¹And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.

¹そこでイエスは譬で彼らに語り出された、「ある人がぶどう園を造り、垣をめぐらし、また酒ぶねの穴を掘り、やぐらを立て、それを農夫たちに貸して、旅に出かけた。

²And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

²季節になったので、農夫たちのところへ、ひとりの僕を送って、ぶどう園の収穫の分け前を取り立てさせようとした。

³And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

³すると、彼らはその僕をつかまえて、袋だたきにし、から手で帰らせた。

⁴And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

⁴また他の僕を送ったが、その頭をなぐって侮辱した。

⁵And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

⁵そこでまた他の者を送ったが、今度はそれを殺してしまった。そのほか、なお大ぜいの者を送ったが、彼らを打ったり、殺したりした。

⁶Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

⁶ここに、もうひとりの者がいた。それは彼の愛子であった。自分の子は敬ってくれるだろうと思って、最後に彼をつかわした。

⁷But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be our's.

⁷すると、農夫たちは『あれはあと取りだ。さあ、これを殺してしまおう。そうしたら、その財産はわれわれのものになるのだ』と話し合い、

⁸And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

⁸彼をつかまえて殺し、ぶどう園の外に投げ捨てた。

⁹What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

⁹このぶどう園の主人は、どうするだろうか。彼は出てきて、農夫たちを殺し、ぶどう園を他の人々に与えるであろう。

¹⁰And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

¹⁰あなたがたは、この聖書の句を読んだことがないのか。『家造りらの捨てた石が隅のかしら石になった。

¹¹This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

¹¹これは主がなされたことで、わたしたちの目には不思議に見える』」。

¹²And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

¹²彼らはいまの譬が、自分たちに当てて語られたことを悟ったので、イエスを捕えようとしたが、群衆を恐れた。そしてイエスをそこに残して立ち去った。

¹³And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

¹³さて、人々はパリサイ人やヘロデ党の者を数人、イエスのもとにつかわして、その言葉じりを捕えようとした。

¹⁴And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

¹⁴彼らはきてイエスに言った、「先生、わたしたちはあなたが真実なかたで、だれをも、はばかられないことを知っています。あなたは人に分け隔てをなさらないで、真理に基いて神の道を教えてくださいます。ところで、カイザルに税金を納めてよいでしょうか、いけないでしょうか。納めるべきでしょうか、納めてはならないのでしょうか」。

¹⁵Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

¹⁵イエスは彼らの偽善を見抜いて言われた、「なぜわたしをためそうとするのか。デナリを持ってきて見せなさい」。

¹⁶And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

¹⁶彼らはそれを持ってきた。そこでイエスは言われた、「これは、だれの肖像、だれの記号か」。彼らは「カイザルのです」と答えた。

¹⁷And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

¹⁷するとイエスは言われた、「カイザルのものはカイザルに、神のものは神に返しなさい」。彼らはイエスに驚嘆した。

¹⁸Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

¹⁸復活ということはないと主張していたサドカイ人たちが、イエスのもとにきて質問した、

¹⁹Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

¹⁹「先生、モーセは、わたしたちのためにこう書いています、『もし、ある人の兄が死んで、その残された妻に、子がない場合には、弟はこの女をめとって、兄のために子をもうけねばならない』。

²⁰Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

²⁰ここに、七人の兄弟がいました。長男は妻をめとりましたが、子がなくて死に、

²¹And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

²¹次男がその女をめとって、また子をもうけずに死に、三男も同様でした。

²²And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

²²こうして、七人ともみな子孫を残しませんでした。最後にその女も死にました。

²³In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

²³復活のとき、彼らが皆よみがえった場合、この女はだれの妻なのでしょうか。七人とも彼女を妻にしたのですが」。

²⁴And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

²⁴イエスは言われた、「あなたがたがそんな思い違いをしているのは、聖書も神の力も知らないからではないか。

²⁵For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

²⁵彼らが死人の中からよみがえるときには、めとったり、とついだりすることはない。彼らは天にいる御使のようなものである。

²⁶And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

²⁶死人がよみがえることについては、モーセの書の柴の篇で、神がモーセに仰せられた言葉を読んだことがないのか。『わたしはアブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神である』とあるではないか。

²⁷He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

²⁷神は死んだ者の神ではなく、生きている者の神である。あなたがたは非常な思い違いをしている」。

²⁸And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

²⁸ひとりの律法学者がきて、彼らが互に論じ合っているのを聞き、またイエスが巧みに答えられたのを認めて、イエスに質問した、「すべてのいましめの中で、どれが第一のものですか」。

²⁹And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

²⁹イエスは答えられた、「第一のいましめはこれである、『イスラエルよ、聞け。主なるわたしたちの神は、ただひとりの主である。

³⁰And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

³⁰心をつくし、精神をつくし、思いをつくし、力をつくして、主なるあなたの神を愛せよ』。

³¹And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

³¹第二はこれである、『自分を愛するようにあなたの隣り人を愛せよ』。これより大事ないましめは、ほかにない」。

³²And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

³²そこで、この律法学者はイエスに言った、「先生、仰せのとおりです、『神はひとりであって、そのほかに神はない』と言われたのは、ほんとうです。

³³And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

³³また『心をつくし、知恵をつくし、力をつくして神を愛し、また自分を愛するように隣り人を愛する』ということは、すべての燔祭や犠牲よりも、はるかに大事なことです」。

³⁴And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

³⁴イエスは、彼が適切な答をしたのを見て言われた、「あなたは神の国から遠くない」。それから後は、イエスにあえて問う者はなかった。

³⁵And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?

³⁵イエスが宮で教えておられたとき、こう言われた、「律法学者たちは、どうしてキリストをダビデの子だと言うのか。

³⁶For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

³⁶ダビデ自身が聖霊に感じて言った、『主はわが主に仰せになった、あなたの敵をあなたの足もとに置くときまでは、わたしの右に座していなさい』。

³⁷David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

³⁷このように、ダビデ自身がキリストを主と呼んでいる。それなら、どうしてキリストはダビデの子であろうか」。大ぜいの群衆は、喜んでイエスに耳を傾けていた。

³⁸And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

³⁸イエスはその教の中で言われた、「律法学者に気をつけなさい。彼らは長い衣を着て歩くことや、広場であいさつされることや、

³⁹And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

³⁹また会堂の上席、宴会の上座を好んでいる。

⁴⁰Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

⁴⁰また、やもめたちの家を食い倒し、見えのために長い祈をする。彼らはもっときびしいさばきを受けるであろう」。

⁴¹And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

⁴¹イエスは、さいせん箱にむかってすわり、群衆がその箱に金を投げ入れる様子を見ておられた。多くの金持は、たくさんの金を投げ入れていた。

⁴²And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

⁴²ところが、ひとりの貧しいやもめがきて、レプタ二つを入れた。それは一コドラントに当る。

⁴³And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

⁴³そこで、イエスは弟子たちを呼び寄せて言われた、「よく聞きなさい。あの貧しいやもめは、さいせん箱に投げ入れている人たちの中で、だれよりもたくさん入れたのだ。みんなの者はありあまる中から投げ入れたが、あの婦人はその乏しい中から、あらゆる持ち物、その生活費全部を入れたからである」。

⁴⁴For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
