1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
1प्रत्येकजण जो विश्वास ठेवतो की येशू हा ख्रिस्त आहे तो देवाचे मूल झालेला आहे. आणि प्रत्येकजण जो पित्यावर प्रीति करतो तो त्याच्या मुलावरही प्रीति करतो.
2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
2अशा प्रकारे आम्ही ओळखतो की आम्ही देवाच्या पुत्रावर प्रीति करतो: देवावर प्रीति करण्याने व त्याच्या आज्ञा पाळण्याने.
3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
3देवाप्रती असलेली आमची प्रीति आम्ही त्याच्या आज्ञापालनाकडून दाखवू शकतो आणि त्याच्या आज्ञा फार अवजड नाहीत.
4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
4कारण प्रत्येकजण जो देवाचा मूल होतो तो जगावर विजय मिळवितो, आणि यामुळे आम्हांला जगावर विजय मिळाला: आमच्या विश्वासाने.
5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
5येशू हा देवाचा पुत्र आहे असा विश्वास धरणाऱ्याशिवाय जगावर विजय मिळविणारा कोण आहे?
6This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
6येशू ख्रिस्त आमच्याकडे पाणी व रक्त यांच्यासह आला. तो केवळ पाण्याद्वारेच आमच्याकडे आला असे नाही तर पाणी आणि रक्ताद्वारे आला, व आत्मा ही साक्ष देतो, कारण आत्मा सत्य आहे.
7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
7साक्ष देणारे तीन साक्षीदार आहेत:
8And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
8आत्मा, पाणी आणि रक्त, आणि दिघेही एकच साक्ष देतात.
9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
10जो कोणी देवाच्या पुत्रावर विश्वास ठेवतो त्याच्या स्वत:मध्ये ही साक्ष आहे. जो देवाच्या साक्षीवर विश्वास ठेवीत नाही, त्याने देवाला लबाड ठरविले आहे. कारण देवाने आपल्या स्वत:च्या पुत्राबाबत दिलेल्या साक्षीवर त्याने विश्वास ठेवला नाही.
11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
11आणि देवाची जी साक्ष आहे ती ही आहे की, देवाने आपल्याला अनंतकाळचे जीवन दिले आहे आणि हे जीवन त्याच्या पुत्रामध्ये आहे.
12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
12ज्याच्याजवळ पुत्र आहे त्याला खरे जीवन आहे पण ज्याच्याजवळ पुत्र नाही त्याला खरे जीवन नाही.
13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
13जे देवाच्या पुत्राच्या नावावर विश्वास ठेवतात त्यांना मी या गोष्टी लिहीत आहे, यासाठी की, तुम्हाला अनंतकाळचे जीवन आहे, याविषयी तुम्ही निश्र्चिंत असावे,
14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
14आणि आम्हांला देवामध्ये खात्री आहे की, जेव्हा आम्ही एखाद्या गोष्टीसाठी त्याच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे प्रार्थना करतो, तेव्हा तो आमचे ऐकतो.
15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
15आणि आम्हांला हे माहीत आहे की जर तो आमचे ऐकतो, तर कोणत्याही कारणासाठी जरी आम्ही प्रार्थना केली, तर आम्हांस माहीत आहे की, जे काही आम्ही मागितले आहे ते आम्हांला मिळालेच आहे.
16If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
16जर एखाद्याला त्याचा भाऊ पापांत पडलेला दिसला आणि त्याचा परिणाम अनंतकाळचे मरण नसेल तर त्या भावासाठी त्याने प्रार्थना करावी. आणि देव त्याला जीवन देईल. ज्या गोष्टीचा परिणाम अनंतकाळचे मरण नाही अशा पापामध्ये पडणाऱ्यासाठी जे जीवन (देव देतो) त्या जीवनाविषयी मी हे बोलत आहे. ज्या पापाचा परिणाम मरण आहे. अशा तऱ्हेच्या पापाबाबत तुम्ही प्रार्थना करावी असे मी म्हणत नाही.
17All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
17सर्व अनीति हे पाप आहे, पण असे पाप आहे ज्याचा परिणाम मरण नाही.
18We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
18आम्ही जाणतो की, जो कोणी देवाचे मूल झाला आहे तो पाप करीत रहात नाही. जो देवापासून जन्मला आहे. देव स्वत: त्याचे संरक्षण करतो आणि सैतान त्याला हात लावू शकत नाही.
19And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
19आम्हाला माहीत आहे की आम्ही देवाचे आहोत, जरी संपूर्ण जग हे त्या सैतानाच्या नियंत्रणाखाली आहे.
20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
