¹Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

¹さて兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの来臨と、わたしたちがみもとに集められることとについて、あなたがたにお願いすることがある。

²That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

²霊により、あるいは言葉により、あるいはわたしたちから出たという手紙によって、主の日はすでにきたとふれまわる者があっても、すぐさま心を動かされたり、あわてたりしてはいけない。

³Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

³だれがどんな事をしても、それにだまされてはならない。まず背教のことが起り、不法の者、すなわち、滅びの子が現れるにちがいない。

⁴Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

⁴彼は、すべて神と呼ばれたり拝まれたりするものに反抗して立ち上がり、自ら神の宮に座して、自分は神だと宣言する。

⁵Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

⁵わたしがまだあなたがたの所にいた時、これらの事をくり返して言ったのを思い出さないのか。

⁶And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

⁶そして、あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼が自分に定められた時になってから現れるように、いま彼を阻止しているものがある。

⁷For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

⁷不法の秘密の力が、すでに働いているのである。ただそれは、いま阻止している者が取り除かれる時までのことである。

⁸And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

⁸その時になると、不法の者が現れる。この者を、主イエスは口の息をもって殺し、来臨の輝きによって滅ぼすであろう。

⁹Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

⁹不法の者が来るのは、サタンの働きによるのであって、あらゆる偽りの力と、しるしと、不思議と、

¹⁰And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹⁰また、あらゆる不義の惑わしとを、滅ぶべき者どもに対して行うためである。彼らが滅びるのは、自分らの救となるべき真理に対する愛を受けいれなかった報いである。

¹¹And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

¹¹そこで神は、彼らが偽りを信じるように、迷わす力を送り、

¹²That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹²こうして、真理を信じないで不義を喜んでいたすべての人を、さばくのである。

¹³But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

¹³しかし、主に愛されている兄弟たちよ。わたしたちはいつもあなたがたのことを、神に感謝せずにはおられない。それは、神があなたがたを初めから選んで、御霊によるきよめと、真理に対する信仰とによって、救を得させようとし、

¹⁴Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴そのために、わたしたちの福音によりあなたがたを召して、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの栄光にあずからせて下さるからである。

¹⁵Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

¹⁵そこで、兄弟たちよ。堅く立って、わたしたちの言葉や手紙で教えられた言伝えを、しっかりと守り続けなさい。

¹⁶Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

¹⁶どうか、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストご自身と、わたしたちを愛し、恵みをもって永遠の慰めと確かな望みとを賜わるわたしたちの父なる神とが、あなたがたの心を励まし、あなたがたを強めて、すべての良いわざを行い、正しい言葉を語る者として下さるように。

¹⁷Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
