¹Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

¹兄弟たちよ。わたしの心の願い、彼らのために神にささげる祈は、彼らが救われることである。

²For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

²わたしは、彼らが神に対して熱心であることはあかしするが、その熱心は深い知識によるものではない。

³For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

³なぜなら、彼らは神の義を知らないで、自分の義を立てようと努め、神の義に従わなかったからである。

⁴For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

⁴キリストは、すべて信じる者に義を得させるために、律法の終りとなられたのである。

⁵For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

⁵モーセは、律法による義を行う人は、その義によって生きる、と書いている。

⁶But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

⁶しかし、信仰による義は、こう言っている、「あなたは心のうちで、だれが天に上るであろうかと言うな」。それは、キリストを引き降ろすことである。

⁷Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

⁷また、「だれが底知れぬ所に下るであろうかと言うな」。それは、キリストを死人の中から引き上げることである。

⁸But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

⁸では、なんと言っているか。「言葉はあなたの近くにある。あなたの口にあり、心にある」。この言葉とは、わたしたちが宣べ伝えている信仰の言葉である。

⁹That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

⁹すなわち、自分の口で、イエスは主であると告白し、自分の心で、神が死人の中からイエスをよみがえらせたと信じるなら、あなたは救われる。

¹⁰For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

¹⁰なぜなら、人は心に信じて義とされ、口で告白して救われるからである。

¹¹For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

¹¹聖書は、「すべて彼を信じる者は、失望に終ることがない」と言っている。

¹²For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

¹²ユダヤ人とギリシヤ人との差別はない。同一の主が万民の主であって、彼を呼び求めるすべての人を豊かに恵んで下さるからである。

¹³For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

¹³なぜなら、「主の御名を呼び求める者は、すべて救われる」とあるからである。

¹⁴How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

¹⁴しかし、信じたことのない者を、どうして呼び求めることがあろうか。聞いたことのない者を、どうして信じることがあろうか。宣べ伝える者がいなくては、どうして聞くことがあろうか。

¹⁵And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

¹⁵つかわされなくては、どうして宣べ伝えることがあろうか。「ああ、麗しいかな、良きおとずれを告げる者の足は」と書いてあるとおりである。

¹⁶But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

¹⁶しかし、すべての人が福音に聞き従ったのではない。イザヤは、「主よ、だれがわたしたちから聞いたことを信じましたか」と言っている。

¹⁷So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

¹⁷したがって、信仰は聞くことによるのであり、聞くことはキリストの言葉から来るのである。

¹⁸But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

¹⁸しかしわたしは言う、彼らには聞えなかったのであろうか。否、むしろ「その声は全地にひびきわたり、その言葉は世界のはてにまで及んだ」。

¹⁹But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

¹⁹なお、わたしは言う、イスラエルは知らなかったのであろうか。まずモーセは言っている、「わたしはあなたがたに、国民でない者に対してねたみを起させ、無知な国民に対して、怒りをいだかせるであろう」。

²⁰But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

²⁰イザヤも大胆に言っている、「わたしは、わたしを求めない者たちに見いだされ、わたしを尋ねない者に、自分を現した」。そして、イスラエルについては、「わたしは服従せずに反抗する民に、終日わたしの手をさし伸べていた」と言っている。

²¹But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
