¹For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:

¹聖徒たちに対する援助については、いまさら、あなたがたに書きおくる必要はない。

²For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.

²わたしは、あなたがたの好意を知っており、そのために、あなたがたのことをマケドニヤの人々に誇って、アカヤでは昨年以来、すでに準備をしているのだと言った。そして、あなたがたの熱心は、多くの人を奮起させたのである。

³Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready:

³わたしが兄弟たちを送ることにしたのは、あなたがたについてわたしたちの誇ったことが、この場合むなしくならないで、わたしが言ったとおり準備していてもらいたいからである。

⁴Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting.

⁴そうでないと、万一マケドニヤ人がわたしと一緒に行って、準備ができていないのを見たら、あなたがたはもちろん、わたしたちも、かように信じきっていただけに、恥をかくことになろう。

⁵Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.

⁵だから、わたしは兄弟たちを促して、あなたがたの所へ先に行かせ、以前あなたがたが約束していた贈り物の準備をさせておくことが必要だと思った。それをしぶりながらではなく、心をこめて用意していてほしい。

⁶But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

⁶わたしの考えはこうである。少ししかまかない者は、少ししか刈り取らず、豊かにまく者は、豊かに刈り取ることになる。

⁷Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

⁷各自は惜しむ心からでなく、また、しいられてでもなく、自ら心で決めたとおりにすべきである。神は喜んで施す人を愛して下さるのである。

⁸And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

⁸神はあなたがたにあらゆる恵みを豊かに与え、あなたがたを常にすべてのことに満ち足らせ、すべての良いわざに富ませる力のあるかたなのである。

⁹(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

⁹「彼は貧しい人たちに散らして与えた。その義は永遠に続くであろう」と書いてあるとおりである。

¹⁰Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

¹⁰種まく人に種と食べるためのパンとを備えて下さるかたは、あなたがたにも種を備え、それをふやし、そしてあなたがたの義の実を増して下さるのである。

¹¹Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

¹¹こうして、あなたがたはすべてのことに豊かになって、惜しみなく施し、その施しはわたしたちの手によって行われ、神に感謝するに至るのである。

¹²For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;

¹²なぜなら、この援助の働きは、聖徒たちの欠乏を補えだけではなく、神に対する多くの感謝によってますます豊かになるからである。

¹³Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;

¹³すなわち、この援助を行った結果として、あなたがたがキリストの福音の告白に対して従順であることや、彼らにも、すべての人にも、惜しみなく施しをしていることがわかってきて、彼らは神に栄光を帰し、

¹⁴And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.

¹⁴そして、あなたがたに賜わったきわめて豊かな神の恵みのゆえに、あなたがたを慕い、あなたがたのために祈るのである。言いつくせない賜物のゆえに、神に感謝する。

¹⁵Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
