¹And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

¹ふたりは、イコニオムでも同じようにユダヤ人の会堂にはいって語った結果、ユダヤ人やギリシヤ人が大ぜい信じた。

²But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

²ところが、信じなかったユダヤ人たちは異邦人たちをそそのかして、兄弟たちに対して悪意をいだかせた。

³Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

³それにもかかわらず、ふたりは長い期間をそこで過ごして、大胆に主のことを語った。主は、彼らの手によってしるしと奇跡とを行わせ、そのめぐみの言葉をあかしされた。

⁴But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

⁴そこで町の人々が二派に分れ、ある人たちはユダヤ人の側につき、ある人たちは使徒の側についた。

⁵And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

⁵その時、異邦人やユダヤ人が役人たちと一緒になって反対運動を起し、使徒たちをはずかしめ、石で打とうとしたので、

⁶They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

⁶ふたりはそれと気づいて、ルカオニヤの町々、ルステラ、デルベおよびその附近の地へのがれ、

⁷And there they preached the gospel.

⁷そこで引きつづき福音を伝えた。

⁸And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

⁸ところが、ルステラに足のきかない人が、すわっていた。彼は生れながらの足なえで、歩いた経験が全くなかった。

⁹The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

⁹この人がパウロの語るのを聞いていたが、パウロは彼をじっと見て、いやされるほどの信仰が彼にあるのを認め、

¹⁰Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

¹⁰大声で「自分の足で、まっすぐに立ちなさい」と言った。すると彼は踊り上がって歩き出した。

¹¹And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

¹¹群衆はパウロのしたことを見て、声を張りあげ、ルカオニヤの地方語で、「神々が人間の姿をとって、わたしたちのところにお下りになったのだ」と叫んだ。

¹²And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

¹²彼らはバルナバをゼウスと呼び、パウロはおもに語る人なので、彼をヘルメスと呼んだ。

¹³Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

¹³そして、郊外にあるゼウス神殿の祭司が、群衆と共に、ふたりに犠牲をささげようと思って、雄牛数頭と花輪とを門前に持ってきた。

¹⁴Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

¹⁴ふたりの使徒バルナバとパウロとは、これを聞いて自分の上着を引き裂き、群衆の中に飛び込んで行き、叫んで

¹⁵And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

¹⁵言った、「皆さん、なぜこんな事をするのか。わたしたちとても、あなたがたと同じような人間である。そして、あなたがたがこのような愚にもつかぬものを捨てて、天と地と海と、その中のすべてのものをお造りになった生ける神に立ち帰るようにと、福音を説いているものである。

¹⁶Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

¹⁶神は過ぎ去った時代には、すべての国々の人が、それぞれの道を行くままにしておかれたが、

¹⁷Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

¹⁷それでも、ご自分のことをあかししないでおられたわけではない。すなわち、あなたがたのために天から雨を降らせ、実りの季節を与え、食物と喜びとで、あなたがたの心を満たすなど、いろいろのめぐみをお与えになっているのである」。

¹⁸And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

¹⁸こう言って、ふたりは、やっとのことで、群衆が自分たちに犠牲をささげるのを、思い止まらせた。

¹⁹And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

¹⁹ところが、あるユダヤ人たちはアンテオケやイコニオムから押しかけてきて、群衆を仲間に引き入れたうえ、パウロを石で打ち、死んでしまったと思って、彼を町の外に引きずり出した。

²⁰Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

²⁰しかし、弟子たちがパウロを取り囲んでいる間に、彼は起きあがって町にはいって行った。そして翌日には、バルナバと一緒にデルベにむかって出かけた。

²¹And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

²¹その町で福音を伝えて、大ぜいの人を弟子とした後、ルステラ、イコニオム、アンテオケの町々に帰って行き、

²²Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

²²弟子たちを力づけ、信仰を持ちつづけるようにと奨励し、「わたしたちが神の国にはいるのには、多くの苦難を経なければならない」と語った。

²³And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

²³また教会ごとに彼らのために長老たちを任命し、断食をして祈り、彼らをその信じている主にゆだねた。

²⁴And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

²⁴それから、ふたりはピシデヤを通過してパンフリヤにきたが、

²⁵And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

²⁵ペルガで御言を語った後、アタリヤにくだり、

²⁶And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

²⁶そこから舟でアンテオケに帰った。彼らが今なし終った働きのために、神の祝福を受けて送り出されたのは、このアンテオケからであった。

²⁷And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

²⁷彼らは到着早々、教会の人々を呼び集めて、神が彼らと共にいてして下さった数々のこと、また信仰の門を異邦人に開いて下さったことなどを、報告した。そして、ふたりはしばらくの間、弟子たちと一緒に過ごした。

²⁸And there they abode long time with the disciples.
