¹For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

¹こういうわけで、あなたがた異邦人のためにキリスト・イエスの囚人となっているこのパウロ――

²If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

²わたしがあなたがたのために神から賜わった恵みの務について、あなたがたはたしかに聞いたであろう。

³How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

³すなわち、すでに簡単に書きおくったように、わたしは啓示によって奥義を知らされたのである。

⁴Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

⁴あなたがたはそれを読めば、キリストの奥義をわたしがどう理解しているかがわかる。

⁵Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

⁵この奥義は、いまは、御霊によって彼の聖なる使徒たちと預言者たちとに啓示されているが、前の時代には、人の子らに対して、そのように知らされてはいなかったのである。

⁶That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

⁶それは、異邦人が、福音によりキリスト・イエスにあって、わたしたちと共に神の国をつぐ者となり、共に一つのからだとなり、共に約束にあずかる者となることである。

⁷Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

⁷わたしは、神の力がわたしに働いて、自分に与えられた神の恵みの賜物により、福音の僕とされたのである。

⁸Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

⁸すなわち、聖徒たちのうちで最も小さい者であるわたしにこの恵みが与えられたが、それは、キリストの無尽蔵の富を異邦人に宣べ伝え、

⁹And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

⁹更にまた、万物の造り主である神の中に世々隠されていた奥義にあずかる務がどんなものであるかを、明らかに示すためである。

¹⁰To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

¹⁰それは今、天上にあるもろもろの支配や権威が、教会をとおして、神の多種多様な知恵を知るに至るためであって、

¹¹According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

¹¹わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにあって実現された神の永遠の目的にそうものである。

¹²In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

¹²この主キリストにあって、わたしたちは、彼に対する信仰によって、確信をもって大胆に神に近づくことができるのである。

¹³Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

¹³だから、あなたがたのためにわたしが受けている患難を見て、落胆しないでいてもらいたい。わたしの患難は、あなたがたの光栄なのである。

¹⁴For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁴こういうわけで、わたしはひざをかがめて、

¹⁵Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

¹⁵天上にあり地上にあって「父」と呼ばれているあらゆるものの源なる父に祈る。

¹⁶That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

¹⁶どうか父が、その栄光の富にしたがい、御霊により、力をもってあなたがたの内なる人を強くして下さるように、

¹⁷That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

¹⁷また、信仰によって、キリストがあなたがたの心のうちに住み、あなたがたが愛に根ざし愛を基として生活することにより、

¹⁸May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

¹⁸すべての聖徒と共に、その広さ、長さ、高さ、深さを理解することができ、

¹⁹And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

¹⁹また人知をはるかに越えたキリストの愛を知って、神に満ちているもののすべてをもって、あなたがたが満たされるように、と祈る。

²⁰Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

²⁰どうか、わたしたちのうちに働く力によって、わたしたちが求めまた思うところのいっさいを、はるかに越えてかなえて下さることができるかたに、教会により、また、キリスト・イエスによって、栄光が世々限りなくあるように、アァメン。

²¹Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
