¹And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

¹さてあなたがたは、先には自分の罪過と罪とによって死んでいた者であって、

²Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

²かつてはそれらの中で、この世のならわしに従い、空中の権をもつ君、すなわち、不従順の子らの中に今も働いている霊に従って、歩いていたのである。

³Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

³また、わたしたちもみな、かつては彼らの中にいて、肉の欲に従って日を過ごし、肉とその思いとの欲するままを行い、ほかの人々と同じく、生れながらの怒りの子であった。

⁴But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

⁴しかるに、あわれみに富む神は、わたしたちを愛して下さったその大きな愛をもって、

⁵Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

⁵罪過によって死んでいたわたしたちを、キリストと共に生かし――あなたがたの救われたのは、恵みによるのである――

⁶And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

⁶キリスト・イエスにあって、共によみがえらせ、共に天上で座につかせて下さったのである。

⁷That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

⁷それは、キリスト・イエスにあってわたしたちに賜わった慈愛による神の恵みの絶大な富を、きたるべき世々に示すためであった。

⁸For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

⁸あなたがたの救われたのは、実に、恵みにより、信仰によるのである。それは、あなたがた自身から出たものではなく、神の賜物である。

⁹Not of works, lest any man should boast.

⁹決して行いによるのではない。それは、だれも誇ることがないためなのである。

¹⁰For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

¹⁰わたしたちは神の作品であって、良い行いをするように、キリスト・イエスにあって造られたのである。神は、わたしたちが、良い行いをして日を過ごすようにと、あらかじめ備えて下さったのである。

¹¹Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

¹¹だから、記憶しておきなさい。あなたがたは以前には、肉によれば異邦人であって、手で行った肉の割礼ある者と称せられる人々からは、無割礼の者と呼ばれており、

¹²That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

¹²またその当時は、キリストを知らず、イスラエルの国籍がなく、約束されたいろいろの契約に縁がなく、この世の中で希望もなく神もない者であった。

¹³But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

¹³ところが、あなたがたは、このように以前は遠く離れていたが、今ではキリスト・イエスにあって、キリストの血によって近いものとなったのである。

¹⁴For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

¹⁴キリストはわたしたちの平和であって、二つのものを一つにし、敵意という隔ての中垣を取り除き、ご自分の肉によって、

¹⁵Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

¹⁵数々の規定から成っている戒めの律法を廃棄したのである。それは、彼にあって、二つのものをひとりの新しい人に造りかえて平和をきたらせ、

¹⁶And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

¹⁶十字架によって、二つのものを一つのからだとして神と和解させ、敵意を十字架にかけて滅ぼしてしまったのである。

¹⁷And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

¹⁷それから彼は、こられた上で、遠く離れているあなたがたに平和を宣べ伝え、また近くにいる者たちにも平和を宣べ伝えられたのである。

¹⁸For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

¹⁸というのは、彼によって、わたしたち両方の者が一つの御霊の中にあって、父のみもとに近づくことができるからである。

¹⁹Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

¹⁹そこであなたがたは、もはや異国人でも宿り人でもなく、聖徒たちと同じ国籍の者であり、神の家族なのである。

²⁰And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

²⁰またあなたがたは、使徒たちや預言者たちという土台の上に建てられたものであって、キリスト・イエスご自身が隅のかしら石である。

²¹In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

²¹このキリストにあって、建物全体が組み合わされ、主にある聖なる宮に成長し、そしてあなたがたも、主にあって共に建てられて、霊なる神のすまいとなるのである。

²²In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

²²そしてあなたがたも、主にあって共に建てられて、霊なる神のすまいとなるのである。
