¹And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

¹ ابشالوم، پسر داوود خواهر زیبایی به نام تامار داشت. پسر دیگر داوود که اَمنون نام داشت عاشق تامار شد.

²And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

² عشق تامار آن‌قدر او را رنج می‌داد که سرانجام بیمار شد. چون تامار باکره بود، امکان نداشت که امنون با او رابطه‌ای داشته باشد.

³But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

³ امنون دوست هوشیار و زیرکی داشت به نام یوناداب. او پسر شمعه، برادر داوود بود.

⁴And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king's son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.

⁴ یک روز یوناداب به اَمنون گفت: «ای شاهزاده، چرا روز به روز لاغر می‌شوی و چرا به من نمی‌گویی چه مشکلی داری؟» اَمنون گفت: «من تامار، خواهر ناتنی‌ام را دوست دارم.»

⁵And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

⁵ یوناداب به او گفت: «برو به بستر و وانمود کن که مریض هستی. وقتی‌ که پدرت به دیدنت آمد از او خواهش کن که به خواهرت تامار اجازه بدهد که پیش رویت غذا تهیّه کند و خود او به تو غذا بدهد.»

⁶So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

⁶ پس اَمنون به بستر رفت و وانمود کرد که مریض است. وقتی‌که پادشاه به دیدنش آمد، اَمنون از او خواهش کرده گفت: «لطفاً اجازه بده تا تامار به اینجا بیاید و برایم خوراک بپزد تا بتوانم او را ببینم و او با دستهای خودش غذا را به من بدهد.»

⁷Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him meat.

⁷ آنگاه داوود به تامار پیام فرستاد و گفت: «به خانهٔ برادرت برو و برای او غذا بپز.»

⁸So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.

⁸ پس تامار به خانهٔ امنون رفت و امنون در اتاق خواب خود روی بستر دراز کشیده بود. تامار کمی آرد گرفت و خمیر کرد و نان پخت.

⁹And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.

⁹ بعد آن را در یک سینی برای او برد. امّا امنون از خوردن خودداری کرد و گفت: «هیچ‌کس در خانه نباشد. همه را بیرون کن.» بنابراین خانه خالی شد.

¹⁰And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

¹⁰ آنگاه امنون به تامار گفت: «نان را در اتاق خواب بیاور و به من بده.»

¹¹And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

¹¹ وقتی تامار نان را برای او به اتاق خوابش برد، اَمنون از دست او گرفت و گفت: «بیا خواهر عزیزم، با من در بستر بخواب.»

¹²And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

¹² تامار گفت: «نه، برادر، مرا وادار به این کار نکن. چنین کار شرم‌آوری در اسرائیل روی نداده است. نباید رسوایی به بار بیاوری.

¹³And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

¹³ می‌دانی که من شرمنده و رسوا می‌شوم و تو هم یکی از احمقترین مردان اسرائیل به شمار خواهی رفت. برو با پادشاه حرف بزن و او مرا به تو خواهد داد.»

¹⁴Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

¹⁴ امّا اَمنون حرف او را نشنید و چون او از تامار قویتر بود مجبورش کرد که با او همبستر شود.

¹⁵Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

¹⁵ ناگهان اَمنون از تامار متنفّر شد. نفرت او شدیدتر از عشقی بود که قبلاً به او داشت. پس به تامار گفت که فوراً از خانه‌اش خارج شود.

¹⁶And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

¹⁶ تامار گفت: «نه، ای برادر این کار غلط است، زیرا اگر مرا از خانه بیرون کنی، این کار تو بدتر از جنایتی خواهد بود که قبلاً مرتکب شدی.» امّا اَمنون نخواست او را بشنود

¹⁷Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

¹⁷ و خادم خود را صدا کرد و گفت: «بیا این زن را از نزد من بیرون ببر و در را پشت سرش ببند.»

¹⁸And she had a garment of divers colors upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

¹⁸ پس خادم اَمنون او را از خانه بیرون کرد و در را پشت سرش بست. تامار ردای بلندِ آستین‌دار به تن داشت، زیرا در آن زمان دختران باکرهٔ پادشاه آن‌گونه ردا می‌پوشیدند.

¹⁹And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

¹⁹ تامار خاکستر بر سر خود ریخت، لباس خود را پاره کرد و درحالی‌که دستهای خود را بر سر گذاشته بود فریادکنان از آنجا رفت.

²⁰And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.

²⁰ ابشالوم از تامار پرسید: «آیا برادرت این کار را با تو کرده است؟ آرام باش. غصّه نخور. او برادر توست.» تامار در خانهٔ ابشالوم در غم و پریشانی به سر می‌برد.

²¹But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.

²¹ هنگامی‌که داوود پادشاه این خبر را شنید، بسیار خشمگین شد. ولی پسر خود اَمنون را سرزنش نکرد. چون او پسر اولش بود. او را بسیار دوست می‌داشت.

²²And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

²² ابشالوم از اَمنون به‌خاطر این عمل متنفّر شد ولی خاموش ماند.

²³And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

²³ دو سال از آن ماجرا گذشت. پشم‌چینان ابشالوم در نزدیکی افرایم، پشم گوسفندان او را می‌چیدند. و ابشالوم تمام برادران خود را در آن مراسم دعوت کرد.

²⁴And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

²⁴ ابشالوم پیش پادشاه رفت و او و مأمورینش را به جشن پشم‌چینی دعوت کرد.

²⁵And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.

²⁵ پادشاه گفت: «خیر فرزندم، اگر همهٔ ما بیاییم برایت بسیار زحمت می‌شود.» ابشالوم بسیار اصرار کرد، امّا پادشاه نپذیرفت. از او تشکّر کرد و برکتش داد.

²⁶Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

²⁶ ابشالوم گفت: «اگر شما نمی‌توانید بیایید، به برادرم اَمنون اجازه دهید که بیاید.» پادشاه پرسید: «چرا می‌خواهی اَمنون بیاید؟»

²⁷But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

²⁷ امّا چون ابشالوم بسیار پافشاری کرد، پادشاه اجازه داد که اَمنون و همهٔ پسران دیگرش با او بروند.

²⁸Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

²⁸ بعد ابشالوم به خادمان خود امر کرد: «صبر کنید تا اَمنون مست شراب شود. زمانی که اشاره کردم فوراً وی را بکشید و نترسید، زیرا به دستور من این کار را می‌کنید. پس دلیر و شجاع باشید.»

²⁹And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.

²⁹ بنابراین خادمان ابشالوم امر سرور خود را بجا آورده، امنون را کشتند. پسران دیگر پادشاه بر قاطرهای خود سوار شدند و از ترس جان خود فرار کردند.

³⁰And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.

³⁰ وقتی آنها هنوز در راه بودند به داوود خبر رسید که ابشالوم همهٔ پسران او را کشته و کسی از‌ آنها زنده نمانده است.

³¹Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

³¹ آنگاه پادشاه برخاست و لباس خود را پاره کرد و بر روی زمین دراز کشید. همهٔ خدمتکارانش با جامه‌های دریده در اطرافش ایستاده بودند.

³²And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

³² امّا یوناداب، برادرزادهٔ داوود پسر شمعه گفت: «خاطرتان جمع باشد، همهٔ آنها کشته نشده‌اند. تنها اَمنون مرده است. ابشالوم از همان روزی که امنون به خواهرش تامار تجاوز کرد، نقشهٔ کشتن او را در سر داشت و چنین تصمیم گرفته بود.

³³Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

³³ خبری که شنیدید حقیقت ندارد. همان‌طور که گفتم به غیراز اَمنون همهٔ پسران پادشاه زنده هستند.»

³⁴But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

³⁴ ابشالوم فرار کرد. کسانی‌که مراقب و محافظ شهر بودند، جمعیّت بزرگی را دیدند که از جادهٔ کنار کوه به طرف شهر می‌آیند.

³⁵And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

³⁵ یوناداب به پادشاه گفت: «آنها پسران تو هستند که می‌آیند درست همان‌طور که به تو گفتم.»

³⁶And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

³⁶ همین که حرفش تمام شد، پسران پادشاه رسیدند و همگی با صدای بلند گریه کردند. پادشاه و مأمورینش هم به تلخی گریستند.

³⁷But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

³⁷ ابشالوم گریخت و پیش تلمای پسر عمیهود، پادشاه جشور رفت و داوود هر روزه برای پسر خود گریه و زاری می‌کرد.

³⁸So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

³⁸ ابشالوم مدّت سه سال در جشور ماند. اکنون داوود غم مرگ اَمنون را فراموش کرده بود و دلش می‌خواست ابشالوم را ببیند.

³⁹And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

³⁹ اکنون داوود غم مرگ اَمنون را فراموش کرده بود و دلش می‌خواست ابشالوم را ببیند.
