¹But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

¹しかし、民の間に、にせ預言者が起ったことがあるが、それと同じく、あなたがたの間にも、にせ教師が現れるであろう。彼らは、滅びに至らせる異端をひそかに持ち込み、自分たちをあがなって下さった主を否定して、すみやかな滅亡を自分の身に招いている。

²And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

²また、大ぜいの人が彼らの放縦を見習い、そのために、真理の道がそしりを受けるに至るのである。

³And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

³彼らは、貪欲のために、甘言をもってあなたがたをあざむき、利をむさぼるであろう。彼らに対するさばきは昔から猶予なく行われ、彼らの滅亡も滞ることはない。

⁴For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

⁴神は、罪を犯した御使たちを許しておかないで、彼らを下界におとしいれ、さばきの時まで暗やみの穴に閉じ込めておかれた。

⁵And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

⁵また、古い世界をそのままにしておかないで、その不信仰な世界に洪水をきたらせ、ただ、義の宣伝者ノアたち八人の者だけを保護された。

⁶And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

⁶また、ソドムとゴモラの町々を灰に帰せしめて破滅に処し、不信仰に走ろうとする人々の見せしめとし、

⁷And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

⁷ただ、非道の者どもの放縦な行いによってなやまされていた義人ロトだけを救い出された。

⁸(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

⁸（この義人は、彼らの間に住み、彼らの不法の行いを日々見聞きして、その正しい心を痛めていたのである。）

⁹The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

⁹こういうわけで、主は、信心深い者を試錬の中から救い出し、また、不義な者ども、

¹⁰But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

¹⁰特に、汚れた情欲におぼれ肉にしたがって歩み、また、権威ある者を軽んじる人々を罰して、さばきの日まで閉じ込めておくべきことを、よくご存じなのである。こういう人々は、大胆不敵なわがまま者であって、栄光ある者たちをそしってはばかるところがない。

¹¹Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

¹¹しかし、御使たちは、勢いにおいても力においても、彼らにまさっているにかかわらず、彼らを主のみまえに訴えそしることはしない。

¹²But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

¹²これらの者は、捕えられ、ほふられるために生れてきた、分別のない動物のようなもので、自分が知りもしないことをそしり、その不義の報いとして罰を受け、必ず滅ぼされてしまうのである。

¹³And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

¹³彼らは、真昼でさえ酒食を楽しみ、あなたがたと宴会に同席して、だましごとにふけっている。彼らは、しみであり、きずである。

¹⁴Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

¹⁴その目は淫行を追い、罪を犯して飽くことを知らない。彼らは心の定まらない者を誘惑し、その心は貪欲に慣れ、のろいの子となっている。

¹⁵Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

¹⁵彼らは正しい道からはずれて迷いに陥り、ベオルの子バラムの道に従った。バラムは不義の実を愛し、

¹⁶But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

¹⁶そのために、自分のあやまちに対するとがめを受けた。ものを言わないろばが、人間の声でものを言い、この預言者の狂気じみたふるまいをはばんだのである。

¹⁷These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

¹⁷この人々は、いわば、水のない井戸、突風に吹きはらわれる霧であって、彼らには暗やみが用意されている。

¹⁸For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

¹⁸彼らはむなしい誇を語り、迷いの中に生きている人々の間から、かろうじてのがれてきた者たちを、肉欲と色情とによって誘惑し、

¹⁹While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

¹⁹この人々に自由を与えると約束しながら、彼ら自身は滅亡の奴隷になっている。おおよそ、人は征服者の奴隷となるものである。

²⁰For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

²⁰彼らが、主また救主なるイエス・キリストを知ることにより、この世の汚れからのがれた後、またそれに巻き込まれて征服されるならば、彼らの後の状態は初めよりも、もっと悪くなる。

²¹For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

²¹義の道を心得ていながら、自分に授けられた聖なる戒めにそむくよりは、むしろ義の道を知らなかった方がよい。ことわざに、「犬は自分の吐いた物に帰り、豚は洗われても、また、どろの中にころがって行く」とあるが、彼らの身に起ったことは、そのとおりである。

²²But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

²²ことわざに、「犬は自分の吐いた物に帰り、豚は洗われても、また、どろの中にころがって行く」とあるが、彼らの身に起ったことは、そのとおりである。
