¹Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

¹ラッパをあなたの口にあてよ、はげたかは主の家に臨む。彼らがわたしの契約を破り、わたしの律法を犯したからだ。

²Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

³Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

³イスラエルは善はしりぞけた。敵はこれを追うであろう。

⁴They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

⁴彼らは王を立てた、しかし、わたしによって立てたのではない。彼らは君を立てた、しかし、わたしはこれを知らない。彼らは銀と金をもって、自分たちの滅びのために偶像を造った。

⁵Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

⁵サマリヤよ、わたしはあなたの子牛を忌みきらう。わたしの怒りは彼らに向かって燃える。彼らはいつになればイスラエルで罪なき者となるであろうか。

⁶For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

⁶これは工人の作ったもので、神ではない。サマリヤの子牛は砕けて粉となる。

⁷For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

⁷彼らは風をまいて、つむじ風を刈り取る。立っている穀物は穂を持たず、また実らない。たとい実っても、他国人がこれを食い尽す。

⁸Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

⁸イスラエルはのまれた。彼らは諸国民の間にあって、すでに無用な器のようになった。

⁹For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

⁹彼らはひとりさまよう野のろばのように、アッスリヤにのぼって行った。エフライムは物を贈って恋人を得た。

¹⁰Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

¹⁰たとい彼らが国々に物を贈って同盟者を得ても、わたしはまもなく彼らを集める。彼らはしばらくにして、王や君たちに油をそそぐことをやめる。

¹¹Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

¹¹エフライムは多くの祭壇を造って罪を犯したゆえ、これは彼には罪を犯すための祭壇となった。

¹²I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

¹²わたしは彼のために、あまたの律法を書きしるしたが、これはかえって怪しい物のように思われた。

¹³They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

¹³彼らは犠牲を好み、肉をささげてこれを食べる。しかし主はこれを喜ばれない。今、彼らの不義を覚え、彼らの罪を罰せられる。彼らはエジプトに帰る。イスラエルは自分の造り主を忘れて、もろもろの宮殿を建てた。ユダは堅固な町々を多く増し加えた。しかしわたしは火をその町々に送って、もろもろの城を焼き滅ぼす。

¹⁴For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
