¹Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

¹⁰Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

¹⁰互に違った二種のはかり、二種のますは、ひとしく主に憎まれる。

¹¹Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

¹¹幼な子でさえも、その行いによって自らを示し、そのすることの清いか正しいかを現す。

²³互に違った二種のふんどうは主に憎まれる、偽りのはかりは良くない。

²⁴Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

²⁴人の歩みは主によって定められる、人はどうして自らその道を、明らかにすることができようか。

²⁵It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

²⁵軽々しく「これは聖なるささげ物だ」と言い、また誓いを立てて後に考えることは、その人のわなとなる。

²⁶A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

²⁶知恵ある王は、箕をもってあおぎ分けるように悪人を散らし、車をもって脱穀するように、これを罰する。

²⁷The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

²⁷人の魂は主のともしびであり、人の心の奥を探る。

²⁸Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

²⁸いつくしみと、まこととは王を守る、その位もまた正義によって保たれる。

²⁹The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

²⁹若い人の栄えはその力、老人の美しさはそのしらがである。傷つくまでに打てば悪い所は清くなり、むちで打てば心の底までも清まる。
