¹And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;

¹ داوود پادشاه در کاخ خود در امنیّت و آرامش می‌زیست. زیرا خداوند او را از شر دشمنانش رهانیده بود.

²That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

² داوود به ناتان نبی گفت: «ببین، من در این کاخ زیبای ساخته شده از سرو، زندگی می‌کنم درحالی‌که صندوق خداوند هنوز در خیمه قرار دارد.»

³And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.

³ ناتان به پادشاه گفت: «برو و آنچه در قلب توست انجام بده، زیرا خداوند با توست.»

⁴And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,

⁴ در همان شب خداوند به ناتان چنین گفت:

⁵Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?

⁵ «برو پیام مرا به بندهٔ من داوود برسان و بگو که تو کسی نیستی که برای من خانه‌ای بسازد.

⁶Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

⁶ زیرا از روزی که من بنی‌اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون آوردم در خانه‌ای ساکن نشده‌ام و جای من همیشه در خیمه بوده است.

⁷In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?

⁷ آیا در هر مکانی که من با مردم اسرائیل بوده‌ام، از رهبرانی که برای شبانی آنها برگزیدم، هرگز پرسیدم که چرا خانه‌ای از سرو برایم نساخته‌اند.

⁸Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

⁸ «پس برو و به داوود خدمتگزار من بگو خداوند متعال چنین می‌گوید: 'من تو را از میان گوسفندان در چراگاه به رهبری مردم قوم خود اسرائیل رساندم.

⁹And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

⁹ همواره با تو بوده‌ام و دشمنان تو را نابود کرده‌ام. من نام تو را مانند مردمان مشهور در دنیا پرآوازه خواهم ساخت.

¹⁰Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

¹⁰ برای قوم خود بنی‌اسرائیل، سرزمینی را تعیین کردم که برای همیشه وطن ایشان باشد و از شر دشمنان در امان باشند

¹¹And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.

¹¹ و نمی‌گذارم مانند دورانی که داوران را بر آنها گماشتم، خوار و ذلیل شوند. همچنین سلسلهٔ خاندان تو را برقرار می‌کنم.

¹²And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹² روزی که با این جهان وداع کنی و با پدرانت دفن شوی، یکی از فرزندان تو را جانشینت می‌سازم و سلطنت او را نیرومند و پایدار می‌کنم.

¹³He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

¹³ او خانه‌ای برایم خواهد ساخت و من سلطنت او را ابدی و جاودان می‌سازم.

¹⁴I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

¹⁴ من پدر او خواهم بود و او پسر من خواهد بود. امّا اگر بی‌عدالتی کند من او را مانند پدری که پسرش را تنبیه می‌کند، مجازات خواهم کرد.

¹⁵But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

¹⁵ ولی محبّت من همیشه شامل حال او خواهد بود و من او را مانند شائول که از سر راه تو برداشتم، ترک نخواهم کرد.

¹⁶And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

¹⁶ سلطنت خاندان تو پایدار و تاج و تخت تو برای ابد برقرار می‌ماند.'»

¹⁷According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

¹⁷ پس ناتان هر آنچه را که در رؤیا دید و شنید برای داوود بیان کرد.

¹⁸Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

¹⁸ آنگاه داوود پادشاه در پیشگاه خداوند زانو زد و گفت: «ای خداوند متعال، من کیستم و فامیل من کیست که شایستهٔ چنین مقامی باشیم؟

¹⁹And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?

¹⁹ علاوه بر اینها وعدهٔ نامی جاودان به خانوادهٔ من دادی تا مردم از این تعلیم بگیرند.

²⁰And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.

²⁰ از این بیشتر چه می‌توان گفت؟ زیرا ای خداوند متعال، تو می‌دانی که من چه کسی هستم.

²¹For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.

²¹ تو مطابق وعده‌ای که دادی و به‌خاطر میل و رغبت خود این کارها را می‌کنی تا من ارادهٔ تو را بدانم.

²²Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

²² ای خداوند متعال، تو خدای بزرگواری هستی. مثل و مانندی نداری. ما به گوش خود شنیده‌ایم که کسی شریک و همتای تو نیست.

²³And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

²³ هیچ ملّت دیگری مثل قوم اسرائیل، چنین خوشبخت نبوده که قوم برگزیدهٔ تو باشد. تو قوم اسرائیل را نجات دادی تا به نام تو جلال و افتخار بیاورند و معجزه‌های بزرگ و کارهای ترس‌آور نشان دادی تا مصریان و خدایانشان را از سر راه قوم خود دور کنی.

²⁴For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.

²⁴ تو قوم اسرائیل را برگزیدی که برای همیشه قوم تو باشد و تو خدای ایشان باشی.

²⁵And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said.

²⁵ «اکنون ای خداوند خدا، به وعده‌ای که به این بنده‌ات و فرزندانش دادی وفا کن و مطابق آن عمل نما.

²⁶And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.

²⁶ خداوندا، نام تو تا ابد بزرگ باد، تا گفته شود که خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل است و خاندان بنده‌ات داوود در حضور تو پایدار بماند.

²⁷For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

²⁷ ای خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، تو به من آشکار کردی که فرزندان من بر قوم اسرائیل سلطنت خواهند کرد، به این جهت جرأت کرده‌ام که به این‌گونه در حضورت نیایش کنم.

²⁸And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

²⁸ «اکنون ای خداوند متعال، تو خدا هستی و کلام تو حقیقت است و این نیکویی را به بندهٔ خود وعده داده‌ای. اکنون ای خداوند متعال، باشد که خاندان بنده‌ات را برکت دهی تا در حضور تو تا ابد بمانند، زیرا ای خداوند تو چنین گفته‌ای و خاندان بنده‌ات از برکت تو تا به ابد خجسته باد.»

²⁹Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

²⁹ اکنون ای خداوند متعال، باشد که خاندان بنده‌ات را برکت دهی تا در حضور تو تا ابد بمانند، زیرا ای خداوند تو چنین گفته‌ای و خاندان بنده‌ات از برکت تو تا به ابد خجسته باد.»
