¹Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

²Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

²信仰によるわたしの真実な子テモテへ。父なる神とわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、あなたにあるように。

³As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

³わたしがマケドニヤに向かって出発する際、頼んでおいたように、あなたはエペソにとどまっていて、ある人々に、違った教を説くことをせず、

⁴Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

⁴作り話やはてしのない系図などに気をとられることもないように、命じなさい。そのようなことは信仰による神の務を果すものではなく、むしろ論議を引き起させるだけのものである。

⁵Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

⁵わたしのこの命令は、清い心と正しい良心と偽りのない信仰とから出てくる愛を目標としている。

⁶From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

⁶ある人々はこれらのものからそれて空論に走り、

⁷Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

⁷律法の教師たることを志していながら、自分の言っていることも主張していることも、わからないでいる。

⁸But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

⁸わたしたちが知っているとおり、律法なるものは、法に従って用いるなら、良いものである。

⁹Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

⁹すなわち、律法は正しい人のために定められたのではなく、不法な者と法に服さない者、不信心な者と罪ある者、神聖を汚す者と俗悪な者、父を殺す者と母を殺す者、人を殺す者、

¹⁰For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

¹⁰不品行な者、男色をする者、誘かいする者、偽る者、偽り誓う者、そのほか健全な教にもとることがあれば、そのために定められていることを認むべきである。

¹¹According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

¹¹これは、祝福に満ちた神の栄光の福音が示すところであって、わたしはこの福音をゆだねられているのである。

¹²And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

¹²わたしは、自分を強くして下さったわたしたちの主キリスト・イエスに感謝する。主はわたしを忠実な者と見て、この務に任じて下さったのである。

¹³Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

¹³わたしは以前には、神をそしる者、迫害する者、不遜な者であった。しかしわたしは、これらの事を、信仰がなかったとき、無知なためにしたのだから、あわれみをこうむったのである。

¹⁴And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁴その上、わたしたちの主の恵みが、キリスト・イエスにある信仰と愛とに伴い、ますます増し加わってきた。

¹⁵This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

¹⁵「キリスト・イエスは、罪人を救うためにこの世にきて下さった」という言葉は、確実で、そのまま受けいれるに足るものである。わたしは、その罪人のかしらなのである。

¹⁶Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

¹⁶しかし、わたしがあわれみをこうむったのは、キリスト・イエスが、まずわたしに対して限りない寛容を示し、そして、わたしが今後、彼を信じて永遠のいのちを受ける者の模範となるためである。

¹⁷Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁷世々の支配者、不朽にして見えざる唯一の神に、世々限りなく、ほまれと栄光とがあるように、アァメン。

¹⁸This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

¹⁸わたしの子テモテよ。以前あなたに対してなされた数々の預言の言葉に従って、この命令を与える。あなたは、これらの言葉に励まされて、信仰と正しい良心とを保ちながら、りっぱに戦いぬきなさい。

¹⁹Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

¹⁹ある人々は、正しい良心を捨てたため、信仰の破船に会った。その中に、ヒメナオとアレキサンデルとがいる。わたしは、神を汚さないことを学ばせるため、このふたりをサタンの手に渡したのである。

²⁰Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
