka dan tidak lagi memperhatikan mereka. Ia membuang mereka dari tanah yang diberikan-Nya kepada mereka; yang tertinggal hanyalah kerajaan Yehuda.

¹⁹Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

¹⁹Orang-orang Yehuda pun tidak mentaati hukum-hukum TUHAN, Allah mereka. Mereka mengikuti kebiasaan-kebiasaan orang Israel,

²⁰And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

²⁰maka TUHAN tidak lagi mengakui seluruh umat Israel. Ia menghukum dan menyerahkan mereka kepada musuh-musuh mereka yang kejam. Ia tidak lagi memperhatikan mereka, melainkan membuang mereka dari tanah yang diberikan-Nya kepada mereka.

²¹For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.

²¹Setelah TUHAN memisahkan Israel dari Yehuda, orang Israel mengangkat Yerobeam anak Nebat menjadi raja mereka. Lalu Yerobeam membuat mereka meninggalkan TUHAN dan melakukan dosa-dosa yang besar.

²²For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;

²²Mereka mengikuti teladan Yerobeam dan tetap melakukan semua dosa yang diperbuatnya,

²³Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

²³sehingga akhirnya TUHAN tidak lagi memperhatikan mereka, melainkan membuang mereka dari tanah yang diberikan-Nya kepada mereka. Itu terjadi sesuai dengan peringatan yang diberikan TUHAN kepada mereka melalui hamba-hamba-Nya, para nabi. Demikianlah orang Israel dibawa ke pembuangan di Asyur, dan di situlah mereka tinggal sampai hari ini.

²⁴And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

²⁴Sebagai pengganti orang Israel yang telah diangkut ke pembuangan itu, raja Asyur menempatkan di kota-kota Samaria, orang-orang dari Babel, Kuta, Awa, Hamat, dan Sefarwaim. Orang-orang itu menduduki kota-kota itu dan menetap di situ.

²⁵And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which slew some of them.

²⁵Pada waktu mereka mula-mula tinggal di situ mereka tidak menghormati TUHAN; itu sebabnya TUHAN mendatangkan singa-singa untuk menerkam sebagian dari mereka.

²⁶Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.

²⁶Lalu orang memberitahukan kepada raja Asyur bahwa orang-orang yang ditempatkannya di kota-kota di Samaria tidak mengenal hukum-hukum dewa negeri itu. Itu sebabnya dewa itu mendatangkan singa untuk menerkam mereka.

²⁷Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.

²⁷Karena itu raja Asyur memerintahkan supaya seorang imam dari antara para tawanan yang telah dibuang ke Asyur, dikirim kembali ke Samaria. "Suruh dia pulang dan tinggal di situ supaya ia bisa mengajar orang-orang itu tentang hukum-hukum dewa negeri itu," kata raja.

²⁸Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

²⁸Maka seorang imam Israel, yang sudah diangkut dari Samaria ke Asyur, pulang dan tinggal di Betel. Di sana ia mengajar rakyat bagaimana seharusnya menyembah TUHAN.

²⁹Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

²⁹Tetapi orang-orang yang tinggal di Samaria itu tetap membuat berhala-berhala mereka sendiri dan menempatkannya di dalam kuil-kuil yang didirikan oleh orang Israel yang dahulu tinggal di kota itu. Setiap golongan membuat berhalanya sendiri di kota yang mereka diami:

³⁰And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

³⁰Orang Babel membuat patung Dewa Sukot-Benot, orang Kuta membuat patung Nergal, orang Hamat patung Asima,

³¹And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

³¹orang Awa patung Nibhas dan Tartak, dan orang Sefarwaim mempersembahkan anak-anak mereka sebagai kurban bakaran kepada Dewa Adramelekh dan Anamelekh.

³²So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

³²Selain menyembah dewa-dewa itu, mereka juga menyembah TUHAN. Mereka memilih dari antara mereka bermacam-macam orang untuk bertugas sebagai imam dan untuk mempersembahkan kurban di kuil-kuil berhala.

³³They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

³³Jadi, mereka menyembah TUHAN, tetapi juga menyembah dewa-dewa mereka sendiri, sesuai dengan adat istiadat negeri asal mereka.

³⁴Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

³⁴Sampai pada hari ini mereka masih menjalankan adat istiadat mereka. Mereka tidak beribadat kepada TUHAN dan tidak juga mentaati hukum-hukum dan perintah-perintah-Nya yang diberikan-Nya kepada keturunan Yakub, yang dinamakan-Nya juga Israel.

³⁵With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:

³⁵TUHAN sudah membuat perjanjian berikut ini dengan umat Israel, "Jangan beribadat kepada ilah-ilah lain; jangan sujud menyembah mereka atau melayani mereka, atau mempersembahkan kurban kepada mereka.

³⁶But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

³⁶Hormatilah Aku, TUHAN, yang telah membawa kamu keluar dari Mesir dengan kuasa yang besar; sembahlah Aku dan persembahkanlah kurban kepada-Ku.

³⁷And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.

³⁷Taatilah selalu hukum-hukum dan perintah-perintah yang sudah Kutulis untukmu. Jangan beribadat kepada ilah-ilah lain,

³⁸And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.

³⁸dan jangan melupakan perjanjian antara Aku dengan kamu.

³⁹But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

³⁹Taatilah Aku, TUHAN Allahmu, maka Aku akan melepaskan kamu dari musuh-musuhmu."

⁴⁰Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.

⁴⁰Tetapi penduduk Samaria itu tidak mau mendengar; mereka tetap berpegang pada adat istiadat mereka.

⁴¹So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

⁴¹Jadi, mereka menyembah TUHAN, tetapi juga menyembah berhala-berhala mereka. Sampai hari ini pun keturunan mereka masih melakukan hal itu.
