¹After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.

¹そののち、イエスはテベリヤの海べで、ご自身をまた弟子たちにあらわされた。そのあらわされた次第は、こうである。

²There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

²シモン・ペテロが、デドモと呼ばれているトマス、ガリラヤのカナのナタナエル、ゼベダイの子らや、ほかのふたりの弟子たちと一緒にいた時のことである。

³Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

³シモン・ペテロは彼らに「わたしは漁に行くのだ」と言うと、彼らは「わたしたちも一緒に行こう」と言った。彼らは出て行って舟に乗った。しかし、その夜はなんの獲物もなかった。

⁴But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

⁴夜が明けたころ、イエスが岸に立っておられた。しかし弟子たちはそれがイエスだとは知らなかった。

⁵Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

⁵イエスは彼らに言われた、「子たちよ、何か食べるものがあるか」。彼らは「ありません」と答えた。

⁶And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

⁶すると、イエスは彼らに言われた、「舟の右の方に網をおろして見なさい。そうすれば、何かとれるだろう」。彼らは網をおろすと、魚が多くとれたので、それを引き上げることができなかった。

⁷Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

⁷イエスの愛しておられた弟子が、ペテロに「あれは主だ」と言った。シモン・ペテロは主であると聞いて、裸になっていたため、上着をまとって海にとびこんだ。

⁸And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

⁸しかし、ほかの弟子たちは舟に乗ったまま、魚のはいっている網を引きながら帰って行った。陸からはあまり遠くない五十間ほどの所にいたからである。

⁹As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

⁹彼らが陸に上って見ると、炭火がおこしてあって、その上に魚がのせてあり、またそこにパンがあった。

¹⁰Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

¹⁰イエスは彼らに言われた、「今とった魚を少し持ってきなさい」。

¹¹Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

¹¹シモン・ペテロが行って、網を陸へ引き上げると、百五十三びきの大きな魚でいっぱいになっていた。そんなに多かったが、網はさけないでいた。

¹²Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

¹²イエスは彼らに言われた、「さあ、朝の食事をしなさい」。弟子たちは、主であることがわかっていたので、だれも「あなたはどなたですか」と進んで尋ねる者がなかった。

¹³Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

¹³イエスはそこにきて、パンをとり彼らに与え、また魚も同じようにされた。

¹⁴This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

¹⁴イエスが死人の中からよみがえったのち、弟子たちにあらわれたのは、これで既に三度目である。

¹⁵So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

¹⁵彼らが食事をすませると、イエスはシモン・ペテロに言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、あなたはこの人たちが愛する以上に、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に「わたしの小羊を養いなさい」と言われた。

¹⁶He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁶またもう一度彼に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。彼はイエスに言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を飼いなさい」。

¹⁷He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁷イエスは三度目に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは「わたしを愛するか」とイエスが三度も言われたので、心をいためてイエスに言った、「主よ、あなたはすべてをご存じです。わたしがあなたを愛していることは、おわかりになっています」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を養いなさい。

¹⁸Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

¹⁸よくよくあなたに言っておく。あなたが若かった時には、自分で帯をしめて、思いのままに歩きまわっていた。しかし年をとってからは、自分の手をのばすことになろう。そして、ほかの人があなたに帯を結びつけ、行きたくない所へ連れて行くであろう」。

¹⁹This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

¹⁹これは、ペテロがどんな死に方で、神の栄光をあらわすかを示すために、お話しになったのである。こう話してから、「わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われた。

²⁰Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

²⁰ペテロはふり返ると、イエスの愛しておられた弟子がついて来るのを見た。この弟子は、あの夕食のときイエスの胸近くに寄りかかって、「主よ、あなたを裏切る者は、だれなのですか」と尋ねた人である。

²¹Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

²¹ペテロはこの弟子を見て、イエスに言った、「主よ、この人はどうなのですか」。

²²Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

²²イエスは彼に言われた、「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか。あなたは、わたしに従ってきなさい」。

²³Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

²³こういうわけで、この弟子は死ぬことがないといううわさが、兄弟たちの間にひろまった。しかし、イエスは彼が死ぬことはないと言われたのではなく、ただ「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか」と言われただけである。

²⁴This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

²⁴これらの事についてあかしをし、またこれらの事を書いたのは、この弟子である。そして彼のあかしが真実であることを、わたしたちは知っている。イエスのなさったことは、このほかにまだ数多くある。もしいちいち書きつけるならば、世界もその書かれた文書を収めきれないであろうと思う。

²⁵And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
