¹And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

¹さて、群衆が神の言を聞こうとして押し寄せてきたとき、イエスはゲネサレ湖畔に立っておられたが、

²And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

²そこに二そうの小舟が寄せてあるのをごらんになった。漁師たちは、舟からおりて網を洗っていた。

³And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

³その一そうはシモンの舟であったが、イエスはそれに乗り込み、シモンに頼んで岸から少しこぎ出させ、そしてすわって、舟の中から群衆にお教えになった。

⁴Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

⁴話がすむと、シモンに「沖へこぎ出し、網をおろして漁をしてみなさい」と言われた。

⁵And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

⁵シモンは答えて言った、「先生、わたしたちは夜通し働きましたが、何も取れませんでした。しかし、お言葉ですから、網をおろしてみましょう」。

⁶And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

⁶そしてそのとおりにしたところ、おびただしい魚の群れがはいって、網が破れそうになった。

⁷And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

⁷そこで、もう一そうの舟にいた仲間に、加勢に来るよう合図をしたので、彼らがきて魚を両方の舟いっぱいに入れた。そのために、舟が沈みそうになった。

⁸When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

⁸これを見てシモン・ペテロは、イエスのひざもとにひれ伏して言った、「主よ、わたしから離れてください。わたしは罪深い者です」。

⁹For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

⁹彼も一緒にいた者たちもみな、取れた魚がおびただしいのに驚いたからである。

¹⁰And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

¹⁰シモンの仲間であったゼベダイの子ヤコブとヨハネも、同様であった。すると、イエスがシモンに言われた、「恐れることはない。今からあなたは人間をとる漁師になるのだ」。

¹¹And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

¹¹そこで彼らは舟を陸に引き上げ、いっさいを捨ててイエスに従った。

¹²And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

¹²イエスがある町におられた時、全身らい病になっている人がそこにいた。イエスを見ると、顔を地に伏せて願って言った、「主よ、みこころでしたら、きよめていただけるのですが」。

¹³And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

¹³イエスは手を伸ばして彼にさわり、「そうしてあげよう、きよくなれ」と言われた。すると、らい病がただちに去ってしまった。

¹⁴And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

¹⁴イエスは、だれにも話さないようにと彼に言い聞かせ、「ただ行って自分のからだを祭司に見せ、それからあなたのきよめのため、モーセが命じたとおりのささげ物をして、人々に証明しなさい」とお命じになった。

¹⁵But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

¹⁵しかし、イエスの評判はますますひろまって行き、おびただしい群衆が、教を聞いたり、病気をなおしてもらったりするために、集まってきた。

¹⁶And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

¹⁶しかしイエスは、寂しい所に退いて祈っておられた。

¹⁷And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

¹⁷ある日のこと、イエスが教えておられると、ガリラヤやユダヤの方々の村から、またエルサレムからきたパリサイ人や律法学者たちが、そこにすわっていた。主の力が働いて、イエスは人々をいやされた。

¹⁸And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

¹⁸その時、ある人々が、ひとりの中風をわずらっている人を床にのせたまま連れてきて、家の中に運び入れ、イエスの前に置こうとした。

¹⁹And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.

¹⁹ところが、群衆のためにどうしても運び入れる方法がなかったので、屋根にのぼり、瓦をはいで、病人を床ごと群衆のまん中につりおろして、イエスの前においた。

²⁰And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

²⁰イエスは彼らの信仰を見て、「人よ、あなたの罪はゆるされた」と言われた。

²¹And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

²¹すると律法学者とパリサイ人たちとは、「神を汚すことを言うこの人は、いったい、何者だ。神おひとりのほかに、だれが罪をゆるすことができるか」と言って論じはじめた。

²²But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

²²イエスは彼らの論議を見ぬいて、「あなたがたは心の中で何を論じているのか。

²³Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

²³あなたの罪はゆるされたと言うのと、起きて歩けと言うのと、どちらがたやすいか。

²⁴But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

²⁴しかし、人の子は地上で罪をゆるす権威を持っていることが、あなたがたにわかるために」と彼らに対して言い、中風の者にむかって、「あなたに命じる。起きよ、床を取り上げて家に帰れ」と言われた。

²⁵And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

²⁵すると病人は即座にみんなの前で起きあがり、寝ていた床を取りあげて、神をあがめながら家に帰って行った。

²⁶And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

²⁶みんなの者は驚嘆してしまった。そして神をあがめ、おそれに満たされて、「きょうは驚くべきことを見た」と言った。

²⁷And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

²⁷そののち、イエスが出て行かれると、レビという名の取税人が収税所にすわっているのを見て、「わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われた。

²⁸And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

²⁸すると、彼はいっさいを捨てて立ちあがり、イエスに従ってきた。

²⁹And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

²⁹それから、レビは自分の家で、イエスのために盛大な宴会を催したが、取税人やそのほか大ぜいの人々が、共に食卓に着いていた。

³⁰But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

³⁰ところが、パリサイ人やその律法学者たちが、イエスの弟子たちに対してつぶやいて言った、「どうしてあなたがたは、取税人や罪人などと飲食を共にするのか」。

³¹And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

³¹イエスは答えて言われた、「健康な人には医者はいらない。いるのは病人である。

³²I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

³²わたしがきたのは、義人を招くためではなく、罪人を招いて悔い改めさせるためである」。

³³And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

³³また彼らはイエスに言った、「ヨハネの弟子たちは、しばしば断食をし、また祈をしており、パリサイ人の弟子たちもそうしているのに、あなたの弟子たちは食べたり飲んだりしています」。

³⁴And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

³⁴するとイエスは言われた、「あなたがたは、花婿が一緒にいるのに、婚礼の客に断食をさせることができるであろうか。

³⁵But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

³⁵しかし、花婿が奪い去られる日が来る。その日には断食をするであろう」。

³⁶And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

³⁶それからイエスはまた一つの譬を語られた、「だれも、新しい着物から布ぎれを切り取って、古い着物につぎを当てるものはない。もしそんなことをしたら、新しい着物を裂くことになるし、新しいのから取った布ぎれも古いのに合わないであろう。

³⁷And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

³⁷まただれも、新しいぶどう酒を古い皮袋に入れはしない。もしそんなことをしたら、新しいぶどう酒は皮袋をはり裂き、そしてぶどう酒は流れ出るし、皮袋もむだになるであろう。

³⁸But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

³⁸新しいぶどう酒は新しい皮袋に入れるべきである。まただれも、古い酒を飲んでから、新しいのをほしがりはしない。『古いのが良い』と考えているからである」。

³⁹No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

³⁹まただれも、古い酒を飲んでから、新しいのをほしがりはしない。『古いのが良い』と考えているからである」。
