¹And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

¹ سموئیل تحت نظر عیلی، خداوند را خدمت می‌کرد. در آن زمان به ندرت پیامی از طرف خدا می‌رسید و رؤیاها کم بود.

²And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

² یک شب عیلی که چشمانش تار شده بود و چیزی را به خوبی نمی‌توانست ببیند، در بستر خود دراز کشیده بود.

³And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

³ چراغ معبد خداوند هنوز روشن بود. سموئیل هم در معبد خداوند، نزدیک صندوق پیمان خدا به خواب رفته بود.

⁴That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

⁴ در همین وقت صدای خداوند آمد و فرمود: «سموئیل! سموئیل!» او جواب داد: «بلی، آقای من.»

⁵And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

⁵ بعد از جای خود برخاست و پیش عیلی رفت و گفت: «ای آقا، تو صدایم کردی؟ چه می‌فرمایی؟» عیلی گفت: «من تو را صدا نکردم. برو بخواب.» پس سموئیل به رختخواب خود برگشت.

⁶And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

⁶ خداوند باز صدا کرد: «سموئیل!» سموئیل نمی‌دانست که او خداوند است، زیرا خداوند تا به حال با او صحبت نکرده بود، پس از جای خود برخاست و دوباره پیش عیلی رفت و پرسید: «بلی، چه می‌خواهی؟» عیلی گفت: «فرزندم، من تو را صدا نکردم، برو بخواب.» سموئیل هنوز خداوند را نمی‌شناخت زیرا تا به حال پیامی از طرف خدا به او نرسیده بود.

⁷Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

⁷ خداوند برای بار سوم سموئیل را صدا کرد. او باز برخاست و پیش عیلی رفت و گفت: «مرا صدا کردی؟ من اینجا هستم.» آنگاه عیلی دانست که خداوند سموئیل را صدا می‌کند.

⁸And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

⁸ بنابراین به سموئیل گفت: «برو بخواب. اگر باز صدایی بشنوی جواب بده و بگو: بفرما خداوندا، بنده‌ات می‌شنود.» پس سموئیل رفت و در جای خود دراز کشید.

⁹Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

⁹ خداوند آمد و در مقابل سموئیل ایستاد و مثل دفعات پیش صدا کرد: «سموئیل! سموئیل!» و سموئیل جواب داد: «بفرما خداوندا، بنده‌ات می‌شنود.»

¹⁰And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

¹⁰ خداوند به سموئیل فرمود: «من کار وحشتناکی در اسرائیل انجام خواهم داد که هر که بشنود، از ترس حیرت‌زده خواهد شد.

¹¹And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

¹¹ در آن روز همهٔ چیزهایی را که علیه خاندان عیلی گفته‌ام از اول تا آخر بجا خواهم آورد.

¹²In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

¹² به او خبر دادم که به زودی مجازات خواهند شد، زیرا پسران او به من کفر گفتند و او آنها را از گناهشان باز نداشت.

¹³For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

¹³ بنابراین قسم خوردم که گناهان خاندان عیلی را با قربانی و صدقه نمی‌بخشم.»

¹⁴And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

¹⁴ آن شب سموئیل تا صبح در بستر ماند و صبح هنگام مانند همیشه دروازه‌های معبد خداوند را باز کرد. او می‌ترسید که دربارهٔ رؤیایی که دیده بود، چیزی به عیلی بگوید.

¹⁵And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.

¹⁵ امّا عیلی، سموئیل را صدا کرد و گفت: «سموئیل فرزندم.» او جواب داد: «بلی، آقای من.»

¹⁶Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

¹⁶ عیلی پرسید: «خداوند به تو چه گفت؟ چیزی را از من پنهان مکن. اگر آنچه را که به تو گفت، به من نگویی خدا تو را مجازات کند.»

¹⁷And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

¹⁷ پس سموئیل همه‌چیز را به عیلی گفت و چیزی را از او پنهان نکرد. عیلی گفت: «او خداوند است، پس بگذار هرچه ارادهٔ او می‌باشد، انجام دهد.»

¹⁸And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

¹⁸ سموئیل بزرگ می‌شد و خداوند همراه او بود و هر چیزی را که به سموئیل می‌گفت، به حقیقت می‌پیوست.

¹⁹And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

¹⁹ تمام قوم اسرائیل، از دان در شمال، تا بئرشبع در جنوب، اطّلاع یافتند که سموئیل به مقام نبوّت برگزیده شده است. از آن به بعد خداوند خود را در شیلوه ظاهر می‌کرد، جایی که به سموئیل ظاهر شده و با او صحبت کرده بود و وقتی سموئیل صحبت می‌کرد، همهٔ مردم گوش می‌دادند.

²⁰And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.

²⁰ از آن به بعد خداوند خود را در شیلوه ظاهر می‌کرد، جایی که به سموئیل ظاهر شده و با او صحبت کرده بود و وقتی سموئیل صحبت می‌کرد، همهٔ مردم گوش می‌دادند.

²¹And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
