¹The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹ソロモンの箴言。知恵ある子は父を喜ばせ、愚かな子は母の悲しみとなる。

²Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

²不義の宝は益なく、正義は人を救い出して、死を免れさせる。

³The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

³主は正しい人を飢えさせず、悪しき者の欲望をくじかれる。

⁴He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

⁴手を動かすことを怠る者は貧しくなり、勤め働く者の手は富を得る。

⁵He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

⁵夏のうちに集める者は賢い子であり、刈入れの時に眠る者は恥をきたらせる子である。

⁶Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

⁶正しい者のこうべには祝福があり、悪しき者の口は暴虐を隠す。

⁷The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

⁷正しい者の名はほめられ、悪しき者の名は朽ちる。

⁸The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

⁸心のさとき者は戒めを受ける、むだ口をたたく愚かな者は滅ぼされる。

⁹He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

⁹まっすぐに歩む者の歩みは安全である、しかし、その道を曲げる者は災にあう。

¹⁰He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

¹⁰目で、めくばせする者は憂いをおこし、あからさまに、戒める者は平和をきたらせる。

¹¹The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

¹¹正しい者の口は命の泉である、悪しき者の口は暴虐を隠す。

¹²Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

¹²憎しみは、争いを起し、愛はすべてのとがをおおう。

¹³In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹³さとき者のくちびるには知恵があり、知恵のない者の背にはむちがある。

¹⁴Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

¹⁴知恵ある者は知識をたくわえる、愚かな者のむだ口は、今にも滅びをきたらせる。

¹⁵The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

¹⁵富める者の宝は、その堅き城であり、貧しい者の乏しきは、その滅びである。

¹⁶The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

¹⁶正しい者の受ける賃銀は命に導き、悪しき者の利得は罪に至る。

¹⁷He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

¹⁷教訓を守る者は命の道にあり、懲しめを捨てる者は道をふみ迷う。

¹⁸He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

¹⁸憎しみを隠す者には偽りのくちびるがあり、そしりを口に出す者は愚かな者である。

¹⁹In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

¹⁹言葉が多ければ、とがを免れない、自分のくちびるを制する者は知恵がある。

²⁰The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

²⁰正しい者の舌は精銀である、悪しき者の心は価値が少ない。

²¹The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

²¹正しい者のくちびるは多くの人を養い、愚かな者は知恵がなくて死ぬ。

²²The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

²²主の祝福は人を富ませる、主はこれになんの悲しみをも加えない。

²³It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

²³愚かな者は、戯れ事のように悪を行う、さとき人には賢い行いが楽しみである。

²⁴The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁴悪しき者の恐れることは自分に来り、正しい者の願うことは与えられる。

²⁵As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

²⁵あらしが通りすぎる時、悪しき者は、もはや、いなくなり、正しい者は永久に堅く立てられる。

²⁶As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

²⁶なまけ者は、これをつかわす者にとっては、酢が歯をいため、煙が目を悩ますようなものだ。

²⁷The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

²⁷主を恐れることは人の命の日を多くする、悪しき者の年は縮められる。

²⁸The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

²⁸正しい者の望みは喜びに終り、悪しき者の望みは絶える。

²⁹The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

²⁹主は、まっすぐに歩む者には城であり、悪を行う者には滅びである。

³⁰The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

³⁰正しい者はいつまでも動かされることはない、悪しき者は、地に住むことができない。

³¹The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

³¹正しい者の口は知恵をいだし、偽りの舌は抜かれる。正しい者のくちびるは喜ばるべきことをわきまえ、悪しき者の口は偽りを語る。

³²The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
