¹Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

¹子たる者よ。主にあって両親に従いなさい。これは正しいことである。

²Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

²「あなたの父と母とを敬え」。これが第一の戒めであって、次の約束がそれについている、

³That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

³「そうすれば、あなたは幸福になり、地上でながく生きながらえるであろう」。

⁴And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

⁴父たる者よ。子供をおこらせないで、主の薫陶と訓戒とによって、彼らを育てなさい。

⁵Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

⁵僕たる者よ。キリストに従うように、恐れおののきつつ、真心をこめて、肉による主人に従いなさい。

⁶Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

⁶人にへつらおうとして目先だけの勤めをするのでなく、キリストの僕として心から神の御旨を行い、

⁷With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

⁷人にではなく主に仕えるように、快く仕えなさい。

⁸Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

⁸あなたがたが知っているとおり、だれでも良いことを行えば、僕であれ、自由人であれ、それに相当する報いを、それぞれ主から受けるであろう。

⁹And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

⁹主人たる者よ。僕たちに対して、同様にしなさい。おどすことを、してはならない。あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼らとあなたがたとの主は天にいますのであり、かつ人をかたより見ることをなさらないのである。

¹⁰Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹⁰最後に言う。主にあって、その偉大な力によって、強くなりなさい。

¹¹Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

¹¹悪魔の策略に対抗して立ちうるために、神の武具で身を固めなさい。

¹²For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

¹²わたしたちの戦いは、血肉に対するものではなく、もろもろの支配と、権威と、やみの世の主権者、また天上にいる悪の霊に対する戦いである。

¹³Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

¹³それだから、悪しき日にあたって、よく抵抗し、完全に勝ち抜いて、堅く立ちうるために、神の武具を身につけなさい。

¹⁴Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

¹⁴すなわち、立って真理の帯を腰にしめ、正義の胸当を胸につけ、

¹⁵And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

¹⁵平和の福音の備えを足にはき、

¹⁶Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

¹⁶その上に、信仰のたてを手に取りなさい。それをもって、悪しき者の放つ火の矢を消すことができるであろう。

¹⁷And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

¹⁷また、救のかぶとをかぶり、御霊の剣、すなわち、神の言を取りなさい。

¹⁸Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

¹⁸絶えず祈と願いをし、どんな時でも御霊によって祈り、そのために目をさましてうむことがなく、すべての聖徒のために祈りつづけなさい。

¹⁹And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

¹⁹また、わたしが口を開くときに語るべき言葉を賜わり、大胆に福音の奥義を明らかに示しうるように、わたしのためにも祈ってほしい。

²⁰For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

²⁰わたしはこの福音のための使節であり、そして鎖につながれているのであるが、つながれていても、語るべき時には大胆に語れるように祈ってほしい。

²¹But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

²¹わたしがどういう様子か、何をしているかを、あなたがたに知ってもらうために、主にあって忠実に仕えている愛する兄弟テキコが、いっさいの事を報告するであろう。

²²Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

²²彼をあなたがたのもとに送るのは、あなたがたがわたしたちの様子を知り、また彼によって心に励ましを受けるようになるためなのである。

²³Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²³父なる神とわたしたちの主イエス・キリストから平安ならびに信仰に伴う愛が、兄弟たちにあるように。変らない真実をもって、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストを愛するすべての人々に、恵みがあるように。

²⁴Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
