¹Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

¹Pada tahun ketiga pemerintahan Raja Hosea anak Ela atas Israel, Hizkia anak Ahas menjadi raja Yehuda.

²Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

²Pada waktu itu ia berumur 25 tahun dan ia memerintah di Yerusalem 29 tahun lamanya. Ibunya bernama Abia anak Zakharia.

³And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

³Hizkia melakukan yang menyenangkan hati TUHAN seperti Raja Daud leluhurnya.

⁴He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

⁴Ia menghancurkan tempat-tempat penyembahan dewa, dan merobohkan tugu-tugunya serta merusak patung-patung Dewi Asyera. Ia juga menghancurkan ular perunggu buatan Musa yang disebut Nehustan. Sebab, sampai pada waktu itu orang Israel masih membakar dupa untuk menghormati ular perunggu itu.

⁵He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

⁵Di antara semua raja Yehuda, baik yang sebelum maupun yang sesudah Hizkia, tidak ada yang seperti dia. Ia percaya kepada TUHAN, Allah Israel,

⁶For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

⁶dan setia kepada-Nya. Tidak pernah ia melawan TUHAN. Segala perintah TUHAN yang diberikan melalui Musa, ditaati oleh Hizkia dengan sungguh-sungguh.

⁷And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

⁷Itu sebabnya TUHAN tetap menolongnya sehingga ia berhasil dalam segala usahanya. Ia memberontak terhadap raja Asyur, dan tidak mau takluk kepadanya.

⁸He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

⁸Ia mengalahkan orang Filistin, dan merampoki tempat tinggal mereka, dari desa yang paling kecil sampai kota yang paling besar, termasuk Gaza dan wilayah di sekelilingnya.

⁹And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

⁹Pada tahun keempat pemerintahan Hizkia, yaitu tahun ketujuh pemerintahan Raja Hosea atas Israel, Salmaneser raja Asyur menyerang Israel dan mengepung Samaria.

¹⁰And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

¹⁰Setelah dikepung tiga tahun lamanya, Samaria jatuh. Itu terjadi pada tahun keenam pemerintahan Hizkia, dan tahun kesembilan pemerintahan Hosea.

¹¹And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

¹¹Kemudian raja Asyur mengangkut orang Israel sebagai tawanan ke Asyur; sebagian dari mereka ditempatkannya di kota Halah, sebagian di dekat Sungai Habor di wilayah Gozan, dan sebagian lagi di kota-kota di negeri Madai.

¹²Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

¹²Samaria jatuh karena orang Israel tidak taat kepada TUHAN, Allah mereka. Mereka mengingkari perjanjian yang dibuat TUHAN dengan mereka, dan mereka melanggar semua perintah Musa, hamba-Nya. Mereka tidak mau mendengar dan tidak mau menurut.

¹³Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

¹³Dalam tahun keempat belas pemerintahan Hizkia raja Yehuda, kota-kota Yehuda yang berbenteng diserang dan dikalahkan oleh Sanherib, raja Asyur.

¹⁴And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

¹⁴Maka kepada Sanherib yang berada di Lakhis, Hizkia mengirim berita ini, "Saya telah bersalah. Sebab itu, saya mohon sudilah Tuan menghentikan serangan terhadap kami. Semua tuntutan Tuan akan saya penuhi." Sanherib menjawab bahwa Hizkia harus mengirim kepadanya 10.000 kilogram perak, dan 1.000 kilogram emas.

¹⁵And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.

¹⁵Karena itu, semua perak yang ada di dalam Rumah TUHAN dan di dalam kas istana dikirim oleh Hizkia kepada Sanherib.

¹⁶At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

¹⁶Emas pada pintu-pintu Rumah TUHAN dan yang telah dipasang Hizkia sendiri pada ambang-ambang pintu, diambilnya dan dikirim juga kepada Sanherib.

¹⁷And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller's field.

¹⁷Tetapi raja Asyur itu mengirim dari Lakhis sebuah pasukan besar untuk menyerang Yerusalem. Pasukan itu dipimpin oleh tiga perwira tinggi yaitu seorang panglima, seorang juru minuman, dan seorang kepala pengawal raja. Setelah tiba di kota itu mereka mengambil tempat di ladang, yang disebut Ladang Penatu dekat selokan yang mengalirkan air dari kolam bagian atas.

¹⁸And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

¹⁸Lalu mereka berteriak memanggil Raja Hizkia. Maka tiga orang pegawai Hizkia keluar menemui mereka. Ketiga pegawai itu ialah Elyakim anak Hilkia kepala rumah tangga istana, Sebna sekretaris negara, dan Yoah anak Asaf sekretaris istana.

¹⁹And Rabshakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

¹⁹Salah seorang perwira Asyur itu berkata kepada mereka, "Sampaikanlah kepada Hizkia perkataan raja Asyur ini: 'Mengapa engkau merasa dirimu kuat?

²⁰Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

²⁰Engkau kira perkataan saja dapat menggantikan siasat dan kekuatan tentara? Siapakah yang kauandalkan, sehingga engkau berani melawan Asyur?

²¹Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

²¹Engkau memang mengharapkan bantuan Mesir, tetapi itu sama seperti memakai batang alang-alang untuk tongkat; nanti tongkat itu patah dan tanganmu tertusuk. Begitulah raja Mesir bagi semua orang yang berharap kepadanya.'"

²²But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

²²Selanjutnya perwira Asyur itu berkata, "Atau barangkali kamu berkata bahwa kamu berharap kepada TUHAN, Allahmu? Pada waktu Hizkia memerintahkan supaya orang Yehuda dan Yerusalem hanya beribadat di depan mezbah di Yerusalem, bukankah yang dimusnahkannya itu mezbah dan tempat-tempat penyembahan kepada TUHAN sendiri?

²³Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

²³Sekarang atas nama raja Asyur aku berani bertaruh bahwa kalau kamu diberi 2.000 ekor kuda, pasti kamu tidak akan punya orang sebanyak itu untuk menungganginya!

²⁴How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

²⁴Untuk melawan perwira kami yang paling rendah pun, kamu bukan tandingannya. Namun kamu mengharapkan juga Mesir mengirim bantuan kereta perang dan pasukan berkuda!

²⁵Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

²⁵Kamu mengira kami menyerang dan mengalahkan negerimu tanpa bantuan TUHAN? TUHAN sendirilah yang menyuruh kami menyerang dan menghancurkannya!"

²⁶Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

²⁶Lalu kata Elyakim, Sebna, dan Yoah kepada perwira itu, "Tuan, bicara saja dalam bahasa Aram dengan kami, kami mengerti. Jangan memakai bahasa Ibrani, nanti dimengerti rakyat di atas tembok kota itu."

²⁷But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

²⁷Sahut perwira itu, "Apakah kepada kamu dan rajamu saja aku diutus raja Asyur untuk menyampaikan semua ini? Tidak! Aku juga bicara kepada rakyat yang duduk di tembok itu, yang bersama dengan kamu akan makan kotorannya sendiri dan minum air seninya sendiri."

²⁸Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

²⁸Kemudian perwira itu berdiri dan berteriak dalam bahasa Ibrani, "Dengarkan apa yang dikatakan oleh raja Asyur:

²⁹Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

²⁹'Jangan mau ditipu Hizkia; ia tak bisa menyelamatkan kamu.

³⁰Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

³⁰Jangan dengarkan bujukannya untuk berharap kepada TUHAN. Jangan kira TUHAN akan menyelamatkan kamu atau mencegah tentara Asyur merebut kotamu.

³¹Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

³¹Jangan dengarkan Hizkia. Aku, raja Asyur menganjurkan supaya kamu keluar dari kota dan menyerah. Nanti kamu boleh makan buah anggur dari kebunmu sendiri, dan menikmati buah ara dari pohonmu sendiri, serta minum air dari sumurmu sendiri,

³²Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

³²sampai kamu kupindahkan ke suatu negeri yang mirip negerimu sendiri. Di sana ada kebun anggur yang menghasilkan anggur bagimu, dan ladang gandum yang menghasilkan tepung untuk makananmu. Di negeri itu ada banyak pohon zaitun, minyak zaitun dan madu. Kalau kamu menuruti apa yang kuanjurkan kepadamu, kamu akan hidup, tidak mati. Jangan dengarkan Hizkia! Dia hanya menipu kamu dengan berkata bahwa TUHAN akan menyelamatkan kamu.

³³Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

³³Pernahkah dewa bangsa lain menyelamatkan negerinya dari kekuasaanku?

³⁴Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?

³⁴Di manakah dewa-dewa negeri Hamat dan Arpad? Di manakah dewa-dewa Sefarwaim, Hena, dan Iwa? Adakah yang datang menyelamatkan Samaria?

³⁵Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?

³⁵Dewa manakah pernah melepaskan negerinya dari kekuasaanku? Mana bisa TUHAN menyelamatkan Yerusalem?'"

³⁶But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

³⁶Mendengar itu, penduduk Yerusalem tidak menjawab, sebab Raja Hizkia sudah memerintahkan supaya mereka diam saja.

³⁷Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

³⁷Maka Elyakim, Sebna, dan Yoah merobek pakaian mereka tanda sedih, lalu pergi melaporkan kepada raja apa yang telah dikatakan oleh perwira Asyur itu.
