¹Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

¹ ای قوم اسرائیل، به کلام خداوند دربارهٔ شما گوش بدهید، او علیه تمام قومی که آنها را از مصر بیرون آورد می‌فرماید:

²You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

² «از بین تمام اقوام روی زمین، من تنها شما را انتخاب کرده‌ام. به همین دلیل شما را به‌خاطر گناهانتان مجازات خواهم کرد.»

³Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

³ آیا دو نفر بدون آنکه با هم توافق کرده باشند، با هم سفر خواهند کرد؟

⁴Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

⁴ آیا شیر، وقتی شکاری نداشته باشد، در جنگل غرّش می‌کند؟ آیا شیر ژیان اگر شکاری نکرده باشد، در بیشهٔ خود می‌غرّد؟

⁵Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

⁵ اگر تله‌ای نباشد، آیا پرنده‌ای به دام می‌افتد؟ اگر تله چیزی را نگرفته باشد، آیا بسته می‌شود؟

⁶Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

⁶ وقتی شیپور جنگ نواخته شود، آیا مردم از ترس به لرزه نمی‌آیند؟ اگر خواست خداوند نباشد، آیا شهری دچار مصیبت می‌شود؟

⁷Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

⁷ خداوند قادر متعال، پیش از آنکه بندگان خود، انبیا را از ارادهٔ خود آگاه سازد، کاری نمی‌کند.

⁸The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

⁸ هرگاه شیر غرّش کند، کیست که از ترس نلرزد؟ وقتی خداوند متعال امر می‌فرماید، آیا کسی جرأت می‌کند که آن را اعلام نکند؟

⁹Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

⁹ به ساکنان قصرهای اشدود و مصر اعلام کنید و بگویید: «بر کوههای سامره جمع شوید و ببینید که چه آشوبی در آنجا برپاست و مردم مرتکب چه ظلمهایی می‌شوند.

¹⁰For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

¹⁰ «اهالی آنجا راستی و صداقت را از یاد برده‌اند. قصرهایشان پُر از غنایمی است که از راه غارت و دزدی به دست آورده‌اند.

¹¹Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.

¹¹ بنابراین دشمن می‌آید و سرزمین شما را محاصره می‌کند. دژهای شما را از بین می‌برد و قلعه‌هایتان را ویران می‌سازد.»

¹²Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

¹² خداوند می‌فرماید: «همان‌طور که چوپانی فقط دو پا و یک گوش گوسفندی را از دهن شیر باز می‌گیرد، در سامره هم تنها عدّهٔ کمی از کسانی‌که بر تختهای مجلّل تکیه زده‌اند، نجات می‌یابند.»

¹³Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,

¹³ خداوند، خدای متعال می‌فرماید: «بشنوید و این پیام را به بنی‌اسرائیل اعلام کنید.

¹⁴That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

¹⁴ در همان روزی که قوم اسرائیل را به سزای گناهشان برسانم، قربانگاههای بیت‌ئیل را هم نابود خواهم ساخت. شاخهای قربانگاه قطع می‌شوند و به زمین می‌افتند. قصرهای زمستانی و تابستانی ثروتمندان که با عاج زینت یافته‌اند با خاک یکسان خواهند شد و همهٔ خانه‌های قشنگ و بزرگشان ویران خواهند گردید.»

¹⁵And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.

¹⁵ قصرهای زمستانی و تابستانی ثروتمندان که با عاج زینت یافته‌اند با خاک یکسان خواهند شد و همهٔ خانه‌های قشنگ و بزرگشان ویران خواهند گردید.»
