¹Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

¹ گروهی از رهبران نزد من آمدند و نشستند.

²And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

² خداوند به من فرمود:

³Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

³ «ای انسان فانی، این مردان بُتهای خود را در دلهایشان جای داده‌اند و گناهانشان موجب لغزش ایشان شده است. چرا از من راهنمایی می‌خواهند؟

⁴Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

⁴ «بنابراین به ایشان بگو، خداوند متعال چنین می‌فرماید: هر اسرائیلی که قلب خود را به بُتها داده است و خود را به گناه کشانده برای مشورت نزد نبی‌ای می‌آید، من به ایشان پاسخ خواهم داد؛ پاسخی که بُتهای بسیار او سزاوارش هستند.

⁵That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

⁵ همهٔ این بُتها، قوم اسرائیل را از من روی‌گردان کرده‌اند، امّا با این پاسخ، می‌خواهم ایشان را به سوی خود بازگردانم.

⁶Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

⁶ «پس به قوم اسرائیل بگو که خداوند متعال می‌فرماید: توبه کنید، از بت‌پرستی دست بکشید و از گناه و کارهای زشت روی برگردانید.

⁷For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:

⁷ «زیرا هرکس چه از قوم اسرائیل و چه بیگانگانی که در اسرائیل ساکن هستند و از من جدا شده‌اند و بُتها را به قلبهای خود راه داده‌اند و گناهان خود را چون مانعی در برابر خود قرار داده‌اند و هنوز نزد نبی‌ می‌روند تا از من راهنمایی بخواهند، من، خداوند پاسخ ایشان را خواهم داد.

⁸And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

⁸ من علیه این اشخاص خواهم بود، ایشان را نمونه و زبانزد همه می‌کنم و از میان قوم خود برمی‌دارم و خواهید دانست که من خداوند هستم.

⁹And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

⁹ «اگر نبی‌ای فریب بخورد و سخن دروغ بگوید، به این خاطر است که من، خداوند آن نبی را فریب داده‌ام و دست خود را علیه او برمی‌افرازم و او را از میان قوم اسرائیل بیرون خواهم راند.

¹⁰And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;

¹⁰ نبی و کسی‌که با او مشورت می‌کند، هر دو یک مجازات خواهند داشت،

¹¹That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.

¹¹ تا قوم اسرائیل دیگر از من دور نگردند و با گناهان خود آلوده نگردند. ایشان قوم من خواهند شد و من خدای ایشان.»

¹²The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,

¹² آنگاه خداوند به من فرمود:

¹³Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

¹³ «ای انسان فانی، هنگامی‌که سرزمینی بی‌وفا علیه من گناه ورزد و من دست خود را علیه آن بلند کنم و نان ایشان را قطع نمایم، چنان قحطی خواهم فرستاد که انسان و حیوان را یکسان از پای درآورد.

¹⁴Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

¹⁴ حتّی اگر نوح، دانیال و ایّوب در آنجا زندگی می‌کردند، نیکوکاری ایشان فقط می‌توانست جانهای خودشان را نجات دهد. من، خداوند متعال چنین می‌گویم.

¹⁵If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

¹⁵ «یا اگر حیوانات وحشی را بفرستم که آن سرزمین را پایمال و ویران کنند و مردم از ترس حیوانات وحشی از آن عبور نکنند،

¹⁶Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

¹⁶ و اگر آن سه مرد هم در آنجا زندگی می‌کردند، من، خداوند متعال به حیات خود قسم می‌خورم که ایشان نمی‌توانستند، حتّی جانهای فرزندان خود را هم حفظ کنند. تنها ایشان زنده می‌ماندند و آن سرزمین غیر مسکونی می‌گردد.

¹⁷Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

¹⁷ «یا اگر شمشیر را در آن کشور بفرستم تا آنجا را از انسان و حیوان پاک سازد،

¹⁸Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

¹⁸ هرچند آن سه مرد در آنجا باشند، من، خداوند متعال به حیات خود قسم می‌خورم که آنها قادر نخواهند بود حتّی فرزندان خود را هم از مرگ نجات بدهند. آنها می‌توانستند فقط جانهای خود را حفظ کنند.

¹⁹Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

¹⁹ «یا اگر آن سرزمین را دچار طاعون کنم و با خونریزی و کشتن مردم و حیوانات آن خشم خود را بر آن فرو ریزم،

²⁰Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

²⁰ حتّی اگر نوح، دانیال و ایّوب در آنجا بودند، من، خداوند متعال به حیات خود سوگند می‌خورم، نمی‌توانستند جان فرزندان خود را نجات دهند و رستگاری ایشان فقط جانهای خودشان را نجات می‌داد.»

²¹For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

²¹ خداوند متعال چنین می‌فرماید: «من بدترین مجازاتها را یعنی جنگ، گرسنگی، حیوانات وحشی و بیماری را به اورشلیم می‌فرستم تا انسانها و حیوانات آن را یکسان نابود سازند.

²²Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

²² اگر بعضی از آنها زنده بمانند و فرزندان خود را نجات دهند، به ایشان نگاه کنید و خواهید دید که چه پلید هستند و قانع خواهید شد مجازاتی که بر اورشلیم آوردم عادلانه بوده است. هنگامی‌که رفتار و روشهای ایشان را ببینید، خواهید دانست آنچه انجام داده‌ام بی‌سبب نبوده است.»

²³And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.

²³ هنگامی‌که رفتار و روشهای ایشان را ببینید، خواهید دانست آنچه انجام داده‌ام بی‌سبب نبوده است.»
