¹When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, and the troop of robbers spoileth without.

¹わたしがイスラエルをいやすとき、エフライムの不義と、サマリヤの悪しきわざとは現れる。彼らは偽りをおこない、内では盗びとが押し入り、外では山賊の群れが襲いきたる。

²And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.

²しかし、彼らはわたしが彼らのすべての悪を覚えていることを悟らない。今、そのわざは彼らを囲んで、わたしの顔の前にある。

³They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.

³彼らはその悪をもって王を喜ばせ、その偽りをもって君たちを喜ばせる。

⁴They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.

⁴彼らはみな姦淫を行う者で、パンを焼く者が熱くする炉のようだ。パンを焼く者は、ねり粉をこねてから、それがふくれるまで、しばらく、火をおこす事をしないだけだ。

⁵In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.

⁵われわれの王の日に、つかさたちは酒の熱によって病みわずらい、王はあざける者と共に手を伸べた。

⁶For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.

⁶彼らは陰謀をもってその心を炉のように燃やす。その怒りは夜通しくすぶり、朝になると炎のように燃える。

⁷They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.

⁷彼らは皆、炉のように熱くなって、そのさばきびとを焼き滅ぼす。そのもろもろの王は皆たおれる。彼らの中にはわたしを呼ぶ者がひとりもない。

⁸Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

⁸エフライムはもろもろの民の中に入り混じる。エフライムは火にかけて、かえさない菓子である。

⁹Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.

⁹他国人らは彼の力を食い尽すが、彼はそれを知らない。しらがが混じってはえても、それを悟らない。

¹⁰And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.

¹⁰イスラエルの誇は自らに向かって証言している、彼らはこのもろもろの事があっても、なおその神、主に帰らず、また主を求めない。

¹¹Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

¹¹エフライムは知恵のない愚かな、はとのようだ。彼らはエジプトに向かって呼び求め、またアッスリヤへ行く。

¹²When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.

¹²彼らが行くとき、わたしは彼らの上に網を張って、空の鳥のように引き落し、その悪しきおこないのゆえに、彼らを懲らしめる。

¹³Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

¹³わざわいなるかな、彼らはわたしを離れて迷い出た。滅びは彼らに臨む。彼らがわたしに向かって罪を犯したからだ。わたしは彼らをあがなおうと思うが、彼らはわたしに逆らって偽りを言う。

¹⁴And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.

¹⁴彼らは真心をもってわたしを呼ばず、ただ床の上で悲しみ叫ぶ。彼らは穀物と酒のためには集まるが、わたしに逆らう。

¹⁵Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.

¹⁵わたしは彼らを教え、その腕を強くしたが、彼らはわたしに逆らって、悪しき事をはかる。彼らはバアルに帰る。彼らはあざむく弓のようだ。彼らの君たちはその舌の高ぶりのために、つるぎに倒れる。これはエジプトの国で人々のあざけりとなる。

¹⁶They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

¹⁶彼らはバアルに帰る。彼らはあざむく弓のようだ。彼らの君たちはその舌の高ぶりのために、つるぎに倒れる。これはエジプトの国で人々のあざけりとなる。
