¹Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

¹それだから、神の安息にはいるべき約束が、まだ存続しているにかかわらず、万一にも、はいりそこなう者が、あなたがたの中から出ることがないように、注意しようではないか。

²For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

²というのは、彼らと同じく、わたしたちにも福音が伝えられているのである。しかし、その聞いた御言は、彼らには無益であった。それが、聞いた者たちに、信仰によって結びつけられなかったからである。

³For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

³ところが、わたしたち信じている者は、安息にはいることができる。それは、「わたしが怒って、彼らをわたしの安息に、はいらせることはしないと、誓ったように」と言われているとおりである。しかも、みわざは世の初めに、でき上がっていた。

⁴For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

⁴すなわち、聖書のある箇所で、七日目のことについて、「神は、七日目にすべてのわざをやめて休まれた」と言われており、

⁵And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

⁵またここで、「彼らをわたしの安息に、はいらせることはしない」と言われている。

⁶Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

⁶そこで、その安息にはいる機会が、人々になお残されているのであり、しかも、初めに福音を伝えられた人々は、不従順のゆえに、はいることをしなかったのであるから、

⁷Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

⁷神は、あらためて、ある日を「きょう」として定め、長く時がたってから、先に引用したとおり、「きょう、み声を聞いたなら、あなたがたの心を、かたくなにしてはいけない」とダビデをとおして言われたのである。

⁸For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

⁸もしヨシュアが彼らを休ませていたとすれば、神はあとになって、ほかの日のことについて語られたはずはない。

⁹There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

⁹こういうわけで、安息日の休みが、神の民のためにまだ残されているのである。

¹⁰For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

¹⁰なぜなら、神の安息にはいった者は、神がみわざをやめて休まれたように、自分もわざを休んだからである。

¹¹Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

¹¹したがって、わたしたちは、この安息にはいるように努力しようではないか。そうでないと、同じような不従順の悪例にならって、落ちて行く者が出るかもしれない。

¹²For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

¹²というのは、神の言は生きていて、力があり、もろ刃のつるぎよりも鋭くて、精神と霊魂と、関節と骨髄とを切り離すまでに刺しとおして、心の思いと志とを見分けることができる。

¹³Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹³そして、神のみまえには、あらわでない被造物はひとつもなく、すべてのものは、神の目には裸であり、あらわにされているのである。この神に対して、わたしたちは言い開きをしなくてはならない。

¹⁴Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

¹⁴さて、わたしたちには、もろもろの天をとおって行かれた大祭司なる神の子イエスがいますのであるから、わたしたちの告白する信仰をかたく守ろうではないか。

¹⁵For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

¹⁵この大祭司は、わたしたちの弱さを思いやることのできないようなかたではない。罪は犯されなかったが、すべてのことについて、わたしたちと同じように試錬に会われたのである。だから、わたしたちは、あわれみを受け、また、恵みにあずかって時機を得た助けを受けるために、はばかることなく恵みの御座に近づこうではないか。

¹⁶Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
