1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
1こうして、あなたがたは、神に愛されている子供として、神にならう者になりなさい。
2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
2また愛のうちを歩きなさい。キリストもあなたがたを愛して下さって、わたしたちのために、ご自身を、神へのかんばしいかおりのささげ物、また、いけにえとしてささげられたのである。
3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
3また、不品行といろいろな汚れや貪欲などを、聖徒にふさわしく、あなたがたの間では、口にすることさえしてはならない。
4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
4また、卑しい言葉と愚かな話やみだらな冗談を避けなさい。これらは、よろしくない事である。それよりは、むしろ感謝をささげなさい。
5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
5あなたがたは、よく知っておかねばならない。すべて不品行な者、汚れたことをする者、貪欲な者、すなわち、偶像を礼拝する者は、キリストと神との国をつぐことができない。
6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
6あなたがたは、だれにも不誠実な言葉でだまされてはいけない。これらのことから、神の怒りは不従順の子らに下るのである。
7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
7だから、彼らの仲間になってはいけない。
8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
8あなたがたは、以前はやみであったが、今は主にあって光となっている。光の子らしく歩きなさい――
9(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
9光はあらゆる善意と正義と真実との実を結ばせるものである――
10Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
10主に喜ばれるものがなんであるかを、わきまえ知りなさい。
11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
11実を結ばないやみのわざに加わらないで、むしろ、それを指摘してやりなさい。
12For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
12彼らが隠れて行っていることは、口にするだけでも恥ずかしい事である。
13But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
13しかし、光にさらされる時、すべてのものは、明らかになる。
14Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
14明らかにされたものは皆、光となるのである。だから、こう書いてある、「眠っている者よ、起きなさい。死人のなかから、立ち上がりなさい。そうすれば、キリストがあなたを照すであろう」。
15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
15そこで、あなたがたの歩きかたによく注意して、賢くない者のようにではなく、賢い者のように歩き、
16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
16今の時を生かして用いなさい。今は悪い時代なのである。
17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
17だから、愚かな者にならないで、主の御旨がなんであるかを悟りなさい。
18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
18酒に酔ってはいけない。それは乱行のもとである。むしろ御霊に満たされて、
19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
19詩とさんびと霊の歌とをもって語り合い、主にむかって心からさんびの歌をうたいなさい。
20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
20そしてすべてのことにつき、いつも、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの御名によって、父なる神に感謝し、
21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
21キリストに対する恐れの心をもって、互に仕え合うべきである。
22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
22妻たる者よ。主に仕えるように自分の夫に仕えなさい。
23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
23キリストが教会のかしらであって、自らは、からだなる教会の救主であられるように、夫は妻のかしらである。
24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
24そして教会がキリストに仕えるように、妻もすべてのことにおいて、夫に仕えるべきである。
25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
25夫たる者よ。キリストが教会を愛してそのためにご自身をささげられたように、妻を愛しなさい。
26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
26キリストがそうなさったのは、水で洗うことにより、言葉によって、教会をきよめて聖なるものとするためであり、
27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
27また、しみも、しわも、そのたぐいのものがいっさいなく、清くて傷のない栄光の姿の教会を、ご自分に迎えるためである。
28So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
28それと同じく、夫も自分の妻を、自分のからだのように愛さねばならない。自分の妻を愛する者は、自分自身を愛するのである。
29For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
29自分自身を憎んだ者は、いまだかつて、ひとりもいない。かえって、キリストが教会になさったようにして、おのれを育て養うのが常である。
30For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
30わたしたちは、キリストのからだの肢体なのである。
31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
31「それゆえに、人は父母を離れてその妻と結ばれ、ふたりの者は一体となるべきである」。
32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
32この奥義は大きい。それは、キリストと教会とをさしている。いずれにしても、あなたがたは、それぞれ、自分の妻を自分自身のように愛しなさい。妻もまた夫を敬いなさい。
33Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
33いずれにしても、あなたがたは、それぞれ、自分の妻を自分自身のように愛しなさい。妻もまた夫を敬いなさい。
