¹And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

¹さて、イエスは聖霊に満ちてヨルダン川から帰り、

²Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

²荒野を四十日のあいだ御霊にひきまわされて、悪魔の試みにあわれた。そのあいだ何も食べず、その日数がつきると、空腹になられた。

³And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

³そこで悪魔が言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、この石に、パンになれと命じてごらんなさい」。

⁴And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

⁴イエスは答えて言われた、「『人はパンだけで生きるものではない』と書いてある」。

⁵And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

⁵それから、悪魔はイエスを高い所へ連れて行き、またたくまに世界のすべての国々を見せて

⁶And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

⁶言った、「これらの国々の権威と栄華とをみんな、あなたにあげましょう。それらはわたしに任せられていて、だれでも好きな人にあげてよいのですから。

⁷If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

⁷それで、もしあなたがわたしの前にひざまずくなら、これを全部あなたのものにしてあげましょう」。

⁸And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁸イエスは答えて言われた、「『主なるあなたの神を拝し、ただ神にのみ仕えよ』と書いてある」。

⁹And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

⁹それから悪魔はイエスをエルサレムに連れて行き、宮の頂上に立たせて言った、「もしあなたが神の子であるなら、ここから下へ飛びおりてごらんなさい。

¹⁰For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

¹⁰『神はあなたのために、御使たちに命じてあなたを守らせるであろう』とあり、

¹¹And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

¹¹また、『あなたの足が石に打ちつけられないように、彼らはあなたを手でささえるであろう』とも書いてあります」。

¹²And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

¹²イエスは答えて言われた、「『主なるあなたの神を試みてはならない』と言われている」。

¹³And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

¹³悪魔はあらゆる試みをしつくして、一時イエスを離れた。

¹⁴And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

¹⁴それからイエスは御霊の力に満ちあふれてガリラヤへ帰られると、そのうわさがその地方全体にひろまった。

¹⁵And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

¹⁵イエスは諸会堂で教え、みんなの者から尊敬をお受けになった。

¹⁶And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

¹⁶それからお育ちになったナザレに行き、安息日にいつものように会堂にはいり、聖書を朗読しようとして立たれた。

¹⁷And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

¹⁷すると預言者イザヤの書が手渡されたので、その書を開いて、こう書いてある所を出された、

¹⁸The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

¹⁸「主の御霊がわたしに宿っている。貧しい人々に福音を宣べ伝えさせるために、わたしを聖別してくださったからである。主はわたしをつかわして、囚人が解放され、盲人の目が開かれることを告げ知らせ、打ちひしがれている者に自由を得させ、

¹⁹To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

¹⁹主のめぐみの年を告げ知らせるのである」。

²⁰And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

²⁰イエスは聖書を巻いて係りの者に返し、席に着かれると、会堂にいるみんなの者の目がイエスに注がれた。

²¹And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

²¹そこでイエスは、「この聖句は、あなたがたが耳にしたこの日に成就した」と説きはじめられた。

²²And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

²²すると、彼らはみなイエスをほめ、またその口から出て来るめぐみの言葉に感嘆して言った、「この人はヨセフの子ではないか」。

²³And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.

²³そこで彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは、きっと『医者よ、自分自身をいやせ』ということわざを引いて、カペナウムで行われたと聞いていた事を、あなたの郷里のこの地でもしてくれ、と言うであろう」。

²⁴And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

²⁴それから言われた、「よく言っておく。預言者は、自分の郷里では歓迎されないものである。

²⁵But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

²⁵よく聞いておきなさい。エリヤの時代に、三年六か月にわたって天が閉じ、イスラエル全土に大ききんがあった際、そこには多くのやもめがいたのに、

²⁶But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

²⁶エリヤはそのうちのだれにもつかわされないで、ただシドンのサレプタにいるひとりのやもめにだけつかわされた。

²⁷And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

²⁷また預言者エリシャの時代に、イスラエルには多くのらい病人がいたのに、そのうちのひとりもきよめられないで、ただシリヤのナアマンだけがきよめられた」。

²⁸And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

²⁸会堂にいた者たちはこれを聞いて、みな憤りに満ち、

²⁹And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

²⁹立ち上がってイエスを町の外へ追い出し、その町が建っている丘のがけまでひっぱって行って、突き落そうとした。

³⁰But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

³⁰しかし、イエスは彼らのまん中を通り抜けて、去って行かれた。

³¹And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

³¹それから、イエスはガリラヤの町カペナウムに下って行かれた。そして安息日になると、人々をお教えになったが、

³²And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

³²その言葉に権威があったので、彼らはその教に驚いた。

³³And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

³³すると、汚れた悪霊につかれた人が会堂にいて、大声で叫び出した、

³⁴Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

³⁴「ああ、ナザレのイエスよ、あなたはわたしたちとなんの係わりがあるのです。わたしたちを滅ぼしにこられたのですか。あなたがどなたであるか、わかっています。神の聖者です」。

³⁵And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

³⁵イエスはこれをしかって、「黙れ、この人から出て行け」と言われた。すると悪霊は彼を人なかに投げ倒し、傷は負わせずに、その人から出て行った。

³⁶And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

³⁶みんなの者は驚いて、互に語り合って言った、「これは、いったい、なんという言葉だろう。権威と力とをもって汚れた霊に命じられると、彼らは出て行くのだ」。

³⁷And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

³⁷こうしてイエスの評判が、その地方のいたる所にひろまっていった。

³⁸And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

³⁸イエスは会堂を出てシモンの家におはいりになった。ところがシモンのしゅうとめが高い熱を病んでいたので、人々は彼女のためにイエスにお願いした。

³⁹And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

³⁹そこで、イエスはそのまくらもとに立って、熱が引くように命じられると、熱は引き、女はすぐに起き上がって、彼らをもてなした。

⁴⁰Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

⁴⁰日が暮れると、いろいろな病気になやむ者をかかえている人々が、皆それをイエスのところに連れてきたので、そのひとりびとりに手を置いて、おいやしになった。

⁴¹And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

⁴¹悪霊も「あなたこそ神の子です」と叫びながら多くの人々から出ていった。しかし、イエスは彼らを戒めて、物を言うことをお許しにならなかった。彼らがイエスはキリストだと知っていたからである。

⁴²And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.

⁴²夜が明けると、イエスは寂しい所へ出て行かれたが、群衆が捜しまわって、みもとに集まり、自分たちから離れて行かれないようにと、引き止めた。

⁴³And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.

⁴³しかしイエスは、「わたしは、ほかの町々にも神の国の福音を宣べ伝えねばならない。自分はそのためにつかわされたのである」と言われた。そして、ユダヤの諸会堂で教を説かれた。
