¹Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

²And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

²兵卒たちは、いばらで冠をあんで、イエスの頭にかぶらせ、紫の上着を着せ、

³And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

³それから、その前に進み出て、「ユダヤ人の王、ばんざい」と言った。そして平手でイエスを打ちつづけた。

⁴Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

⁴するとピラトは、また出て行ってユダヤ人たちに言った、「見よ、わたしはこの人をあなたがたの前に引き出すが、それはこの人になんの罪も見いだせないことを、あなたがたに知ってもらうためである」。

⁵Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

⁵イエスはいばらの冠をかぶり、紫の上着を着たままで外へ出られると、ピラトは彼らに言った、「見よ、この人だ」。

⁶When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

⁶祭司長たちや下役どもはイエスを見ると、叫んで「十字架につけよ、十字架につけよ」と言った。ピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたが、この人を引き取って十字架につけるがよい。わたしは、彼にはなんの罪も見いだせない」。

⁷The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

⁷ユダヤ人たちは彼に答えた、「わたしたちには律法があります。その律法によれば、彼は自分を神の子としたのだから、死罪に当る者です」。

⁸When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;

⁸ピラトがこの言葉を聞いたとき、ますますおそれ、

⁹And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

⁹もう一度官邸にはいってイエスに言った、「あなたは、もともと、どこからきたのか」。しかし、イエスはなんの答もなさらなかった。

¹⁰Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

¹⁰そこでピラトは言った、「何も答えないのか。わたしには、あなたを許す権威があり、また十字架につける権威があることを、知らないのか」。

¹¹Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

¹¹イエスは答えられた、「あなたは、上から賜わるのでなければ、わたしに対してなんの権威もない。だから、わたしをあなたに引き渡した者の罪は、もっと大きい」。

¹²And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

¹²これを聞いて、ピラトはイエスを許そうと努めた。しかしユダヤ人たちが叫んで言った、「もしこの人を許したなら、あなたはカイザルの味方ではありません。自分を王とするものはすべて、カイザルにそむく者です」。

¹³When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

¹³ピラトはこれらの言葉を聞いて、イエスを外へ引き出して行き、敷石（ヘブル語ではガバタ）という場所で裁判の席についた。

¹⁴And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

¹⁴その日は過越の準備の日であって、時は昼の十二時ころであった。ピラトはユダヤ人らに言った、「見よ、これがあなたがたの王だ」。

¹⁵But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

¹⁵すると彼らは叫んだ、「殺せ、殺せ、彼を十字架につけよ」。ピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたの王を、わたしが十字架につけるのか」。祭司長たちは答えた、「わたしたちには、カイザル以外に王はありません」。

¹⁶Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

¹⁶そこでピラトは、十字架につけさせるために、イエスを彼らに引き渡した。彼らはイエスを引き取った。

¹⁷And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

¹⁷イエスはみずから十字架を背負って、されこうべ（ヘブル語ではゴルゴダ）という場所に出て行かれた。

¹⁸Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

¹⁸彼らはそこで、イエスを十字架につけた。イエスをまん中にして、ほかのふたりの者を両側に、イエスと一緒に十字架につけた。

¹⁹And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

¹⁹ピラトは罪状書きを書いて、十字架の上にかけさせた。それには「ユダヤ人の王、ナザレのイエス」と書いてあった。

²⁰This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

²⁰イエスが十字架につけられた場所は都に近かったので、多くのユダヤ人がこの罪状書きを読んだ。それはヘブル、ローマ、ギリシヤの国語で書いてあった。

²¹Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

²¹ユダヤ人の祭司長たちがピラトに言った、「『ユダヤ人の王』と書かずに、『この人はユダヤ人の王と自称していた』と書いてほしい」。

²²Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

²²ピラトは答えた、「わたしが書いたことは、書いたままにしておけ」。

²³Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

²³さて、兵卒たちはイエスを十字架につけてから、その上着をとって四つに分け、おのおの、その一つを取った。また下着を手に取ってみたが、それには縫い目がなく、上の方から全部一つに織ったものであった。

²⁴They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

²⁴そこで彼らは互に言った、「それを裂かないで、だれのものになるか、くじを引こう」。これは、「彼らは互にわたしの上着を分け合い、わたしの衣をくじ引にした」という聖書が成就するためで、兵卒たちはそのようにしたのである。

²⁵Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

²⁵さて、イエスの十字架のそばには、イエスの母と、母の姉妹と、クロパの妻マリヤと、マグダラのマリヤとが、たたずんでいた。

²⁶When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

²⁶イエスは、その母と愛弟子とがそばに立っているのをごらんになって、母にいわれた、「婦人よ、ごらんなさい。これはあなたの子です」。

²⁷Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

²⁷それからこの弟子に言われた、「ごらんなさい。これはあなたの母です」。そのとき以来、この弟子はイエスの母を自分の家に引きとった。

²⁸After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

²⁸そののち、イエスは今や万事が終ったことを知って、「わたしは、かわく」と言われた。それは、聖書が全うされるためであった。

²⁹Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

²⁹そこに、酢いぶどう酒がいっぱい入れてある器がおいてあったので、人々は、このぶどう酒を含ませた海綿をヒソプの茎に結びつけて、イエスの口もとにさし出した。

³⁰When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

³⁰すると、イエスはそのぶどう酒を受けて、「すべてが終った」と言われ、首をたれて息をひきとられた。

³¹The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

³¹さてユダヤ人たちは、その日が準備の日であったので、安息日に死体を十字架の上に残しておくまいと、（特にその安息日は大事な日であったから）、ピラトに願って、足を折った上で、死体を取りおろすことにした。

³²Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

³²そこで兵卒らがきて、イエスと一緒に十字架につけられた初めの者と、もうひとりの者との足を折った。

³³But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

³³しかし、彼らがイエスのところにきた時、イエスはもう死んでおられたのを見て、その足を折ることはしなかった。

³⁴But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

³⁴しかし、ひとりの兵卒がやりでそのわきを突きさすと、すぐ血と水とが流れ出た。

³⁵And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

³⁵それを見た者があかしをした。そして、そのあかしは真実である。その人は、自分が真実を語っていることを知っている。それは、あなたがたも信ずるようになるためである。

³⁶For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

³⁶これらのことが起ったのは、「その骨はくだかれないであろう」との聖書の言葉が、成就するためである。

³⁷And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

³⁷また聖書のほかのところに、「彼らは自分が刺し通した者を見るであろう」とある。

³⁸And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

³⁸そののち、ユダヤ人をはばかって、ひそかにイエスの弟子となったアリマタヤのヨセフという人が、イエスの死体を取りおろしたいと、ピラトに願い出た。ピラトはそれを許したので、彼はイエスの死体を取りおろしに行った。

³⁹And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

³⁹また、前に、夜、イエスのみもとに行ったニコデモも、没薬と沈香とをまぜたものを百斤ほど持ってきた。

⁴⁰Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

⁴⁰彼らは、イエスの死体を取りおろし、ユダヤ人の埋葬の習慣にしたがって、香料を入れて亜麻布で巻いた。

⁴¹Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

⁴¹イエスが十字架にかけられた所には、一つの園があり、そこにはまだだれも葬られたことのない新しい墓があった。その日はユダヤ人の準備の日であったので、その墓が近くにあったため、イエスをそこに納めた。

⁴²There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
