¹My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

¹わが子よ、わたしの教を忘れず、わたしの戒めを心にとめよ。

²For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

²そうすれば、これはあなたの日を長くし、命の年を延べ、あなたに平安を増し加える。

³Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

³いつくしみと、まこととを捨ててはならない、それをあなたの首に結び、心の碑にしるせ。

⁴So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

⁴そうすれば、あなたは神と人との前に恵みと、誉とを得る。

⁵Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

⁵心をつくして主に信頼せよ、自分の知識にたよってはならない。

⁶In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

⁶すべての道で主を認めよ、そうすれば、主はあなたの道をまっすぐにされる。

⁷Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

⁷自分を見て賢いと思ってはならない、主を恐れて、悪を離れよ。

⁸It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

⁸そうすれば、あなたの身を健やかにし、あなたの骨に元気を与える。

⁹Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

⁹あなたの財産と、すべての産物の初なりをもって主をあがめよ。

¹⁰So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

¹⁰そうすれば、あなたの倉は満ちて余り、あなたの酒ぶねは新しい酒であふれる。

¹¹My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

¹¹わが子よ、主の懲しめを軽んじてはならない、その戒めをきらってはならない。

¹²For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

¹²主は、愛する者を、戒められるからである、あたかも父がその愛する子を戒めるように。

¹³Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

¹³知恵を求めて得る人、悟りを得る人はさいわいである。

¹⁴For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

¹⁴知恵によって得るものは、銀によって得るものにまさり、その利益は精金よりも良いからである。

¹⁵She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

¹⁵知恵は宝石よりも尊く、あなたの望む何物も、これと比べるに足りない。

¹⁶Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

¹⁶その右の手には長寿があり、左の手には富と、誉がある。

¹⁷Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

¹⁷その道は楽しい道であり、その道筋はみな平安である。

¹⁸She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

¹⁸知恵は、これを捕える者には命の木である、これをしっかり捕える人はさいわいである。

¹⁹The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

¹⁹主は知恵をもって地の基をすえ、悟りをもって天を定められた。

²⁰By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

²⁰その知識によって海はわきいで、雲は露をそそぐ。

²¹My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

²¹わが子よ、確かな知恵と、慎みとを守って、それをあなたの目から離してはならない。

²²So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

²²それはあなたの魂の命となりあなたの首の飾りとなる。

²³Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

²³こうして、あなたは安らかに自分の道を行き、あなたの足はつまずくことがない。

²⁴When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

²⁴あなたは座しているとき、恐れることはなく、伏すとき、あなたの眠りはここちよい。

²⁵Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

²⁵あなたはにわかに起る恐怖を恐れることなく、悪しき者の滅びが来ても、それを恐れることはない。

²⁶For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

²⁶これは、主があなたの信頼する者であり、あなたの足を守って、わなに捕われさせられないからである。

²⁷Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

²⁷あなたの手に善をなす力があるならば、これをなすべき人になすことをさし控えてはならない。

²⁸Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

²⁸あなたが物を持っている時、その隣り人に向かい、「去って、また来なさい。あす、それをあげよう」と言ってはならない。

²⁹Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

²⁹あなたの隣り人がかたわらに安らかに住んでいる時、これに向かって、悪を計ってはならない。

³⁰Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

³⁰もし人があなたに悪を行ったのでなければ、ゆえなく、これと争ってはならない。

³¹Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

³¹暴虐な人を、うらやんではならない、そのすべての道を選んではならない。

³²For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

³²よこしまな者は主に憎まれるからである、しかし、正しい者は主に信任される。

³³The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

³³主の、のろいは悪しき者の家にある、しかし、正しい人のすまいは主に恵まれる。

³⁴Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

³⁴彼はあざける者をあざけり、へりくだる者に恵みを与えられる。知恵ある者は、誉を得る、しかし、愚かな者ははずかしめを得る。

³⁵The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
