¹And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

¹六日ののち、イエスはペテロ、ヤコブ、ヤコブの兄弟ヨハネだけを連れて、高い山に登られた。

²And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

²ところが、彼らの目の前でイエスの姿が変り、その顔は日のように輝き、その衣は光のように白くなった。

³And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

³すると、見よ、モーセとエリヤが彼らに現れて、イエスと語り合っていた。

⁴Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

⁴ペテロはイエスにむかって言った、「主よ、わたしたちがここにいるのは、すばらしいことです。もし、おさしつかえなければ、わたしはここに小屋を三つ建てましょう。一つはあなたのために、一つはモーセのために、一つはエリヤのために」。

⁵While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

⁵彼がまだ話し終えないうちに、たちまち、輝く雲が彼らをおおい、そして雲の中から声がした、「これはわたしの愛する子、わたしの心にかなう者である。これに聞け」。

⁶And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

⁶弟子たちはこれを聞いて非常に恐れ、顔を地に伏せた。

⁷And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

⁷イエスは近づいてきて、手を彼らにおいて言われた、「起きなさい、恐れることはない」。

⁸And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

⁸彼らが目をあげると、イエスのほかには、だれも見えなかった。

⁹And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

⁹一同が山を下って来るとき、イエスは「人の子が死人の中からよみがえるまでは、いま見たことをだれにも話してはならない」と、彼らに命じられた。

¹⁰And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

¹⁰弟子たちはイエスにお尋ねして言った、「いったい、律法学者たちは、なぜ、エリヤが先に来るはずだと言っているのですか」。

¹¹And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

¹¹答えて言われた、「確かに、エリヤがきて、万事を元どおりに改めるであろう。

¹²But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

¹²しかし、あなたがたに言っておく。エリヤはすでにきたのだ。しかし人々は彼を認めず、自分かってに彼をあしらった。人の子もまた、そのように彼らから苦しみを受けることになろう」。

¹³Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

¹³そのとき、弟子たちは、イエスがバプテスマのヨハネのことを言われたのだと悟った。

¹⁴And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

¹⁴さて彼らが群衆のところに帰ると、ひとりの人がイエスに近寄ってきて、ひざまずいて、言った、

¹⁵Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

¹⁵「主よ、わたしの子をあわれんでください。てんかんで苦しんでおります。何度も何度も火の中や水の中に倒れるのです。

¹⁶And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

¹⁶それで、その子をお弟子たちのところに連れてきましたが、なおしていただけませんでした」。

¹⁷Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

¹⁷イエスは答えて言われた、「ああ、なんという不信仰な、曲った時代であろう。いつまで、わたしはあなたがたと一緒におられようか。いつまであなたがたに我慢ができようか。その子をここに、わたしのところに連れてきなさい」。

¹⁸And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

¹⁸イエスがおしかりになると、悪霊はその子から出て行った。そして子はその時いやされた。

¹⁹Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

¹⁹それから、弟子たちがひそかにイエスのもとにきて言った、「わたしたちは、どうして霊を追い出せなかったのですか」。

²⁰And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

²⁰するとイエスは言われた、「あなたがたの信仰が足りないからである。よく言い聞かせておくが、もし、からし種一粒ほどの信仰があるなら、この山にむかって『ここからあそこに移れ』と言えば、移るであろう。このように、あなたがたにできない事は、何もないであろう。〔

²¹Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

²¹しかし、このたぐいは、祈と断食とによらなければ、追い出すことはできない〕」。

²²And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

²²彼らがガリラヤで集まっていた時、イエスは言われた、「人の子は人々の手にわたされ、

²³And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

²³彼らに殺され、そして三日目によみがえるであろう」。弟子たちは非常に心をいためた。

²⁴And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?

²⁴彼らがカペナウムにきたとき、宮の納入金を集める人たちがペテロのところにきて言った、「あなたがたの先生は宮の納入金を納めないのか」。

²⁵He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

²⁵ペテロは「納めておられます」と言った。そして彼が家にはいると、イエスから先に話しかけて言われた、「シモン、あなたはどう思うか。この世の王たちは税や貢をだれから取るのか。自分の子からか、それとも、ほかの人たちからか」。

²⁶Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

²⁶ペテロが「ほかの人たちからです」と答えると、イエスは言われた、「それでは、子は納めなくてもよいわけである。しかし、彼らをつまずかせないために、海に行って、つり針をたれなさい。そして最初につれた魚をとって、その口をあけると、銀貨一枚が見つかるであろう。それをとり出して、わたしとあなたのために納めなさい」。

²⁷Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

²⁷しかし、彼らをつまずかせないために、海に行って、つり針をたれなさい。そして最初につれた魚をとって、その口をあけると、銀貨一枚が見つかるであろう。それをとり出して、わたしとあなたのために納めなさい」。
