1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1Redziet, kādu mīlestību Tēvs mums dāvājis, lai mēs sauktos un būtu Dieva bērni! Tāpēc pasaule mūs nepazīst, jo tā nav Viņu pazinusi.
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
2Mīļie, tagad mēs esam Dieva bērni. Un vēl nav atklājies, kas mēs būsim. Mēs tikai zinām, ka tad, kad Viņš parādīsies, mēs būsim Viņam līdzīgi, jo mēs redzēsim Viņu tādu, kāds Viņš ir.
3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
3Un katrs, kam ir šī cerība uz Viņu, svētdara sevi, kā arī Viņš ir svēts.
4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
4Katrs, kas grēko, dara arī netaisnību; arī grēks ir netaisnība.
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
5Un jūs zināt, ka Viņš parādījies, lai gandarītu par mūsu grēkiem, un Viņā grēka nav.
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
6Katrs, kas paliek Viņā, negrēko; un katrs, kas grēko, nav Viņu redzējis, nav arī Viņu pazinis.
7Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
7Bērniņi, lai neviens jūs nemaldina! Kas dara taisnību, tas ir taisnīgs, tāpat kā Viņš ir taisnīgs.
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
8Kas grēko, tas ir no velna, jo velns grēko no sākuma. Tamdēļ Dieva Dēls atnāca, lai Viņš sagrautu velna darbus.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
9Katrs, kas no Dieva dzimis, nedara grēku, jo Viņa sēkla paliek tanī; un tas nevar grēkot, jo no Dieva dzimis.
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
10Dieva bērnus un sātana bērnus var pazīt tā: ikkatrs, kas nav taisnīgs, nav no Dieva, tāpat arī tas, kas nemīl savu brāli.
11For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
11Jo šis ir tas vēstījums, ko dzirdējāt no sākuma, lai jūs viens otru mīlētu.
12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
12Ne tā kā Kains, kas bija no ļaunā un nonāvēja savu brāli. Un kādēļ viņš to nonāvēja? Tādēļ, ka viņa darbi bija ļauni, bet viņa brāļa taisnīgi.
13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

14We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
14Mēs zinām, ka esam pārnesti no nāves dzīvībā, jo mēs mīlam brāļus. Kas nemīl, paliek nāvē.
15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
15Katrs, kas savu brāli ienīst, ir slepkava; un jūs zināt, ka nevienā slepkavā nav mūžīgās dzīvības, kas paliktu viņā.
16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
16No tā mēs pazinām Dieva mīlestību, ka Viņš par mums atdeva savu dzīvību; tā arī mums pienākas savu dzīvību atdot par brāļiem.
17But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
17Kam būtu šīs pasaules manta un viņš redzētu savu brāli trūkumā, bet noslēgtu tam savu sirdi, kā gan Dieva mīlestība paliktu viņā?
18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
18Mani bērniņi, nemīlēsim vārdos, ne ar mēli, bet darbos un patiesībā!
19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
19No tā mēs zinām, ka esam no patiesības, un Viņa priekšā varam mierināt savas sirdis.
20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
20Ja mūsu sirds pārmet mums, Dievs ir lielāks nekā mūsu sirds, un zina visu.
21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
21Mīļie, ja mūsu sirds nepārmet, tad mums ir paļāvība uz Dievu.
22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
22Un visu, ko mēs lūgsim, to saņemsim no Viņa, jo mēs izpildām Viņa baušļus un darām to, kas Viņam patīkams.
23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
23Un šis ir Viņa bauslis, lai mēs ticētu Viņa Dēla Jēzus Kristus vārdam un mīlētu viens otru, kā Viņš mums pavēlējis.
24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
24Un kas Viņa baušļus izpilda, tas paliek Viņā, un Viņš tanī; un ka Viņš mūsos paliek, to zinām no tā Gara, ko Viņš mums devis.
