¹And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,

¹さて、彼らがエルサレムに近づき、オリブ山沿いのベテパゲに着いたとき、イエスはふたりの弟子をつかわして言われた、

²Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

²「向こうの村へ行きなさい。するとすぐ、ろばがつながれていて、子ろばがそばにいるのを見るであろう。それを解いてわたしのところに引いてきなさい。

³And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

³もしだれかが、あなたがたに何か言ったなら、主がお入り用なのです、と言いなさい。そう言えば、すぐ渡してくれるであろう」。

⁴All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

⁴こうしたのは、預言者によって言われたことが、成就するためである。

⁵Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

⁵すなわち、「シオンの娘に告げよ、見よ、あなたの王がおいでになる、柔和なおかたで、ろばに乗って、くびきを負うろばの子に乗って」。

⁶And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

⁶弟子たちは出て行って、イエスがお命じになったとおりにし、

⁷And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

⁷ろばと子ろばとを引いてきた。そしてその上に自分たちの上着をかけると、イエスはそれにお乗りになった。

⁸And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

⁸群衆のうち多くの者は自分たちの上着を道に敷き、また、ほかの者たちは木の枝を切ってきて道に敷いた。

⁹And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

⁹そして群衆は、前に行く者も、あとに従う者も、共に叫びつづけた、「ダビデの子に、ホサナ。主の御名によってきたる者に、祝福あれ。いと高き所に、ホサナ」。

¹⁰And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

¹⁰イエスがエルサレムにはいって行かれたとき、町中がこぞって騒ぎ立ち、「これは、いったい、どなただろう」と言った。

¹¹And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

¹¹そこで群衆は、「この人はガリラヤのナザレから出た預言者イエスである」と言った。

¹²And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

¹²それから、イエスは宮にはいられた。そして、宮の庭で売り買いしていた人々をみな追い出し、また両替人の台や、はとを売る者の腰掛をくつがえされた。

¹³And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

¹³そして彼らに言われた、「『わたしの家は、祈の家ととなえらるべきである』と書いてある。それだのに、あなたがたはそれを強盗の巣にしている」。

¹⁴And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

¹⁴そのとき宮の庭で、盲人や足なえがみもとにきたので、彼らをおいやしになった。

¹⁵And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased,

¹⁵しかし、祭司長、律法学者たちは、イエスがなされた不思議なわざを見、また宮の庭で「ダビデの子に、ホサナ」と叫んでいる子供たちを見て立腹し、

¹⁶And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

¹⁶イエスに言った、「あの子たちが何を言っているのか、お聞きですか」。イエスは彼らに言われた、「そうだ、聞いている。あなたがたは『幼な子、乳のみ子たちの口にさんびを備えられた』とあるのを読んだことがないのか」。

¹⁷And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

¹⁷それから、イエスは彼らをあとに残し、都を出てベタニヤに行き、そこで夜を過ごされた。

¹⁸Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

¹⁸朝はやく都に帰るとき、イエスは空腹をおぼえられた。

¹⁹And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

¹⁹そして、道のかたわらに一本のいちじくの木があるのを見て、そこに行かれたが、ただ葉のほかは何も見当らなかった。そこでその木にむかって、「今から後いつまでも、おまえには実がならないように」と言われた。すると、いちじくの木はたちまち枯れた。

²⁰And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

²⁰弟子たちはこれを見て、驚いて言った、「いちじくがどうして、こうすぐに枯れたのでしょう」。

²¹Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

²¹イエスは答えて言われた、「よく聞いておくがよい。もしあなたがたが信じて疑わないならば、このいちじくにあったようなことが、できるばかりでなく、この山にむかって、動き出して海の中にはいれと言っても、そのとおりになるであろう。

²²And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

²²また、祈のとき、信じて求めるものは、みな与えられるであろう」。

²³And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

²³イエスが宮にはいられたとき、祭司長たちや民の長老たちが、その教えておられる所にきて言った、「何の権威によって、これらの事をするのですか。だれが、そうする権威を授けたのですか」。

²⁴And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

²⁴そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしも一つだけ尋ねよう。あなたがたがそれに答えてくれたなら、わたしも、何の権威によってこれらの事をするのか、あなたがたに言おう。

²⁵The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

²⁵ヨハネのバプテスマはどこからきたのであったか。天からであったか、人からであったか」。すると、彼らは互に論じて言った、「もし天からだと言えば、では、なぜ彼を信じなかったのか、とイエスは言うだろう。

²⁶But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

²⁶しかし、もし人からだと言えば、群衆が恐ろしい。人々がみなヨハネを預言者と思っているのだから」。

²⁷And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

²⁷そこで彼らは、「わたしたちにはわかりません」と答えた。すると、イエスが言われた、「わたしも何の権威によってこれらの事をするのか、あなたがたに言うまい。

²⁸But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

²⁸あなたがたはどう思うか。ある人にふたりの子があったが、兄のところに行って言った、『子よ、きょう、ぶどう園へ行って働いてくれ』。

²⁹He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

²⁹すると彼は『おとうさん、参ります』と答えたが、行かなかった。

³⁰And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

³⁰また弟のところにきて同じように言った。彼は『いやです』と答えたが、あとから心を変えて、出かけた。

³¹Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

³¹このふたりのうち、どちらが父の望みどおりにしたのか」。彼らは言った、「あとの者です」。イエスは言われた、「よく聞きなさい。取税人や遊女は、あなたがたより先に神の国にはいる。

³²For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

³²というのは、ヨハネがあなたがたのところにきて、義の道を説いたのに、あなたがたは彼を信じなかった。ところが、取税人や遊女は彼を信じた。あなたがたはそれを見たのに、あとになっても、心をいれ変えて彼を信じようとしなかった。

³³Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

³³もう一つの譬を聞きなさい。ある所に、ひとりの家の主人がいたが、ぶどう園を造り、かきをめぐらし、その中に酒ぶねの穴を掘り、やぐらを立て、それを農夫たちに貸して、旅に出かけた。

³⁴And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.

³⁴収穫の季節がきたので、その分け前を受け取ろうとして、僕たちを農夫のところへ送った。

³⁵And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

³⁵すると、農夫たちは、その僕たちをつかまえて、ひとりを袋だたきにし、ひとりを殺し、もうひとりを石で打ち殺した。

³⁶Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.

³⁶また別に、前よりも多くの僕たちを送ったが、彼らをも同じようにあしらった。

³⁷But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

³⁷しかし、最後に、わたしの子は敬ってくれるだろうと思って、主人はその子を彼らの所につかわした。

³⁸But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.

³⁸すると農夫たちは、その子を見て互に言った、『あれはあと取りだ。さあ、これを殺して、その財産を手に入れよう』。

³⁹And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.

³⁹そして彼をつかまえて、ぶどう園の外に引き出して殺した。

⁴⁰When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

⁴⁰このぶどう園の主人が帰ってきたら、この農夫たちをどうするだろうか」。

⁴¹They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

⁴¹彼らはイエスに言った、「悪人どもを、皆殺しにして、季節ごとに収穫を納めるほかの農夫たちに、そのぶどう園を貸し与えるでしょう」。

⁴²Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

⁴²イエスは彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは、聖書でまだ読んだことがないのか、『家造りらの捨てた石が隅のかしら石になった。これは主がなされたことで、わたしたちの目には不思議に見える』。

⁴³Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

⁴³それだから、あなたがたに言うが、神の国はあなたがたから取り上げられて、御国にふさわしい実を結ぶような異邦人に与えられるであろう。

⁴⁴And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

⁴⁴またその石の上に落ちる者は打ち砕かれ、それがだれかの上に落ちかかるなら、その人はこなみじんにされるであろう」。

⁴⁵And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

⁴⁵祭司長たちやパリサイ人たちがこの譬を聞いたとき、自分たちのことをさして言っておられることを悟ったので、イエスを捕えようとしたが、群衆を恐れた。群衆はイエスを預言者だと思っていたからである。

⁴⁶But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
