¹The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

²He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

²イエスは彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは夕方になると、『空がまっかだから、晴だ』と言い、

³And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

³また明け方には『空が曇ってまっかだから、きょうは荒れだ』と言う。あなたがたは空の模様を見分けることを知りながら、時のしるしを見分けることができないのか。

⁴A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

⁴邪悪で不義な時代は、しるしを求める。しかし、ヨナのしるしのほかには、なんのしるしも与えられないであろう」。そして、イエスは彼らをあとに残して立ち去られた。

⁵And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

⁵弟子たちは向こう岸に行ったが、パンを持って来るのを忘れていた。

⁶Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

⁶そこでイエスは言われた、「パリサイ人とサドカイ人とのパン種を、よくよく警戒せよ」。

⁷And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

⁷弟子たちは、これは自分たちがパンを持ってこなかったためであろうと言って、互に論じ合った。

⁸Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

⁸イエスはそれと知って言われた、「信仰の薄い者たちよ、なぜパンがないからだと互に論じ合っているのか。

⁹Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

⁹まだわからないのか。覚えていないのか。五つのパンを五千人に分けたとき、幾かご拾ったか。

¹⁰Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

¹⁰また、七つのパンを四千人に分けたとき、幾かご拾ったか。

¹¹How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

¹¹わたしが言ったのは、パンについてではないことを、どうして悟らないのか。ただ、パリサイ人とサドカイ人とのパン種を警戒しなさい」。

¹²Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

¹²そのとき彼らは、イエスが警戒せよと言われたのは、パン種のことではなく、パリサイ人とサドカイ人との教のことであると悟った。

¹³When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

¹³イエスがピリポ・カイザリヤの地方に行かれたとき、弟子たちに尋ねて言われた、「人々は人の子をだれと言っているか」。

¹⁴And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

¹⁴彼らは言った、「ある人々はバプテスマのヨハネだと言っています。しかし、ほかの人たちは、エリヤだと言い、また、エレミヤあるいは預言者のひとりだ、と言っている者もあります」。

¹⁵He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

¹⁵そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「それでは、あなたがたはわたしをだれと言うか」。

¹⁶And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹⁶シモン・ペテロが答えて言った、「あなたこそ、生ける神の子キリストです」。

¹⁷And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

¹⁷すると、イエスは彼にむかって言われた、「バルヨナ・シモン、あなたはさいわいである。あなたにこの事をあらわしたのは、血肉ではなく、天にいますわたしの父である。

¹⁸And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

¹⁸そこで、わたしもあなたに言う。あなたはペテロである。そして、わたしはこの岩の上にわたしの教会を建てよう。黄泉の力もそれに打ち勝つことはない。

¹⁹And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

¹⁹わたしは、あなたに天国のかぎを授けよう。そして、あなたが地上でつなぐことは、天でもつながれ、あなたが地上で解くことは天でも解かれるであろう」。

²⁰Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

²⁰そのとき、イエスは、自分がキリストであることをだれにも言ってはいけないと、弟子たちを戒められた。

²¹From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

²¹この時から、イエス・キリストは、自分が必ずエルサレムに行き、長老、祭司長、律法学者たちから多くの苦しみを受け、殺され、そして三日目によみがえるべきことを、弟子たちに示しはじめられた。

²²Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

²²すると、ペテロはイエスをわきへ引き寄せて、いさめはじめ、「主よ、とんでもないことです。そんなことがあるはずはございません」と言った。

²³But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

²³イエスは振り向いて、ペテロに言われた、「サタンよ、引きさがれ。わたしの邪魔をする者だ。あなたは神のことを思わないで、人のことを思っている」。

²⁴Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

²⁴それからイエスは弟子たちに言われた、「だれでもわたしについてきたいと思うなら、自分を捨て、自分の十字架を負うて、わたしに従ってきなさい。

²⁵For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

²⁵自分の命を救おうと思う者はそれを失い、わたしのために自分の命を失う者は、それを見いだすであろう。

²⁶For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁶たとい人が全世界をもうけても、自分の命を損したら、なんの得になろうか。また、人はどんな代価を払って、その命を買いもどすことができようか。

²⁷For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

²⁷人の子は父の栄光のうちに、御使たちを従えて来るが、その時には、実際のおこないに応じて、それぞれに報いるであろう。よく聞いておくがよい、人の子が御国の力をもって来るのを見るまでは、死を味わわない者が、ここに立っている者の中にいる」。

²⁸Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
