¹Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

¹そこで、天の召しにあずかっている聖なる兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、わたしたちが告白する信仰の使者また大祭司なるイエスを、思いみるべきである。

²Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

²彼は、モーセが神の家の全体に対して忠実であったように、自分を立てたかたに対して忠実であられた。

³For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

³おおよそ、家を造る者が家そのものよりもさらに尊ばれるように、彼は、モーセ以上に、大いなる光栄を受けるにふさわしい者とされたのである。

⁴For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

⁴家はすべて、だれかによって造られるものであるが、すべてのものを造られたかたは、神である。

⁵And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

⁵さて、モーセは、後に語らるべき事がらについてあかしをするために、仕える者として、神の家の全体に対して忠実であったが、

⁶But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

⁶キリストは御子として、神の家を治めるのに忠実であられたのである。もしわたしたちが、望みの確信と誇とを最後までしっかりと持ち続けるなら、わたしたちは神の家なのである。

⁷Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

⁷だから、聖霊が言っているように、「きょう、あなたがたがみ声を聞いたなら、

⁸Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

⁸荒野における試錬の日に、神にそむいた時のように、あなたがたの心を、かたくなにしてはいけない。

⁹When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

⁹あなたがたの先祖たちは、そこでわたしを試みためし、

¹⁰Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

¹⁰しかも、四十年の間わたしのわざを見たのである。だから、わたしはその時代の人々に対して、いきどおって言った、彼らの心は、いつも迷っており、彼らは、わたしの道を認めなかった。

¹¹So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

¹¹そこで、わたしは怒って、彼らをわたしの安息にはいらせることはしない、と誓った」。

¹²Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

¹²兄弟たちよ。気をつけなさい。あなたがたの中には、あるいは、不信仰な悪い心をいだいて、生ける神から離れ去る者があるかも知れない。

¹³But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹³あなたがたの中に、罪の惑わしに陥って、心をかたくなにする者がないように、「きょう」といううちに、日々、互に励まし合いなさい。

¹⁴For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

¹⁴もし最初の確信を、最後までしっかりと持ち続けるならば、わたしたちはキリストにあずかる者となるのである。

¹⁵While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

¹⁵それについて、こう言われている、「きょう、み声を聞いたなら、神にそむいた時のように、あなたがたの心を、かたくなにしてはいけない」。

¹⁶For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

¹⁶すると、聞いたのにそむいたのは、だれであったのか。モーセに率いられて、エジプトから出て行ったすべての人々ではなかったか。

¹⁷But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

¹⁷また、四十年の間、神がいきどおられたのはだれに対してであったか。罪を犯して、その死かばねを荒野にさらした者たちに対してではなかったか。

¹⁸And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

¹⁸また、神が、わたしの安息に、はいらせることはしない、と誓われたのは、だれに向かってであったか。不従順な者に向かってではなかったか。こうして、彼らがはいることのできなかったのは、不信仰のゆえであることがわかる。

¹⁹So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
