¹The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹悪しき者は追う人もないのに逃げる、正しい人はししのように勇ましい。

²For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

²国の罪によって、治める者は多くなり、さとく、また知識ある人によって、国はながく保つ。

³A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

³貧しい者をしえたげる貧しい人は、糧食を残さない激しい雨のようだ。

⁴They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

⁴律法を捨てる者は悪しき者をほめる、律法を守る者はこれに敵対する。

⁵Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

⁵悪人は正しいことを悟らない、主を求める者はこれをことごとく悟る。

⁶Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

⁶正しく歩む貧しい者は、曲った道を歩む富める者にまさる。

⁷Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

⁷律法を守る者は賢い子である、不品行な者と交わるものは、父をはずかしめる。

⁸He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

⁸利息と高利とによってその富をます者は、貧しい者を恵む者のために、それをたくわえる。

⁹He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

⁹耳をそむけて律法を聞かない者は、その祈でさえも憎まれる。

¹⁰Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

¹⁰正しい者を悪い道に惑わす者は、みずから自分の穴に陥る、しかし誠実な人は幸福を継ぐ。

¹¹The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

¹¹富める人は自分の目に自らを知恵ある者と見る、しかし悟りのある貧しい者は彼を見やぶる。

¹²When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

¹²正しい者が勝つときは、大いなる栄えがある、悪しき者が起るときは、民は身をかくす。

¹³He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

¹³その罪を隠す者は栄えることがない、言い表わしてこれを離れる者は、あわれみをうける。

¹⁴Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

¹⁴常に主を恐れる人はさいわいである、心をかたくなにする者は災に陥る。

¹⁵As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

¹⁵貧しい民を治める悪いつかさは、ほえるしし、または飢えたくまのようだ。

¹⁶The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

¹⁶悟りのないつかさは残忍な圧制者である、不正の利を憎む者は長命を得る。

¹⁷A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

¹⁷人を殺してその血を身に負う者は死ぬまで、のがれびとである、だれもこれを助けてはならない。

¹⁸Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

¹⁸正しく歩む者は救を得、曲った道に歩む者は穴に陥る。

¹⁹He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

¹⁹自分の田地を耕す者は食糧に飽き、無益な事に従う者は貧乏に飽きる。

²⁰A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

²⁰忠実な人は多くの祝福を得る、急いで富を得ようとする者は罰を免れない。

²¹To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

²¹人を片寄り見ることは良くない、人は一切れのパンのために、とがを犯すことがある。

²²He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

²²欲の深い人は急いで富を得ようとする、かえって欠乏が自分の所に来ることを知らない。

²³He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

²³人を戒める者は舌をもってへつらう者よりも、大いなる感謝をうける。

²⁴Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

²⁴父や母の物を盗んで「これは罪ではない」と言う者は、滅ぼす者の友である。

²⁵He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

²⁵むさぼる者は争いを起し、主に信頼する者は豊かになる。

²⁶He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

²⁶自分の心を頼む者は愚かである、知恵をもって歩む者は救を得る。

²⁷He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

²⁷貧しい者に施す者は物に不足しない、目をおおって見ない人は多くののろいをうける。悪しき者が起るときは、民は身をかくす、その滅びるときは、正しい人が増す。

²⁸When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.
