¹And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

¹ حنا دعا کرد و گفت: «خداوند دل مرا شادمان ساخته است، از کارهایی که خدا برای من کرده است، شادی می‌کنم، با خوشحالی بر دشمنانم می‌خندم، چقدر خوشبخت هستم، چون خداوند مرا یاری نموده است.

²There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

² «او یگانه خدای پاک و مقدّس است. شریک و همتایی ندارد. هیچ پشت و پناهی مانند خدای ما نیست.

³Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

³ مغرور و متکبّر مباشید و سخنان غرورآمیز بر زبان میاورید. خداوند بر همه‌چیز آگاه است. اوست که کارهای مردم را داوری می‌کند.

⁴The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

⁴ کمان دلاوران را می‌شکند، امّا ناتوانان را نیرو می‌بخشد.

⁵They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

⁵ کسانی‌که سیر بودند اکنون برای یک لقمه نان اجیر می‌شوند، امّا آنهایی که گرسنه بودند، سیر شدند. زنی که نازا بود، هفت طفل به دنیا آورد، و آنکه فرزندان زیاد داشت، اکنون بی‌اولاد گردیده است.

⁶The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

⁶ خداوند می‌میراند و زنده می‌کند. به گور می‌برد و زنده می‌سازد.

⁷The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

⁷ خداوند فقیر می‌کند و غنی می‌گرداند. سرنگون می‌سازد و سرفراز می‌نماید.

⁸He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

⁸ مسکینان را از خاک بلند می‌کند و بینوایان را از بدبختی می‌رهاند. آنها را همنشین پادشاهان می‌گرداند و به جایگاه عزّت می‌نشاند، اساس زمین از آن خداوند است، او زمین را بر آن استوار نموده است.

⁹He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

⁹ «مؤمنین را به راه راست هدایت می‌کند و امّا شریران، در تاریکی نابود می‌گردند. انسان تنها با زور بازوی خود پیروز نمی‌گردد.

¹⁰The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

¹⁰ دشمنان خداوند نابود می‌شوند، خداوند از آسمان، آنها را با رعد و برق خواهد زد. خداوند تمام دنیا را داوری خواهد کرد. او به پادشاه برگزیدهٔ خود قدرت و پیروزی می‌بخشد.»

¹¹And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

¹¹ بعد القانه به خانهٔ خود در رامه برگشت و سموئیل در حضور عیلی کاهن، در شیلوه به خدمت خداوند مشغول بود.

¹²Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

¹² پسران عیلی اشخاص پست و فاسدی بودند. آنها به خداوند احترام نمی‌گذاشتند

¹³And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

¹³ و وظایف مذهبی را که به عهده داشتند، انجام نمی‌دادند. وقتی کسی قربانی می‌کرد، خادم آنها می‌آمد و درحالی‌که گوشت هنوز در حال پختن بود، چنگال سه شاخه‌ای را که با خود داشت در دیگ، یا پاتیل، و یا هر ظرف دیگری که در آن گوشت را می‌پختند، فرو می‌برد

¹⁴And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

¹⁴ و هرچه را که با چنگال از دیگ بیرون می‌کشید سهم کاهن بود. آنها با تمام مردم اسرائیل که به شیلوه می‌آمدند به همین ترتیب رفتار می‌کردند.

¹⁵Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

¹⁵ بیشتر وقتها پیش از سوزانیدن چربی، خادم آنها می‌آمد و به کسی‌که قربانی می‌کرد می‌گفت: «گوشت خام را برای کباب به کاهن بده، چون او گوشت پخته قبول نمی‌کند.»

¹⁶And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

¹⁶ اگر آن شخص می‌گفت: «صبر کنید تا اول چربی آن بسوزد و بعد هرقدر گوشت که می‌خواهید ببرید.» خادم به او می‌گفت: «خیر، همین حالا بده، وگرنه بزور از تو می‌گیرم.»

¹⁷Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

¹⁷ این گناه پسران عیلی در نظر خداوند بسیار بزرگ بود، زیرا آنها قربانی خداوند را بی‌حرمت می‌کردند.

¹⁸But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

¹⁸ سموئیل با یک پیش‌بند کتانی که به کمر بسته بود، خداوند را خدمت می‌کرد.

¹⁹Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

¹⁹ مادرش هر سال یک ردای کوچک برای او می‌دوخت و وقتی‌که برای تقدیم قربانی سالانه همراه شوهر خود به شیلوه می‌رفت، برایش می‌برد.

²⁰And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

²⁰ عیلی برای القانه و زنش دعای برکت می‌کرد و می‌گفت: «خداوند به عوض این طفلی که وقف او کردید، فرزندان دیگری به شما عطا کند.» بعد آنها همگی به خانهٔ خود برمی‌گشتند.

²¹And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

²¹ خداوند به حنا لطف کرد و او دارای سه پسر و دو دختر شد. سموئیل نیز در خدمت خداوند رشد می‌کرد.

²²Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

²² در این هنگام عیلی بسیار پیر شده بود و می‌شنید که پسرانش چگونه با مردم اسرائیل بدرفتاری می‌کنند و حتّی با زنانی که در کنار در ورودی خیمهٔ مقدّس خدمت می‌کردند، همخواب می‌شدند.

²³And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

²³ پس به آنها گفت: «چرا این کارها را می‌کنید؟ تمام مردم از کارهای بد شما شکایت دارند.

²⁴Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.

²⁴ فرزندان من، از این کارها دست بکشید، چیزهایی را که مردم دربارهٔ شما می‌گویند وحشتناک است.

²⁵If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

²⁵ اگر شخصی نسبت به شخص دیگری گناه ورزد، ممکن است که خدا از او دفاع کند، ولی اگر کسی نسبت به خداوند مرتکب گناهی شود، چه کسی می‌تواند برای او شفاعت کند؟» امّا آنها به نصیحت پدر خود گوش ندادند، چون ارادهٔ خدا این بود که آنها را هلاک نماید.

²⁶And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the LORD, and also with men.

²⁶ امّا سموئیل کوچک، بزرگ می‌شد و خدا و مردم از او راضی بودند.

²⁷And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

²⁷ روزی یک نبی پیش عیلی آمد و به او گفت: «خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: وقتی جدّ تو هارون و خانواده‌اش در کشور مصر بردهٔ فرعون بودند، خود را بر هارون ظاهر ساختم.

²⁸And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

²⁸ از بین تمام طایفه‌های بنی‌اسرائیل خانوادهٔ او را به عنوان کاهنان خود برگزیدم تا بر قربانگاه من قربانی تقدیم کنند و بُخور بسوزانند و در حضور من جامهٔ مخصوص کاهنان را بپوشند. تمام گوشت قربانی‌های سوختنی را برای آنها تعیین کردم.

²⁹Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honorest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

²⁹ پس چرا قربانی‌ها و نذرهایی را که مردم برای من می‌آورند، بی‌حرمت می‌کنی؟ تو به پسرانت بیشتر از من احترام می‌گذاری. به آنها اجازه می‌دهی که از خوردن بهترین گوشت قربانی که قوم من برای من می‌گذرانند، خود را چاق نمایند.

³⁰Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

³⁰ خداوند خدای اسرائیل می‌فرماید: هر چند وعده داده بودم که خاندان تو و خاندان پدرت همیشه کاهنان درگاه من باشند، امّا بعد از این نمی‌خواهم. بلکه هرکسی که به من احترام بگذارد، او را محترم می‌گردانم و کسی‌که مرا حقیر شمارد، او را حقیر خواهم ساخت.

³¹Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

³¹ روزی خواهد آمد که من تمام جوانان را در خانوادهٔ تو و نیز در طایفهٔ تو خواهم کشت به طوری که دیگر پیرمردی در خانوادهٔ تو یافت نخواهد شد.

³²And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

³² تو به مصیبت دچار می‌گردی و به برکاتی که به مردم اسرائیل می‌بخشم با حسرت نگاه خواهی کرد و هیچ‌کس در خانوادهٔ تو به سن پیری نخواهد رسید.

³³And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

³³ فقط یک نفر را از نسل تو زنده نگاه خواهم داشت. او به عنوان کاهن مرا خدمت خواهد کرد. ولی نابینا شده و امیدی نخواهد داشت. و بقیّهٔ نسل تو به طرز فجیعی کشته خواهند شد.

³⁴And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

³⁴ برای اینکه گفته‌های من بر تو ثابت شود، بدان که دو پسرت، حفنی و فینحاس در یک روز خواهند مرد.

³⁵And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

³⁵ امّا من برای خود کاهن صادقتر و باوفاتری انتخاب می‌کنم که با دل و جان مرا خدمت کند. خاندانش را برکت می‌دهم تا در حضور برگزیدهٔ من همیشه آمادهٔ خدمت باشد. بازماندگان تو برای یک سکّهٔ نقره یا یک قرص نان در مقابل او سر تعظیم خم کرده بگویند: 'لطفاً برای ما کاری در بین کاهنان بده تا لقمه نانی به دست آوریم.'»

³⁶And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

³⁶ بازماندگان تو برای یک سکّهٔ نقره یا یک قرص نان در مقابل او سر تعظیم خم کرده بگویند: 'لطفاً برای ما کاری در بین کاهنان بده تا لقمه نانی به دست آوریم.'»
