²Kßaxal us nak toxic chi yoßlecß camenak chiru nak toxic chi ninkßeîc. Li ani toj yoßyo, tento nak cuânk saß xchßôl lix camic xban nak aßan li rosoßjic li junjûnk.

³Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

³Kßaxal us li yâbac chiru li seßec xban nak li raylal naxtenkßa junak chixtaubal xnaßleb.

⁴The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

⁴Li ani cuan xnaßleb nacßoxlac chirix li câmc. Ut li ani mâcßaß xnaßleb caßaj cuiß li ninkßeîc naxcßoxla.

⁵It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

⁵Kßaxal us nak tokßusekß xbaneb li cuanqueb xnaßleb chiru nak tâqßuehekß kalokßal xbaneb li mâcßaßeb xnaßleb.

⁶For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

⁶Lix sahil xchßôleb li mâcßaßeb xnaßleb yal nanumeß. Mâcßaß na-oc cuiß. Chanchan li chaj li yal naxhum rib.

⁷Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.

⁷Cui cuan junak cuan xnaßleb tixrahobtesi li ras rîtzßin, li jun aßan yô chixbânunquil joß naxbânu li mâcßaß xnaßleb. Ut cui cuan junak naxqßue rib chi tuminâc ru, li jun aßan naxpoß lix naßleb.

⁸Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

⁸Kßaxal us nak tâchoy li cßanjel li ac xatiquib xbânunquil chiru nak tâtiquib xbânunquil jun chic cßanjel ut incßaß tâchoy xbânunquil. Ut kßaxal us li cuyuc ib chiru li nimobresînc ib.

⁹Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

⁹Ut incßaß tatjoskßok saß junpât joß nequeßxbânu li mâcßaßeb xnaßleb. Eb aßan nequeßjoskßoß saß junpât.

¹⁰Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.

¹⁰Incßaß tâye: —¿Cßaßut nak eb li cutan li ac xeßnumeß kßaxal useb chiruheb li cutan anakcuan?— Incßaß tâye chi joßcan xban nak caßaj cuiß li mâcßaßeb xnaßleb nequeßxye chi joßcan.

¹¹Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.

¹¹Li châbil naßleb kßaxal us chokß reheb chixjunileb li cuanqueb saß ruchichßochß. Aßan joß jun li mâtan qßuebil reheb.

¹²For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

¹²Li naßleb naxtenkßa li junjûnk. Joßcan ajcuiß li tumin naxtenkßa li junjûnk. Abanan li ani cuan xnaßleb naxnau xcolbal rix lix yußam.

¹³Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?

¹³Cheqßuehak retal li cßaßru naxbânu li Dios. ¿Ma cuan ta biß junak naru tixtîcobresi rix junak li cßaßak re ru li ac xyîb li Dios chi yocos rix?

¹⁴In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

¹⁴Chisahokß saß êchßôl nak nequex-el chi us riqßuin li cßaßru nequebânu. Ut cui nachal li raylal saß êbên, cheqßuehak retal nak li Dios naqßuehoc sahil chßôlej ut naxqßue ajcuiß li rahil chßôlej. Mâ ani naxnau cßaßru tâchâlk chiru mokon.

¹⁵All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.

¹⁶Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself ?

¹⁶Châbilakex, abanan incßaß chinumtâk lê châbilal. Chicuânk ênaßleb, abanan incßaß chinumtâk lê naßleb. ¿Cßaßru aj e nak têsach êrib êjunes?

¹⁷Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

¹⁷Cheqßuehak retal cßaßru têbânu re nak incßaß tânumtâk lê mâusilal saß êbên. Ut mêbânu tôntil naßleb. ¿Cßaßru aj e nak texcâmk chi toj mâjiß nacuulac xkßehil?

¹⁸It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.

¹⁸Us nak têbânu li cßaßru nequecßoxla xbânunquil, abanan incßaß chinumtâk li cßaßru têbânu xban nak li ani naxxucua ru li Dios, us na-el riqßuin li cßaßru li naxbânu.

¹⁹Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

¹⁹Li ani cuan xnaßleb naqßueheß xcacuilal xban lix naßleb ut cau rib chiru lajêb chi cuînk li cuanqueb xcuanquil.

²⁰For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

²⁰Relic chi yâl mâ jun cuan saß ruchichßochß li kßaxal ta tîc xchßôl chi incßaß ta tâmâcobk.

²¹Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:

²¹Mâpâb chixjunil li cßaßru nequeßxye li cristian re nak incßaß tâcuabi nak yôk chi âtinac châcuix lâ môs.

²²For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

²²Xban nak lâat nacanau nak nabal sut ajcuiß xat-âtinac chirixeb jalan.

²³All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.

²³Quin-oc xtzßilbal rix li cßaßak re ru aßin xban nak cuan innaßleb. Abanan quicuecßa nak incßaß tzßakal lin naßleb chixbânunquil.

²⁴That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out?

²⁴Incßaß quinru xtzßilbal rix li cßaßak re ru aßin xban nak kßaxal chßaßaj xtaubal ru. Mâ ani naru xtaubal ru li cßaßak re ru aßin.

²⁵I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:

²⁵Joßcan nak quin-oc xsicßbal xyâlal chanru nak tintau xtzßakob lin naßleb re nak tintau ru chixjunil li cßaßak re ru aßin. Quicuaj xtaubal ru cßaßut nak na-uxman li mâusilal ut li tôntil naßleb saß ruchichßochß.

²⁶And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

²⁷Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:

²⁹Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
