¹Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

¹こういうわけだから、わたしたちは聞かされていることを、いっそう強く心に留めねばならない。そうでないと、おし流されてしまう。

²For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

²というのは、御使たちをとおして語られた御言が効力を持ち、あらゆる罪過と不従順とに対して正当な報いが加えられたとすれば、

³How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

³わたしたちは、こんなに尊い救をなおざりにしては、どうして報いをのがれることができようか。この救は、初め主によって語られたものであって、聞いた人々からわたしたちにあかしされ、

⁴God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

⁴さらに神も、しるしと不思議とさまざまな力あるわざとにより、また、御旨に従い聖霊を各自に賜うことによって、あかしをされたのである。

⁵For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

⁵いったい、神は、わたしたちがここで語っているきたるべき世界を、御使たちに服従させることは、なさらなかった。

⁶But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him?

⁶聖書はある箇所で、こうあかししている、「人間が何者だから、これを御心に留められるのだろうか。人の子が何者だから、これをかえりみられるのだろうか。

⁷Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

⁷あなたは、しばらくの間、彼を御使たちよりも低い者となし、栄光とほまれとを冠として彼に与え、

⁸Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

⁸万物をその足の下に服従させて下さった」。「万物を彼に服従させて下さった」という以上、服従しないものは、何ひとつ残されていないはずである。しかし、今もなお万物が彼に服従している事実を、わたしたちは見ていない。

⁹But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

⁹ただ、「しばらくの間、御使たちよりも低い者とされた」イエスが、死の苦しみのゆえに、栄光とほまれとを冠として与えられたのを見る。それは、彼が神の恵みによって、すべての人のために死を味わわれるためであった。

¹⁰For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

¹⁰なぜなら、万物の帰すべきかた、万物を造られたかたが、多くの子らを栄光に導くのに、彼らの救の君を、苦難をとおして全うされたのは、彼にふさわしいことであったからである。

¹¹For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

¹¹実に、きよめるかたも、きよめられる者たちも、皆ひとりのかたから出ている。それゆえに主は、彼らを兄弟と呼ぶことを恥とされない。

¹²Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

¹²すなわち、「わたしは、御名をわたしの兄弟たちに告げ知らせ、教会の中で、あなたをほめ歌おう」と言い、

¹³And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

¹³また、「わたしは、彼により頼む」、また、「見よ、わたしと、神がわたしに賜わった子らとは」と言われた。

¹⁴Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

¹⁴このように、子たちは血と肉とに共にあずかっているので、イエスもまた同様に、それらをそなえておられる。それは、死の力を持つ者、すなわち悪魔を、ご自分の死によって滅ぼし、

¹⁵And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

¹⁵死の恐怖のために一生涯、奴隷となっていた者たちを、解き放つためである。

¹⁶For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

¹⁶確かに、彼は天使たちを助けることはしないで、アブラハムの子孫を助けられた。

¹⁷Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

¹⁷そこで、イエスは、神のみまえにあわれみ深い忠実な大祭司となって、民の罪をあがなうために、あらゆる点において兄弟たちと同じようにならねばならなかった。主ご自身、試錬を受けて苦しまれたからこそ、試錬の中にある者たちを助けることができるのである。

¹⁸For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
